    Had these installed in my baritone ESP 7. It really is like a unicorn for guitar pickups: it just works. Whereas I'd have little personal gripes or preferences when trying pickups, thoughts like "I wish this had a tad more output" or "that's a little boomy" or "that mid spike is a little unpleasant", the M7 is just pure "plug and play". I love this thing.

  • @GordOlson

    Yup. M's are insane. I've been pushing these things on people for years haha. Actually, Black Heaven's are amazing too. They sound pretty much the same as the M, but they are a little more forgiving, less percussive, and just a bit easier to play on.
    Actually every Lundgren pickup I've tried is basically the best pickup I've ever tried lol. I have M's, Black Heaven's, The One, and BJFE (single coil) sets, and they all rule!
    Nice job on the video!

      Hey, so im really torn which one to get: what to do you mean by they being more forgiving? In what sense? Im not sure if I should get the m6 or black heaven. Im gonna put em in a guitar that I only use for metal: metalcore, thrash, hardcore punk.
      Im looking for clarity, aggro distortion etc.
      Im aware your comment is 8 months old, I hope this reply finds you :)

    • @GordOlson
      @GordOlson Год назад +1

      @@armorgiraffe I mean that the M series is very dry and very revealing, and if you play badly, it will sound more obvious lol. In one way that's great because it kind of forces you to be a better player, but on the other hand it feels a bit more difficult to play through them. The Black Heaven set still has the great tone, but doesn't feel that way as much, not as dry, and not as brutally honest as the M haha. It's kind of a hard thing to describe tbh, hopefully you can understand what I mean. Personally, I love them both, but my preference goes to the Black Heavens, just by a little bit! Both have a ton of clarity and great, tight distortion.

    I would suggest checking out Tosin Abasi's Dimarzio signature pickup the ionizer 7-string pickup. It's honestly got the best 'chug' for all the passive pickups I have tried.

    Good day to whoever is reading this. I come seeking guidance. I can’t decide between the M7s and the Black Heaven set. The guitar I’m planning on putting these in is a Schecter Reaper 7 - swamp ash body set in maple neck and an ebony fingerboard. I love how heavy and tight the M7 sounds and I’m looking for that low midrange grunt but I feel like the Black Heavens would be more suitable for the occasional cleans. I read somewhere that the highs on the Black Heavens would be too much for a swamp ash guitar.
    Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    The best of health to you and your loved ones.

    • @MetalHeadProductions
      @MetalHeadProductions  11 месяцев назад +2

      The woods on your electric do not matter and will not affect your tone. Guitar pickups work through electromagnetic induction and wood is not magnetic.
      Now, the m7 is actually the midrange heavy pickup, and the black heaven is the really tight and aggressive pickup. Personally I lean more towards the m7.

    Hi just wondering what is your opinion on m7 set comparing with Nazgûl and sentient set?

    • @MetalHeadProductions
      @MetalHeadProductions  7 месяцев назад

      Both are great, although I've not owned a full m7 set, just the bridge pickup so I can't say on the neck, but I'm sure it's great. The m7 is hard to explain, it's definitely one of the more unique pickups I've ever used. Lots of midrange, clear and smooth top end, and it just feels both very good to play and feels different from a lot of pickups. As a big fan of the nazgul, I'd go m7 over it.

      I have them in drop A going directly into an amp. Wouldn't exactly call this tone tubby, but it's not super tight either. For that, you'll need a boost, which is true of just about any passive pickup tuned this low.

    My understanding of pickups is that it’s just really a placebo effect. There’s only so many Magnets and wire combinations you can do. It’s just wire wrapped around a magnet. But hey I can be wrong. I’m still a fan of Dimarzio Hot rails.

      No really. Now, the biggest tone factors are the amp and speakers, for sure, however, how the guitar hits your effects and amps, how it saturates, how it feels to play, all make a difference for sure.

    I wouldn't necessarily call M-series pickups "high-output". Lundgren calls them that, but English isn't exactly their first language, and even it if was, is it wise to trust anyone's marketing department? They're purposeful, but have lower output than something like a Duncan Full Shred, which itself is only considered "medium-output".
    This is for a good reason. The higher your output, the more high end detail, punch and focus you lose. Mediums and lows tend to be a whole lot more articulate. More windings = more capacitance. More capacitance = more mud. What makes these pickups special isn't their output. It's their tight and focused response. They lack versatility, but they do what they do very well.

    • @MetalHeadProductions
      @MetalHeadProductions  3 месяца назад

      So couple of things, they are decently hot. I think you might be looking at resistance which doesn't always correspond to output. They're decently hot. Not screaming hot, but decently hot.
      The hotter a passive pickup, the more winds of copper and the stronger the magnet, which actually means you're losing high end and getting more midrange and low-end. This is in a sweet spot of lots of midrange, with enough top end to be clear but not so much that it gets harsh. You'll find lower output and things like PAF style pickups are a lot brighter and have less low-end than higher output pickups.

    • @MFKR696
      @MFKR696 3 месяца назад
