$13.4 million in my opinion is not an overpay for Kwity. Like Derek stated, guys like DeMarcus Lawrence and Josh Sweat are making around that much and Kwity not only had more sacks than borh of them, he's a better run defender than both of them as well. He's also younger than though guys.
The Colts do not need Kwity to be a 12-15 sack a season guy. That's what they drafted Latu for. This is who Kwity is guys. He's a great run defender that'll give you 8-9 sacks a season, maybe even 10 sacks a season. Latu is going to be our 12-15 sack a season DE. Latu is going to make an impact this season because he's already a finished product!

It's essentially a one-year extension, Paye is a good player and there is still room for improvement. It's not a bad gamble, especially given how respected Paye is in the locker room.

Thank you for keeping this short and sweet. You're the man! Most guys would have turned this into a 20 minute slog. Great reporting!

I was maybe the biggest critic of the Paye draft pick. I actually nailed it. I said "No.21 is high for a guy run stopper that will max out around 8 sacks". I wanted Darrishaw at the time. But now I find myself defending him. Guys he's a pretty good player, while still getting better too. It would be silly to not pick up the option after his best season. We finally have a good pass rush. 4 solid DEs, 1 stud DT, and 1 damn good DT. If you guys don't think that in itself will help the pass defense greatly than I'd question your football IQ. Even if the other 2 guys beat him out he's an excellent teammate and rotation piece...likely becomes the best backup DE in the NFL & if not right there

For the record I wanted Darrishaw too, I like Paye but 13 mill is ridiculous

@@damonr4136 I wouldn't say it is ridiculous but it is too high. But with context...it's just the 5th year of his contract. Now if we signed him to a 3-5yr deal averaging 13mil I'd definitely agree it's ridiculous. He would likely get 10+ mil on the open market. Again, I've probably been his biggest critic. But he's coming off his best season, is still a great athlete, stud run stopper, and with Latu it should help Paye continue to grow his game. I think he can be a near perfect 2nd DE if Latu becomes what we all think he can be. He is an asset to the team. No reason not to pick up the option when we wont spend that money elsewhere anyway. Time will tell though. He's going to have to go out there and prove it. I just think now is the worst time to give up on him. We can afford to keep him bc any FA better than him won't sign with us anyway (Hunter this yr we offered more than he accepted from his new team & Hendrickson 2yrs ago)

@@damonr4136 just to play fantasy land...I really thought Darrishaw could've been our LT/RT for 10yrs. Which would give us one of....pro-bowl bookends at LT/RT, allow Smith to become a top 5 RG or move Smiths contract for picks.

@@chrisjolly4880 I don't understand why we wouldn't just offer him an extension instead 3 yr 26 million that's like 8.5 mill a yr much more like what he should be making especially here where he's now the 3rd DE

I don't understand this at all, 13+ million for Paye, I like Paye he's a great run defender but average at pass rush, I'd keep him but not like this, don't pickup the 5th yr option and try and extend him for 2 or 3 yrs at about 8 million a yr. He's not getting more than that somewhere else
