thank you for this detailed video and blog. I just wanted to know that is compatible with carbon frame? I know this attachment will engage with thru-axl but I cant be sure that compability and carbon endurance.
I recently bought a new Specialized Fuse comp with a 12mm thru axle and I have a schwinn trailer with the newer adapter but I can't figure out how to fit the adapter on the bike. I'm assuming it just goes on the outside of my frame(swing arm) and inside the head of my axle but the problem is my axle head fits flush inside the swing arm and there is no room to fit the adapter in there. I'm assuming I need to get a replacement thru axle adapter to have extra space on the end for the trailer receiver? Thanks so much for putting this guide together. I'm sure it has helped many people.
Very helpful video. Bought a bike trailer based on your videos. The thru-axle of my bike fit into the hitch of my trailer; however, now the thru-axle does not go all the way in as before due to the added space of the hitch. Should I still buy the thru-axle from Burley (got a Minnow trailer)?
Hey Juan, thanks for checking in. That's a good point, there's a chance in some cases (especially with Burley) that the thru-axle just doesn't go all the way through. In that case, using an adapter will be helpful because it comes out a bit. You can find all the adapter info here: www.biketrailerplanet.com/bike-trailer-thru-axle-adapter-guide/
This has been super helpful! My husband was envious of your jacket :-) , lol. I am in a panic as I have a Breezer Doppler, and have just bought a Burley D'lite X to bring our daughter to school on Monday....I can't work out the thread count and am unsure which adapter to get. Any help would really be appreciated! TIA
Haha, I love the jacket too! Thank your husband for the complement for me :) I'd recommend checking out this guide I made: www.biketrailerplanet.com/bike-trailer-thru-axle-adapter-guide/ Basically, in your case you should go to this link and enter your bike brand and it'll give you what thread count adapter you should buy. Don't worry, you'll get the right one. If you don't, then just return it!
Hey, my experience with Allen trailers is that they are cheap but not good quality. The cheapest Allen is around $100, but the frame materials and cover are very flimsy. I would go for the Burley Bee for a trailer-only or the Schwinn Joyrider for a stroller convertible. The difference is night and day when compared to an Allen.
No, the Allen by trailer will not work with a burly hitch because it is a completely different attachment system. The Allen trailer is more like a Schwinn or InStep hitch, but still different. Here's a picture of the attachment if it helps. allen.bike/products/kids-trailer-bike-hitch
Thanks for your content. I just bought a Thule xt. Just to realise it doesn’t fit the axel of my decathlon elope electrical bike. I have seen your content before just none of the axel couplet content 😝.
I hve a schwinn Joyrider and canyon grial with through axle, it fits through the hole but I cant tighten the through axle as rotating it makes the through axle quick release handle touch the long part of the coupler which attaches to the trailer? How are you supposed to do it???
Dude this is super helpful. I am looking to buy a new bike and would love to hear your thoughts on pulling a trailer with a carbon bike. I am concerned that the carbon frame would be designed for that kind of stress and therefore cause it to fail. What are your thoughts?
Hey Tommy, glad to hear from you. I actually do pull with a carbon bike and have even asked Burley directly about this. They said they have never had any reports of bike trailers damaging carbon frames. I also have not had any issues myself. Carbon is a lot stronger than is perceived. So go for it :)
I used to pull a Burley dlite (loaded with 2 kids) with a Cervelo S2... No bother at all, although of course it made the bike handle like an absolute dog so would recommend a less skittish bike than a full on racer...
Hi Howard, here's a helpful guide specifically about e-bikes and bike trailers: www.biketrailerplanet.com/can-ebike-pull-bike-trailer/ The bottom line is that it is possible, but you will most likely have to deal with disc brakes, which is not an issue if you get the right adapter. There are a few drawbacks to using e-bikes with bike trailers, which I outlined in that article. Regarding brands, for most people the best bang-for-buck trailer in my experience is the Schwinn Joyrider, which you can find my review here: www.biketrailerplanet.com/best-double-bike-trailer-stroller-schwinn-joyrider-review/
I have a 2021 Trek Domane +HP and pull a Schwinn Rascal and Schwinn Kid trailers. Your list says no adapter is necessary. That is not true. Although the coupler will fit the 12mm thru-axle that comes with the bike, there is not enough clearance for the coupler to fit correctly without cracking the carbon frame. Apparently Robert Axle Project is the only one who makes a thru-axle that will work on this bike.

Hope you're channel blows up big brother. Love the content, keep up the good work.
I’m only a min in and I’m already thankful for you and the video!!
Eh! You're welcome.

Yes. If you watch the video you can get it what you need. You need to buy Thule true-axle attachment.
Hey
Great channel 👏
Do you know if there is a thru-axle Thule adapter for a Trek Farley 5 fatbike 197mm - 12mm?
I can't seem to find one 😮
Thanks

Thanks for the great video! Any advice on Allen Sports trailers?

Thanks! But what about hitch connection though? Do their trailers work with, for example, Burley hitch connectors?
No, the Allen by trailer will not work with a burly hitch because it is a completely different attachment system. The Allen trailer is more like a Schwinn or InStep hitch, but still different. Here's a picture of the attachment if it helps. allen.bike/products/kids-trailer-bike-hitch

What's to stop some one from drilling out the hole to 12mm?

3:15 Wouldn't that reduce the number of engaged threads on the thru axle? Is this advisable?
Can i. Use a trailer on a electric bike. And what name brand.

Excellent video.....thanks for the share...
Thanks for watching!
I have a step through Cannondale. My through axle is too small
Saw the Castelli and slammed stem, and immediately thought: "i trust this guy" lol
Haha, nice man. Roadie over here!
