    @K2: This is a senseful help, thanx!!
    @Benzknees First: Most skis have holes or gadgets in the tip for fixing skins. Most K2, have, Völkl, Dynastar, some BD's, many have. Secondary: Maybe you're right with counting your fingers of rescue situations, but it can be helpful, to know how to help yourself. At least it could be helpful for YOU one day?!?! This vid is an informative help for self-help.
    @kadmow: Ok, guy, you can try to wait for a ski patrol in the Outer Cariboos in the middle of nowhere! Wait there! Before mankind, a baer will find you, but next late spring your family has to guess, to whom your bones belong!
    @Hattrup: Well done!

    Zip ties and and duct tape may make this technique more accessible to those not so good with rope.

    I was expecting a hat of some sort to miraculously build a sled.

    @solobackpacking if it's a snowboarder, you know he's getting left behind. For a skier... depends.

    So I suppose the snowboarding equivalent is to sit between your bindings and sled down with your feet hanging over the sides?

      (edit) Likely, nearly no one who skis resort styles. On or off piste within the patrolled area, won't bother, just wait for a ski patrol to roll by.
      However it is good to know what those holes in an avalanche shovel are used for (without worrying about damaging an "expensive" set of skis).
      PS. there are other systems whereby a hole in the tops and tails isn't necessary.

      kadmow I've skied off piste for years, and have never felt the need to drill holes in my skis! Nor has anyone else I've skied with, including mountain guides. I'm willing to bet the number of people who've had to build a sled with their skis, in the last 10 years, can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

    Would it not be easier to leave him behind?

    With all due respect, this vid should be taken down. 1. Half the people we guide are on snowboards 2. Victim would have to have pre drilled holes 3. Cravase? Rescue, gear would likely be GONE 4. Pack a roll up sled 5. Cell phones 6. Ubiquitous amount of A stars flying around. 7. There are a gazillion AMGA, EMT etc....Backcountry EXTREME experts out there these days. YEW!
