The fuse panel is an excellent spot to connect as well! However connecting to the battery is just as good as an option. The instructions say to connect to the battery. Neither spot is better than the other so we recommend connecting to whichever is easier.

imo, every electrical installation should go trough fuse panel, not directly to battery

Don't cut the rubber grommet,poke a hole in it. And the in trunk it's low voltage.
