I’m 51 years old I heard this band a few years ago and I also saw them at altogether now festival Co Waterford and I introduced them to my now 19 old son he absolutely loves them and thy are a big influence in his own music career now I have always told him music should also be a message
Well said, I agree music should just be more than a romantic boy chase girl / vice versa story telling. Through music, you should convey a message, your ideology and Philosophy on how you perceive life, for example
I'm 48 and this is the first band in my adult life to give me the same feeling I had as a teenager discovering new music. I will forever be grateful to Grian and co. for this.
This is like The Sun newspaper or rag. You can see Grian's well versed, being himself & smiling all of a sudden there's something wrong 😂😂😂 great tune dont know about the new look but whatever floats your boat, nice touch with the family 🎵🇮🇪🎵
To be honest I don’t think this interview was as bad as everyone is saying, yeah it was slightly awkward but I think overall groan got to put his points across
English witt and Irish witt are completely different, especially Dublin witt... Inner city dubs are the most honest, funny and genuine people you could ever meet.... and im a meath man/ culchie!
From across the pond, here, so I have no point of reference for Jools' performance, but it didn't seem more awkward than any other senior person trying to talk to someone 50 years younger than themselves 😜 Grian's rather quick though with calling his dad out for more football cards 😂😂😂
Bit of historical trivia for the uninitiated - Grian's accent in Ireland is known as a 'Pale' accent. It comes from the days when the British colonised the area around Dublin. A lot of Dublin natives still speak with an English twang on some words - here, you can hear it when he says the word 'record'.
@@bigbrainmcflurry2425I feel like people say this to jump on the cool bandwagon now. Old U2 had some absolute bangers with great lyrics. Like all great bands they've had their day but they have some classics. Each to their own. It's all art
Most Irish people don't like U2 check out Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan & Mick Flannery 3 great artists that come to mind, also Whipping Boy the album Heartworm is a treasure 🎵🇮🇪🎶
I don't know this Jools person but he seems a bit fuddy-duddy. 😅 I'm Gen X and I thought the responses from Grian were charming, funny, and thoughtful. Hello from California! 😎🌴
i can't believe jools still has a job. decades of cringe interviews. still an employee of the BBC. unbelievable - so many people would love to have his job and would do it so much better.
Seems like they fired the stylists 😂 In all serious though I'd be interested to know if there's anything more to the new aesthetic for the band other than perhaps taking the piss out of the indie rock, cool look.
Grian makes the interview difficult by being a bit disrespectful in his manner. Take your hand away from your mouth when you speak and stop smirking and looking away when asked a question. If he doesn't want to be interviewed he should just stick to the music which is great tbf.
Its common trendy moody teenager music, attached to it a sense of superiority of an ncad kiddie who thinks he knows too much. Its good like, but not as good as its made out.
He's just answering questions. Either the way, the guy (and FDC generally) are superb, and a cut above most other brands/artists from the last 5 years.
@@Endlesssummer1average at best? Ludicrous/unfair statement. 3 solid albums, soon to be 4. All different styles. Not afraid to evolve. They should get way more recognition than they currently do but I can see this year being big for them. Headlining the park stage at Glastonbury and a big arena tour to see the year off.
Woeful, typical of this band to wash over the plights of actual Dublin musicians and just say he looks good ~ all genuine Irish musicians from Dublin hate these lot and this is why
Grian just answered Jools questions on how he sees the world, nothing wrong with that, great band, one of our modern-day poets in the making❤ 🇮🇪

This interview made me watch Black Books again!
His a poet in conversation
No, he is embarrassed and cant string it together. Signs of something up.
@@MimiYouyuthere’s nothing up. He’s been like this since the beginning 😂 he’s an awkward guy

He’s such a poet it’s actually funny 😂.
It was a petfect interview
Grian I love him...😍
If people think this was a bad interview they’re just not used to listening to a intelligent, creative person talk. Nothing wrong with it.
Watching him try to be witty was exhausting
Beautiful man!
"people just keep on gunning" to "rhyme running running running"

This guy's a trip.
Jools swings the keys off the board, but Jayzuz, as an interviewer - pure class to Grian for stickin through.
Its like a scene from Peep Show. Perfect.
An Irish poet

Grian a strange mix of profound and silly.
Grian flexing his look and his countrymen in smoothest way possible, hahaha
“A snow globe? Like one that you shake?” poor interview from Jools. Watch grian’s interview with John Kelly, much more insightful and honest
Compliments was a good answer 🤙😇🫒

Hence ‘beyond the Pale’
It also might be because one his parents is English
❤
Saw them playing in Connolly s of Leap ,West Cork 2018 to crowd of 100-150 . Knew then they were going places, the spark was there and lit.
One day Jools..... One day 🫒😇
The snowglobe part is probably a reference to radio free alice
FDC is the greatest music to come out of Ireland since U2.

Bizarre interview. Maybe jools was thrown off by Grian's outfit.
Seems like they fired the stylists 😂 In all serious though I'd be interested to know if there's anything more to the new aesthetic for the band other than perhaps taking the piss out of the indie rock, cool look.
Sometimes people just like to dress the way they do idk if you ever had a style that wasn't just a shirt and jeans babes?
Talk about DC Fontaine.
Knee Cap.
Merely Streek.
The Scratch.
Tv Series like Bodkin & Kin some interesting thing happening in Ireland at the moment.
You’re missing Static Vision from Limerick. Best upcoming band.
Dead atmosphere, they don't gel together at all
Peculiar hearing the audience laugh in that setting though.
Jools has been interviewing musicians for 40 years and is still absolutely awful at it.
I like Fontaines DC but can anyone explain their sudden change of style?
Grian comes off as a bit too cool for school I think
Jools is such an awkward freak here 😵💫 Grian way too quick and charming
What a gas man
Grian is a funny man tbf

I guess he does, yet to meet a talent that's not a bit aloud,,
I love Jools Holland but he was poor here. Grians putting a great deal of thought and wit into his answers and isnt getting much back
Nah he’s doing alright… I don’t understand the hate or anything from this interview.
So weak from Jools in places
there's only one jools holland , doing it 30 years and counting. you sound like one of those coward keyboard warriors
What the fuck man? Chill 😂
From an American perspective I didn’t see Jools come off as disrespectful or awkward, he just tried to be witty.
thought this was a neat interview, just different senses of humour between the two
he's so hot
Not even an awkward interview in my opinion. Jools seems a little out of touch but the vibe was decent.
Nothing wrong with this interview? I enjoyed it.
Awkies
Trying to recreate the noel interview a little
The 90s alt girl punk band look. Excellent band though
Disappointingly generic convo, and the hairpins, ctfo dude
Born in Barrow in Furness 👍🍺
Odd interview, mind you Chatten is clearly an awkward customer.
Jools has problems with certain personalities, check out his interactions with morrissey
If he has problems with brexit narcissist Morrissey then I assume he must be a good guy after all.

It's not even good music and the NCAD cool kid vibe is being rewarded, feeding in to their narcissism.
2hair clips really plummeted this band in my standing.. idk.. just being honest.. corny.
The band seems like they are super into themselves and without good reason.
Jools has never been a great interviewer. Have watched this since the 90s and these chats are often the weakest parts of the show.
Holland has always been a terrible interviewer.
Awkward interview 😂
what a prat. hairclips, makeup, skirt are not the worst of it. it's his smug smarmy attitude. just rude.
Awkward, Grian comes across as somebody who believes their own hype a little too much.
As he should, no?
