Area diesel service saving RUclipsrs bacon all over the internet. Love to see you taking the time to clean and paint. It’s going to be a great rebuild.
Area diesel does more than just pumps. They go out of their way to find parts no one else can find for other parts of engines and transmissions. Remarkable work your doing
YT recommended the Area Diesel injection pump rebuild before this latest video was up. It’s well worth the watch. Now I know two things: 1/ Area Diesel does high quality work 2/ don’t bother with a diesel injection pump rebuild at home. There a ton of specialized knowledge and tooling, and obviously way more complicated than a hydraulic pump or gas fuel pump rebuild (so don’t fool yourself into thinking this will be like “other pumps” you’ve rebuilt).
Area Diesel Service have done the best marketing a business can do as far as I’m concerned. Helping all the major RUclipsrs while recording their repairs and giving video tours. Even see some of the guys rocking their merch years later. I’ll think of them first if I ever need a pump rebuilt.
I like how u stick to a project, work through it. And ur actually reading a manufacturer specs. I love that attention to detail. Thanks for the great content. Can’t wait for next one, will be waiting
Shout out to the Uncle Tony reference. That dude is an absolute GOAT of the performance car realm. Side note, thanks again for all the effort you put into these videos, oddly satisfying to watch your struggles with this old junk.
As far as i’m concerned Matt, don’t worry about trying to entertain us, your videos are just what I want to watch and follow. I also like your modesty and that you don’t edit out the mistakes. An added bonus is, my German Shepherd is a body and behaviour double of yours. 🇬🇧
I've watched many ADS vids they've done in collaboration with other channels. I really respect how deeply skilled they are at their craft, and I'm glad you got connected to them, Matt, as that kind of quality service is hard to find.
Area Diesel lads are serious pros for sure. First saw them tear apart a lift pump for Watch Wes Work and this old timer of a forklift that may have been from the Korean war era or something... Wes has a serious bit of engineering knowledge stacked up to his credit and he was like "Holy Cow guys... Wow!" lol Worth going back and looking over those forklift vids again soon for me [they were what hooked me on Wes's paage after all a few years ago].
Your way of building that motor is mint . Mistakes are made when rushed and your make n sure the all is in spec !!! Cant wait to see you put it all back together!! An work with it
Default colour for Isuzu is a mid grey for those who are triggered by those things. Also a trick for brushing out holes. If you find the brush is too tight DON'T just pull it out twist it before you pull. As for the time taken to do the job. It is always "Take as long as you need to do the job properly and not one second longer"
I did the torch method on our cast hydraulic governor cases before painting and it made a huge difference in the adhesion of the paint. Amazing how much moisture is in the pores of the metal.
Always look forward to your videos! I do watch ADS’s video of the there rebuild a couple weeks ago. Those guys know there stuff! I’ve seen them rebuild a couple 2 or 3 from other changes I watch. Seems like you can’t go wrong sending them your stuff.
28:53 I agree it is NOT critical! :) ... BUT custom fitting the piston rings like that (I always do) Is something YOU can do that shop will not probably waste time on ... :) Just imagine when your in your 70's and go to use the excavator .. and have confidence the engine will be fine for another year ... as and you did everything the best way!! :)
This is by far my favorite channel on YT! Having a hard time waiting for the next one, but it´s definately worth the wait!!! (yep, 3 exclamation marks there) 😊
You were very very wise to clean those passages and galleries. Judging by the goo in there, you would have wiped a bearing in very short order. Way to go.
Area diesel service, saw the video and gave them kudos.t. Love to see you taking the time to clean and paint. It’s going to be a great rebuild. 51:27 you've just teed off a bunch of Chrysler freaks. Oh well, Se la vie.
Hi Matt, thanks for this engine rebuild update. Remarkable video with narration and explanation of each step along the way. Your meticulous adherence to “spec” tolerances and attention to detail is admirable. Looking forward to completion and the “test-run” on the engine stand. Keep up the great work!
Matt, with all the TLC you’ve given this build it’s going to be better than new, FYI on this side of the world no rain for 3 months temperature above 38 Celsius days 24 nights thanks for the video ,all the best from Perth🇦🇺
I'm not sure why it always seems that fuel injection shops always return components all disassembled when customers refuse to pay for their outrageous quotes..as if to say "figure out your self".. area diesel is the way to go.
Fun facts about piston and bore sizing. On the block headface you can see some letters stamped. These are the original bore size and the pistons were selected to fit this size. A is the smallest size B is nominal and C is the largest in the standard size range. Some makers will go to D and E if they are having trouble holding tolerance for some reason. When the rings are fitted they are all the same size regardless of bore size. Some makers will also grade the wrist pin size in the piston to allow for machining tolerances too. The plugs in the oil galleries are often a tapered thread and a loctite coating is applied at fitment. When checking the crank runout you should fit the caps and snug them down because the bore is not truly round until the caps are torqued. Cheers Eric
Matt your attention to cleanliness and detail is awesome and the fact that if you are in doubt you don’t hesitate to replace with new parts will be a real winner in the long run. I know you profess to be a hillbilly mechanic but I love your methodical process and oratory as you go, all makes for an awesome viewing experience for us. Big shout out to Area Diesel Services for another great job
Just to let you know this is really a privilege to watch you do the engine rebuild and all the other components that you've done rebuilds and servicing to it has been a really cool time to watch and learn as you of course have learned to make this stuff happen!! All the best from Surrey BC Canada
Important! When installing the piston rings onto the new pistons, use a quality piston ring spreading tool. Do NOT try to wind them in (spiral install them). You will ruin the rings. I’ve enjoyed all your videos. Keep going strong. YAY for you!!! I also enjoyed Bay Area Diesel video rebuilding your injection pump. Thanks for showing us all your hard work and ingenuity. Rob
Quit being so hard on yourself! You are doing a fantastic job, the cleaning outside was pretty much the proof that you have gone over the edge 😂. Appreciate the warped sense of humor, the little cracks made me snicker on a couple of occasions. You are doing what everyone Should, but some cut corners, and we all know how that comes back and bites you in the sit down! As far as leaks go…. Ain’t going to happen. Positive thoughts here, patience and double checking does wonders for the outcome. You can’t forget something that awesome. Back to a climb to 1200 feet, then chop the throttle to idle into an outorotation. Top of the green arc at 60 knots at idle. Perfect! Man, I bet area diesels business is uh boomin. There are several RUclipsrs that use them. Great video man, can wait to see this thing all put back together.
Matt, I love this series, I'm learning a lot. Between you and C&C Equipment and the other RUclipsrs, I'll be a pro in no time. Great work! You can film whatever you want I will watch it.
Area Diesel is awesome about precision and preparing the job for a oem or better than oem apon completion. Every company around me uses them for all diesel inspections and turbo work. Plus sealing the cast iron parts not only stopping rusted but all metal is porase and will seap so painting it is also a sealer. Great job on your project, can't wait to see the next video.

You are do'in just fine young man. I would not have had the patience to video my MG rebuild, that one took 4 years of working on it every day after work.
Been watching since the start of the d4u. I like heavy equipment and building engines and diesels. I want to buy a piece of equipment but you have me thinking finding a worn out ish one and rebuilding it. Thanks for taking the time to do this and posting it. I changed my name to what it is because my son called me that after seeing your channel name. Thought it would be funny. Almost had him convinced its always been that.
Matt, hi from Australia. That nibbler looks cool but you need a plasma cutter man. Where I work has one, they're a hoot, making cutting shapes easy peasy. I love your videos, keep up the good work.
Don’t know if you already are prepared for this but the rear main seal needs a special tool to install. I am currently doing the same project as you but with a Deere 135c (all Hitachi built). Mine has an Isuzu 4bg1t and I believe it takes the same seal as yours. (The lip is on the back of the seal) The seal tool pushes the seal and sleeve on at the same time to a specific depth and keeps the proper pressure on the seal lip to engage the sleeve. I’m cheap and have a lathe and machined the tool as it costs between $200-$600 depending on manufacturer. Also I ordered a entire engine gasket kit and the rear main included was wrong and I ordered the correct seal from Fridays parts.
Can you send me an email with more info? The place I ordered from said that the wear ring was included in the seal, but the seal just looks like a normal double-lipped seal that is too tight to fit over the wear ring currently on the crank. I was trying to find more info on it... pacific.northwest.hillbilly@gmail.com
@@PacificNorthwestHillbilly I’ll send you something tomorrow. Thanks for the videos it’s encouraging to see someone do the same project as I’m doing. My machine was a mess although I’m not rebuilding the motor as it runs great and didn’t have the water contamination yours did. No screaming from me. I enjoy your demeanor and approach to building. Keep on keeping on. It appears that once you accomplish your task, a quality product comes from it.
Brother keep doing what you're doing. You are learning and so am I. It's your engine, do things the way you see as best. Love watching your videos, been watching since the bulldozer build. Great to see these complete tear downs. Rather than just part of the machine getting fixed.❤

Checked out Area Diesel's build video , seeing the work they put into just calibrating and tuning , it's clearly one job requiring very specific expertise, which luckily they had in abundance. So a big shout out to them for their build/rebuild/creation of a pristine pump . Block is looking fantastic, so the injector pump will match nicely. And you're right, given the amount of work you've put in getting to this stage it'd be a shame to cut corners , it'd be like building a lamborghini from scratch , then doing the paint job with a whitewash brush.
I learned something new from this video. Never thought about the brushes and cleaning port holes. I've done one engine rebuild. It was an inframe on a 78 ford f150 pickup. Did this at age 22 with my grandfather who had the tools and showed me how to do it. This process cured me of Ford products. I avoid their vehicles ever since.
Very enjoyable watch, no screaming at the screen from me (mainly cos i've never gone this far into any engine before, cleaning and painting is my limit!)
Awesome area diesel service again saves the day man they go above and beyond looks brand spankers new pretty peeved of that shop didn't rebuild it but I suppose it was better for the ADS teardown
I can't speak for every one else. Personally I'm enjoying your content. You explain your reasons without using all the technical mumbo jumbo. Plus 99% of your video shows exactly what your seeing. That makes a huge difference. I'm also a fan of seeing the opps everyone makes but few share. The two on the oil pan testing were, opps's I would have made. Over all wonderful videos!

You’re doing an awesome job for someone that has very little experience! Keep up the work & keep those videos coming!!
Very enjoyable watch, no screaming at the screen from me (mainly cos i've never gone this far into any engine before, cleaning and painting is my limit!)
The tight brushes reminded me of this
What do Tupperware salesmen and Eskimos have in commom ?
Answer: they both like tight seals ! LOL
Great video, super entertaining. Can’t wait for the next one!
Yeah, it got cold! 6° here in Port Angles too! Wasn't even close to ready for that kind of cold. I can tell your just as cold there.
I think your doing a great job taking your is the best way to do things
Glad I finally saw Charlie.
Very interesting video again. Love the cooperation with Area Diesel. If I would be living in the US I would definately have work for them 🙂
Kurtis...is gonna love you...they love 'bag 'o parts'
I'm a Southern Appalachian hillbilly & I like your vids very much 😊 😂
Awesome area diesel service again saves the day man they go above and beyond looks brand spankers new pretty peeved of that shop didn't rebuild it but I suppose it was better for the ADS teardown
Saw the ADS video they did a bang up job
I can't speak for every one else. Personally I'm enjoying your content. You explain your reasons without using all the technical mumbo jumbo. Plus 99% of your video shows exactly what your seeing. That makes a huge difference. I'm also a fan of seeing the opps everyone makes but few share. The two on the oil pan testing were, opps's I would have made.
Over all wonderful videos!
Another beautiful video - your care and attention to detail are great to see.
