I"ve had a few dangerously aggressive rescue dogs who couldn't be saved. Then, I got my black dog whom I was told was fine with people and other dogs. It was opposite with my guy. He lived in a shelter for three years so a very different environment from coming into a home. As he settled in, I found out quickly he had some great reactive fears. I did want to send him back! And, that was the start of my journey with Recallers. We have built a great connection. We are still working on his fears, and they are slowly dissipating. I love it. Empowering the dog to be in control of their reinforcement. Genau!
The biggest takeaway is "trust the process". Susan you have given us the tools and we just have to continue working through each phase.. Great video!!!
A so appreciate to have episodes about rescues ;) thank you. Definitely thanks to all the "dogs that" podcast I learned to appreciate my dog the way he is, and realized how much more amazing he is than what I could have ever imagined.
I was one of those rescue dog owners who had expectations that didn’t match reality. Very stressful. Being totally in love with the new pup helped. Then I added Home School the Dog and Crate Games. We’re making progress and having fun. Thank you for continuing to share great content!
Love love love listening to videos about rescues and their potential challenges to work through! Really needed to hear about "trusting the process". I definitely have panicked recently and took a step back from HS. Excited to get back into it and this video helped give me the faith that it'll get better on the other side. Thanks susan, can't wait to hear more from these two!
Thank you, you got this, "trust the process" is a great mantra to keep in mind💕. Nadine and Simone are amazing! Please, come back to share how your Home School The Dog games are going!
Thank you! Working with my Riker, rescued 2 years ago with complex trauma, I find myself navigating to the people talking about exactly what was talked about in this - nutrition, fufilling the dogs needs, the power of choices etc.
Interesting discussion! I recently discovered another trainer who I think may have been through some of your programs and she is also in Canada like you are; McCann Dog Training. Seems like I've seen her do some of your games such as Its Yur Choice. That might be another good guest for you to have on one of your podcasts.
