Absolutely gorgeous. I love how they kept the chrome bits, headlight trim rings, wiper arms etc etc. It keeps the car classy and classic. Such a perfect blend of old and new. Just beautiful.
BMW revived the Mini, Fiat revived the 500, VW Revived the Beetle and yet here lies a thing of true beauty. The colour, the shape, the stance are all perfect. Someone should call Volvo and tell them to look back... and forward.
I'm a huge fan of the P1800 and this takes it to a whole new level! I love what they have done with a forgotten beauty!
I’ve lusted over very few cars, This thing is gorgeous.
Restomod? It's all new, Throwback Yes. Do I love it Hell Yes.
Such a cool car! We work just around the block from Polestar HQ here in Gothenburg, and it's always so interesting fantasizing whats happening inside! There are a coule of high mounter windows in to the all white garage, so you can see when it's lit inside and working!
This was "The Saint" (played by Roger Moore) ride back in the day. Always loved this cars styling.
This throws be back to siting in my grandads P1800. Absolutley stunning car. Wish he never sold it :(
I'll get one for sure. As soon as I hit the lotto.
Nice shifting at the beginning!
Beautiful car I’ve never heard of.
Wow! This car is stunning 😍. The craftsmanship, the details... Incredible car. I'm just interested, why they didn't do it NA, but went to the turbo road. Anyone have an idea?
Just use one that wasn’t assembled by Jensen and that is a true dream car .
Best in 2020!!!
Se- Toy ! So Pure . Man any day preferred over modern super car. Ya need bit of electronic gadgetry.
Love it !!
Gorgeous
P1800 Will always be a Simon Templar car
What a beauty,
i need this in my life :D
Очень красивый автомобиль!
Piece of Art. :-)
Damn that car looks soo much better than current sport cars
@SuTen yeah man. There’s something about that era
Not mine ! F Type coupe
@@rlstrad2059 Idunno ol' boi the cabin on this one "feels" better to me, the f type design does resemble this one in spaces. And this came first. I wish more people would do neo retro designs.
@@shadow_realm47 Agree about the cabin, and the engine's look as well. I do love the design, but I do think too, some of today's car strive for that same purity. Arguably, much tougher in today's regulated industry.
Yes, spot on.
if only manufacturers would return to basics like this
Jealous!
Super cool : )
Misha, should you not be working right now?😝✌🏼
Bet you would love a blast round the ring in this Misha.
So can I take my Volvo S80 V8 to Cyan and tell them here is £30k do some magic?
@@simon8089 We've got Misha's boss over here everyone. Say hi.
Unbelievable! The lines, the fitment, the engineering. I'd take this over most "modern" cars.
@Kim Dőng Umm Pro Interracial Couples whaaaaat? Are you kidding?
Since when manual is a problem? And why would it be?
@Kim Dőng Umm Pro Interracial Couples This is not the car for you for sure. Nothing is more fun than a manual. Autos are for boring people.
@Kim Dőng Umm Pro Interracial Couples Given that's your perspective, this car is firmly confirmed not for you. It's the difference in analog and digital. A book vs an e-reader, paddle vs manual. Manual provides abilities that are incapable with paddle / auto cars. That comes at a cost of effort and needed skill to work magic with manual.
If you don't like driving a manual you might have testosterone issues you should get your T levels tested🤷🏽
"A good old clean engine bay" is the understatement of the year. I think I might have seen three inches of wire in it. The effort poured into this car is nothing short of monumental.
Strange to think that one of the sexiest cars ever built... is a Volvo!
Even better is the station wagon version!
I get where you come from, this is amazing, absolutely takes you by surprise
@@dooleyfussle8634 That would be the ES, I used to know a guy with one. Yes, truly gorgeous car, but for me, I just adore the rear of the coupe, it's the perfect compliment to that beautiful front!
@Jimmy Jones I bet you're fun at parties!
Gorgeous car!
I spotted this car in person last week, absolutely stunning
two best on RUclips IMO, collab needed.
@@dagnut
Oh yes please.
Also collab with Henry Catchpole too, now that would make for a brilliant video, and I can just see the discussion over pints of beer as the sun fades in some old rustic pub to sum up the driven car of the day. Perfect
@@dagnut would make quite the contrast wouldnt it. Do enjoy both channels tbf
Maybe this car could be used if they were planning to do a current version of 'The Saint'! I wonder what the Late Roger Moore would have thought of this car? Looks the business!
Looks stunning but i think they went a bit too heavy on the race car theme underneath
The world needs more cars like this, so much more relevant than today's ridiculous hypercar scene
At $500,000, it is pretty much a hypercar
@@elroyfudbucker6806 hyper price tag anyways

It’s okay. When I catch up with her we don’t talk about you at all.
Mere? *lol*
That is hands down one of the prettiest cars I have ever laid eyes on!
agree
wow , this is by far the best restomod car ive seen , possibly in the league of the work from singer's porsche
There a company near Leeds/Bradford restomodding all Nissans like 240z and old Skylines from 70's. £500k for a build though and i cant remember the name of the company.
@@v4skunk739 mzr roadsport?
singers porsche are so yesterday nice but not on par with this wonderfull creation
@@MrAndyj007 You are delusional. Singer is at the top of custom restomod. There a reason why a Singer costs a million.

This is the most beautiful car i've ever seen.
Roger Moore drove a white one starring as ‘The Saint’..... it kinda made the car a cult amongst a certain demographic.
I had a 63' just like that one, even the same color.
It’s in the museum in Gothenburg.
Right here!!!
ive never seen this car before, like at all. Just jumped into my top 10 most beautiful cars. What an absolute stunner
P1800s are not high in numbers, but were around as early as 1961 for about a decade. Volvo didn't just make bricks.
@@alexveldhuis6004 I was never really into to older European cars besides old Ferrari/Lambos while growing up so I never knew about this one. I looked up the original model and its really nice, this modern touch with the flared fenders and ground effects really dials up the sporty look. Love it.
@@LordDonnington725 more beautiful than the Jaguar E-type even? I sure think so.
@@ForzaMonkey I think so too, its the perfect blend of old school style and modern finesse
@@LordDonnington725 a dude named Irv Gordon bought a P1800 in 1966 and put Guiness Book world record of 3.2 million miles on it! Look up his story.
Beautiful. The colour really pops under the studio lighting. .
They are also the Colors of the Swedish Flag.
Have to be honest, the colour doesn't really "work" for me.
That's what Nixon said to Kubrick about the moon landing
@@chrisostling805 And also the historic racing colors for Swedish cars in international events.
I'm not a Volvo guy but holy shit I want one of these.
This car is gorgeous
This is, hands down, one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen, both considering the original design and this magnificent work!!
As I saw this car and read, "touring car engine" I was hoping for a really high-revving naturally espirated one. The hood opened - YES, no turbo - ......NOOOOO!
Unbeliveably beautiful, though.
I was the same!!!! Why not some Cosworth screamer????
Yeah, should not be a turbocharged engine. With the car being that light, the extra 80 hp wasn’t worth it. Everything else is so perfect.
Yes i concur, the turbo is dissapointing
This was one of my favourite sport cars I can still see Roger Moore making his escape in it in the Tv series the saint. Beautiful!
You didn't mention the TV series of the 60"s " The Saint" with Sir Roger Moore, which made the Volvo P1800 famous... I own a P1800 spec exactly as the latest model used in the series and it is an incredible vintage car...
The first P1800s were built in the UK by Jensen
you lucky bastard !
This looks to me like a cross between a Mustang and a DB.
more like the other way around. didnt he say it was there before ? not sure tho
Yeah, It's because this car came out first, and got famous thanks to the TV series "The Saint", this design has inspired other cars for over 60 years.
No the db and mustang look like it’s children
Thanks a lot for listening to all of us about the lighting situation and a great improvement this time around. The cars look stunning when the huge circle light is out of frame but please do try to keep it out of frame as much as possible when you're talking to the camera. It unfortunately washes out your face and and reflects a little too much.
Maybe a small shroud around it would work so that the majority of the light is focussed on the car? Really amazing production and filming on this one.
Can we talk about the fact that the entire body appears to be a single piece? Incredible engineering and stunning beauty combined. What a car.
the original car was a single piece unibody chassis dipped in zinc coating before painting
WANT! Loved the design ever since seeing the late Sir Roger Moore drive one in The Saint.
Love it, looks like you’re having a great time in this. Greater than the sum of its parts....*but not sure it’s £500,000 worth.
perhaps 300.000 pounds then?.....😎
Worth more I think. Guys like Jay Leno would pay for this im sure...
@@kevintoth5365 lmao Jay leno wouldn't buy this shit in a million years
That is one stunning looking car!!!
This is a legit classy gentleman's car.
8:48 Hollinger are a top tier transmission supplier. They make gearboxes for the Australian domestic V8 Suoercar road racing series, many top rally cars and were also the supplier for the Tomei Skyline sequencial gear box kit for the R32/33/34 GTR
This is one of those timeless designs. My grandfather had a '66 Volvo 122, in sort of a cream-yellow with dark green interior. I still remember the sounds, the smells and the feeling of riding in that car as a young kiddo. Seeing this makes me happy. Respect to Cyan for building such an awesome thing!
I've loved this car for a long time. I'm happy to see someone giving it the respect it deserves.
Words fail me when I try to describe just how beautiful this car is!
No 5 cylinder engine here, almost perfect. Great classic with a modern twist.
@Kim Dőng Umm Pro Interracial Couples Think of a manual gearbox as a means of providing a very tactile interface between man and machine. Driving is so much more than simply going super fast. In fact simply going super fast is but part of the experience, having ulitmate control of engine speed and selection of the right gear ratio while negotiating a twisty road can be argued to be where it is all at. And let's be honest, what road is dead straight and only provides the thrill of going superfast. Oh that's right, the boring ones, mainly found in the US. European roads are mostly full of bends and tight turns and feeling part of the machine via a manual gearbox is what it is all about. Auto transmission is for boring old farts that can't be bothered. They're the ones that buy a sports car with auto. Oh and auto transmissions are nothing modern, they have been around for decades. Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but don't expect it to be the correct and popular one.
Roger Moore is smiling in his heaven.
I guess Pelle Petteson is smiling too.
I am proud to be Swedish🇸🇪
Best country in the world? You cant be serious
@@LJTEAM0723 I am not a Swede, but as a nation it has some very good bits about it. I have travelled the World quite a bit and one thing I have learned is that every national has the 'This is the best country in the World' message drummed into their heads. Be they American, Brit, Portuguese, Italian, German, Dutch, Australian, Venezualan and so on and on. Truth is they all have good bits and bad bits and you would have to search long and hard for a long time to actually ascertain which country is the best in the World. Everyone thinks their nation of origin is and it is what we call bias. Humans are heavily biased easily and the more a nation sells itself to itself, the more bias there is. Or is that Patriotism? Yeah, that's it, patriotism. Pretty meaningless really, but we all fall for it cos it has its uses, especially when your nation wants an identity and armed forces.
This car is actually a striking alternative to the Singer911 and the Eagle E-type. If told to keep one car, this one would be it.
You took the words right out of my mouth!
"why this color ?" Well... maybe because this color is called cyan.. Before being the name of this company ;)
cheers
Possibly also a tie in to the Swedish flag.
That car is stunning! So beautiful.. I imagine the driver's experience being top-notch for any true gearhead! Great review!
😲😲😲 Now THIS is unexpected! It's rare to see Volvo/Polestar/Cyan products getting any air time, especially one as niche as this!
Breathtaking and sublime. So glad these engineers remember as do I what we loved from our childhoods. Great content, as always.
yes many people see Volvo and scream its Swedish, but Jenson Motors in West Bromwich in the West Midlands built a load of the shell's for Volvo's production run of P1800's
I get your point, but that's true for all brands and products. No one has total vertical integration. Volvo is Chinese nowadays anyway. Sure, design an etos is still Swedish.
@@johan.mp4 wasn't much of a done thing in the 1960's was it, small things like carbs or cylinder heads yes but complete shells was quite rare
@@MrDavidfball I don't know, I wasn't around back then 😁 But I know it was quite common to use engines from other manufacturers. I know both Saab and Volvo did. I think some cars were assembled in Finland as well.
@@johan.mp4 i wasn't born either but i'm a massive petrolhead and things like engines could be crated around the world.
but bodyshells are probably the largest part of any car and for them to go from the west midlands to sweden would take days by road & sea.
i even live twenty minutes from where Jenson's were originally made
@@MrDavidfball it doesn't make it more British. Swedish company, owners, employees, designers, engineers and assembled in Sweden. If I'm not mistaken, the P1800 was designed in Italy, but by a Swede though.

I am in LOVE with this car. From the color to everything. James delivers again!!!! Looks so good in the bunker.
Cyan Guercio :)
Such a beautiful car in the first place I remember watching it on 'The Saint' But that one's amazing.
More great work as well by you and the bunker 👍
Oh man, what a car to Grace your astonishing bunker. Loved every second of this, more please. 😁👍🏻
maybe the most beautiful masterpiece of design, engineering and execution I've ever seen!
Words escape me for how breathtaking this car is
To have the classic looks and modern running gear, does it get any better than that, I think not. Love the close up details you show on the cars and such great lighting, gives you a real sense that you are right there with the car. Such an amazing facility you built James, congrats mate.
Crazy crazy loving it , insanely cool, tottally madness, can i just get one 🤣🤣
One of my favorite body styles. I would have this over a e-type
If I see heel and toe in the first 10 seconds of a video, I press like!
The title should be "Made perfect car and engine worse." Why TF would you change an already perfect car? For petes sake, any change on the P1800 is a downgrade. I drive one with no heat and AC, and I wouldn't change it for the restomod if you paid me. Sad.
Looks fantastic, loving the classic car look with modern engineering underneath 👍
The cars of today must be truly insignificant, if continue to build replicas of those of the 1960s
That looks like a project car that I would enjoy looking behind the scenes of.!
I thought nobody could do a restomod better than Singer with their Porsche 911.
This Cyan restomod Volvo P1800 proved me wrong.
Even back in the day Volvo had a better taste than the mustang, if u asked me in the 60s which car I preferred, it would obviously be the Volvo James
A 1965 mustang fastback is just as nice, and I own the 67 1800S. The Volvo p1800 was born 3 years earlier than the mustang.
Like everyone else, this car is beautiful but i cannot justify the price. Hopefully they could mass produce these to bring it down a bit
9:28 interesting car in background 🤔
I thought the same thing. I wonder what that is.
Looks like a BAC MONO.
I'm getting so nostalgic. I remember the decor so p1800. I love the concept
A few years ago I saw one of those in Seattle just rotting away. I never knew it was a Volvo until now
The Italian design firm Carrozzeria Ghia was involved a little in the design of the P1800. Just how much Ghia was involved is an idea that changes with time, but there was certainly a little of Turin mixed into these cars. The engine, drive train and suspension are completely Volvo, but the coach work does have a quiet elegance. The way the C pillar is integrated into the rear deck, which descends between two discrete fins, off-set by a distinctive rising curve of a style line on the door appears on no other Volvo, and few other other cars. Carrozzeria Zagato used that fin profile on a special 356 Porsche in 1957, but it didn't really work. The P1800 was the first to manage these details in a truly pleasing way. This was Volvos one and only flirtation with fins, and it worked. After the P1800 the world moved on.
Lovely car but price way overpriced. You could do something like this for £50k
Aaaaaaa a....... James why must you make these bids and make me lust for something I know I'll never possess?!?
One of the most amazing looking cars I’ve ever seen.
This "thing" blows my mind!! I was always a fan of P1800/P1800 ES...this is a semi-modern upgrade!! Simply love it! Hope to see one here around Vancouver one day!
It's a work of art, looks amazing! Should be a limited run production car of I don't know how many units but it would sell like crazy!
Looks incredible but I would want a naturally aspirated V6 engine in there. It's missing the glorious noise it's looks suggest.
I agree, you want it to sound the way it looks, not like honda civic. Nevertheless I am in love with this
I let you know your review is lacking enthusiasm; if the unit is not Brit you shit on it...
Was it the James Bond DB5 rebuild that inspired this or the other way around?
or neither?
Wow!! This is sooooo beautiful!
It's so cool!
