Skyrim - The TRUE POWER of Peryite - The Aedric Prince? - Elder Scrolls Lore

- After spending many months wandering other worlds... The Daedrologist has returned.
Peryite is far more powerful than he's given credit for. He's a Daedric Prince, but he's also Aedric?

Having left the Fudgemuppet Tribunal, Drew the Daedrologist trudges on, uncovering secrets of other planes. Will the newfound perspective gleaned from other realms lead to a breakthrough in daedra studies?
oh that's where I know this voice
@@consensus688 That's what I was thinking too...
All the better for us. More quality Elder Scrolls content!
Oooohhh, no wonder he sounded familiar af.
I started watching more specifically the Drew videos like 4 years ago and honestly they still hold up like this if nothing more then relaxing and informed on lore but what I get out of it is the sound and imagery
This raises the question, which of the tribunal is Drew. I'm gonna go with Vivec, the storyteller
Drew mentions how Peryite may prefer to be overlooked, quietly working in the background. That would make sense, and perhaps he wants the other Deadric Princes to view him as “weak”. So they won’t bother him. Jyggalag was strong and was becoming a threat, and the other Princes changed him into Sheogorath.
I'd say it's less about strength (the idea of power is pretty abstract when comparing the daedra), and more about Jyg's dangerously high ambitions. He sought to spread the influence of his order everywhere, even into the other Princes realms of Oblivion, and for that reason he was seen as a threat and cursed. Peryite, on the other hand, poses little threat to the other daedra not because he's weak compared to the others, but more because it's not in his nature to intervene with them or their realms.
@@euanprior1798
True. Still feel bad for Jyggalag though, so powerful and Orderly ambitious, and thwarted to become the embodiment of Chaos. A twisted fate.
Perhaps next he makes a Realm, he can still be super powerful but he won't venture as far as he did last time.
@@thalmoragent9344 Oh yeah he got the short end of the stick for sure. But hey, what do you expect when you interfere and piss off a host of mostly malevolent godlike entities. The daedra aren't renowned for their collective fairness lol
@@euanprior1798
Yeah but the fact most of them ganged up on him was a surprising event on its own 😅
@@thalmoragent9344 "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"
Loving this "a dead tree is more alive than a live one" philosophy! Great stuff, Drew!
Peryite is entropy and nutrition. He is weakness and opportunity. He is powerful in the way a glacier is powerful: he shapes the earth beneath him, carving the world itself, but so slowly you'd be forgiven for thinking he does not move at all. His potence is patience rather than force, but he molds nirn all the same.
Perhaps part of the reason why Perite is considered weak is that his sphere entirely deals with things that are entirely outside of things that can affect deadra. What is death, decay, disease, and natural order to an eternal being? Nothing, I would argue.
I have a theory:
Peryite might actually be an original aedra. Why did Arkay, the god of Life and death (natural order), have to mantle the position. I think because it was Peryite but he didn’t want to give up his power to Nirn and felt that being the taskmaster is more important, or maybe a falling out with Aka. Peryite has some secrets worth uncovering for any mortal
one thing I think people miss is that when they question why he inflicts disease and sickness, they forget that bacteria and virus are also living things of the natural order, and single virus cell would have the same significance to a god as a whole person
Thank you so much for embarking on this journey solo, Drew! I might be one of those douchebags who only watch your TES videos but I truly truly hope that all your videos get some beautiful traction to suppport you, your life, and your ability to create further 🧡
Glad we have the Daedrologist still! I was wondering if he was lost in Oblivion, trapped by Lord Dagon. Thankfully he is here to give us his knowledge once again.
Spellbreaker makes sense with this concept in mind. Disruption of the natural order comes at the hands of mortals practicing magic than any other life form. Throw ice, heal wounds, cure diseases, reanimate the dead, or become a God. A "Get that shit out of here." shield makes sense.
Could Peryite just be another aspect of the broken Dragon God like Auri-El and Akatosh?
It could, as it would represent the weak and corrupt version of Akatosh as seen by not Mer.
Auri-EL and Akatosh are one and the same, Gelebor said it with a few other names. We know Akatosh as Dragon God. Snow Elves know him as Auriel. He even has a statue outside the inner sanctum.
@@arbitecore422 Look up "Warp in West". The event caused the dragon god to split into two.
It's implied that Taskmaster took a from similar to Akatosh as a "primordial and eternal jest."
I assumed he was an extension of Akatosh. Alduin's job is to be the world eater to let this world pass into the next. He refuses his role, so the Dragon Born is released to kill all dragons and get Alduin back into his role.
The task master's job is the same. Bring things to their end. What doesn't die though the task master, becomes far stronger, evolved.
He's a mechanism of Akatosh to bring change over time.
Heard that there was a dragon priestess who sworn her allegiance to peryite, also heard that there was secret peryite cults within the dragon cult, don't know if any of these are true but if they are then there must be more to the prince.
Also first video of yours I've seen and already loving it.
There is a dungeon in ESO with this story. Forgot it's name
Scalecaller Peak. Her name is Zaan.
This does shed some light on why Peryite involves themselves with the Dwemer ruins and Spellbraker. Even they great and powerful are being reclaimed by nature, forgotten like yesterday often is.
I've been playing/reading/absorbing elder scrolls lore for 20+ years now, and none of it makes me appreciate the beauty/majesty of it all like a Drewmora video. Thank you for the monumental effort it took to make these videos. They are truly timeless creations that enhance the game for us all
A always thought Peryite had a larger role on Nirn thanks to his connection with diseases but this blew my mind. Never thought of him being connected to decomposition, but it makes perfect sense. Great work!
Great video! I hope Peryite gets more content in TESVI. I’m excited to see you branch out into Elder Scrolls on your own terms!
I feel like Peryite might get the same treatment Herma-Mora did in Dragon Born Expansion. Before that Herma-Mora was a much more obscure Daedric Prince. Who knows maybe in TES 6 we'll get a huge questline all around Peryite.
XD lmao no
@@Night-Rider101 Eh ur gonna be right.
I could see this. Azura played a part in Morrowinds main quest, blood moon was about Hircine, oblivion was about Mehrunes Dagon, Meridia played a part in Knights of the Nine, shivering Isles was about sheogorath, Hermaous Mora played a big part in Dragonborn, and the elder scrolls online main quest is all about Molag Bal.
TES 6s main quest or DLC will have a Daedric prince or two play a major part, and I doubt any of the others I mentioned will be retread. (Maybe meridia her role was quite small in Knights of the nine if I remember right, despite how connected to umeral she is in the lore and the fact her daedra are the main enemies.)
So who's not had a main quest or DLC about them yet. Mephala, Boethia, Namira, Clavicus Vile, Malacath, Sanguine, Vaemera and Peryite.
Out of all those I think I'd want to see Peryite explored more the most.
@@TheThezenith Same, but honestly Peryite or Sanguine need this little boost of lore most in my opinion.
@@TheThezenithI think if ES6 takes place in Hammerfell or High-Rock, a DLC should involve Malacath having his own sort of "Grey-March" resulting in him becoming separated from Trinimac.
Despite seemingly discovering this far later than I should have, I am so excited to see this honoured and learned Daedrologist create his own channel!
I was seriously wondering why my favorite videos from fudgemuppet were no longer being made. Turns out they're here! Lol
I was having a rough day where I just wanted to go limp and tired. Put on this video and in the first few minutes I sat up to listen more fervently. “A dead thing contains more life than a living one”
That, along with how beautifully written the script is and how well done the video is-
Didn’t expect to receive some major philosophical realizations today but here we are. Thanks, Drew. Knew I subbed for a reason ^_^
We've all been there, mate. It means a lot that my content can help in some small way. Thanks for the kind words.
I always got the impression that Peryite was very much like I am. I a person that likes to find fulfillment in order. I labor at my tasks, tend to my Family's needs and at the end of the day I sit back and look at the deeds I've done with reflection. Reflecting upon your actions gives much insight into your role in the World. And although it may be nothing more than a ripple in the Ocean of waves, it did contribute to the ever constant natural order of things. The world progresses much more positively and quickly if each part of it is disciplined and diligent. I think that Peryite is the embodiment of order. With my personality, I can understand and appreciate the existence of such an Aedra, Daedra or whatever entity Peryite truly is.
Thanks Drew! You truly are a master of “the voice” and you know how to use it!
Morning Drew (no pun intended), I have loved your Elder Scrolls lore videos with FM (for example the ones about Akatosh's sanity and the one about the Moth Priests and the one about Water and many others), and I have re-listened to many of them as bedtime stories. Wishing you all the best in your new solo career!
Peryite is my favourite of the daedra quests! Also the shield 😍
well this is why I usually listen to you and watch whatever channel it is. great video. so keep going. 9.5/10
Can Drew make a video about what a game in Akavir may look like? Personally, I think the only way it would make sense is for them to do a game there would be for it to take place in the Merethic/First Era so as to keep what's going on in Akavir in present times (in terms of the TES timeline) a mystery. The game could further expand on the first Dragon War that happened between the Tsaesci and Ka'Po'Tun in which the red dragons were wiped out and black dragons fled to Tamriel and Atmora, the origins of the Blades/Dragonguard, how Tosh Raka managed to transform into a dragon through Dracochrysalis, what the Ordained Receptacle that the Kamal were after was (maybe something that prevents them from freezing), what happened to the humans of Akavir, etc. Personally, I think that the Dragonguard were the last remnant of humans, or at least the ones that refused to be "eaten" by Tsaesci society, and fled to Tamriel to seek a human Dragonborn savior for their race in Reman. Obviously, we can't have everything exactly as we wish, but it would be insane if Bethesda did a game like this. They would have to reduce the number of playable races unless they created more, but it still would be crazy if they did a game like this. As I said, the only way for them to give us concrete info while still keeping what's going on in present Akavir a mystery would be to make it in the Merethic or First Era, and a lot of people have been wanting a game in the early timeline, so they could kill two birds with one stone by doing that. Also, so much changed on Tamriel alone from the First to Fourth Era that doing that would definitely keep the mystique of Akavir alive.
Doubt we’ll ever see an akavir game until Tamriel is all used up
@@therockingvolbeat3630 Sponge, me boy...
@@therockingvolbeat3630 It wouldn't be a mainline game, it would be a spinoff RPG (hopefully) kinda like how NV was to Fallout 3. So no, Tamriel would not need to be fully used, especially if the Akavir game took place in an earlier Era. It would be mostly, but not completely disconnected from the other TES games, so no reason why they should have to use all of Tamriel first
Akavir is actually just a VR simulation of a wide-open world the technicians on the moon working in the Remen cum vaults play.
@@idipped2521 personally I disagree I think we need the rest of Tamriel used first mostly for the casual fans..obviously we're okay with it but it might confuse ur average fan which Bethesda would want to keep in mind. After Tamriel sure let's go to Akavir firstt Era or second Era or so I'm fully down with that. Just after but that's only my opinion on it.
Peryite is my personal favorite prince so I’m very happy you made this video
Love you striking out on your own Drew, and i have to say that this video gives me a lot of confidence that your content is still as top notch as it was in Fudgemuppet
Been a fan of your videos on FM for years and will continue to do so on this channel Drew !
You got this m8 !
I will watch every deadrologist video you come out with. I wish you the very best with your new channel, cheers!!
I feel like I’m still watching a drew solo video on the fudgemuppet channel :( it really shows how much influence you had on the channel as a whole
Peryite's plans and machinations are so intricate, subtle, and delicately woven that few would even recognize them as schemes. And something tells me that's exactly the way the Taskmaster prefers things.
I love the idea that when people worship Peryite, he's going "No, stop it! You're breaking the 4th wall! Forget about me!"
The idea of Peryite being a janitor in oblivion who keeps writing letters to Akatosh and Kynareth desperately asking for a promotion is quite frankly hilarious.
I always thought that the Dragonborn’s interaction with Peryite in Skyrim was interesting. After he explains his request to you, there is an option where you can ask, “What would I gain from this?” To which Peryite responds, “The pettiness of mortals. I almost forgot.” In other words, he seems to be saying, “I had almost forgotten that mortals don’t care about what’s important.” Perhaps that seems obvious to a lot of people… but most of the Daedric Princes don’t seem to regard the mortal plane as significant. In fact most seem to treat it as little more than a source of entertainment. Peryite on the other hand seems somewhat unique in that he views his work within the mortal plane to be of some importance. In contrast, he seemed disappointed in having to bribe the Dragonborn to do his bidding… perhaps even lamenting that mortals don’t appreciate what he does to (and perhaps even for) them.
What do you think Master Drew? I am an aspiring Daedrologist myself and have been studying under you for the past couple of years, when you were still with FudgeMuppet. 😅
This deadrologist content is getting me through my hangover!
I've begun my delve through Drewmora, and what's the first thing I find? My favourite daedric prince (only, is he?), getting some fresh attention. My boy, the Taskmaster.
I believe that Peryite is also another aspect of Auriel/Akatosh just for the reason that no one was depicted as a dragon without having a connection to him. Like the video said, decay is heavily associated with time which only Akatosh has a real control over. Plus, Auriel already ascended back to the immortal plane which may have given him the opportunity to took the form of someone who can preserve the natural order of things in accordance to time, that being Peryite. This would make sense to why the Daedric Princes viewed him as weak because he was once caught in the "deception" of Lorkhan.
It’s good to meet another scholar of the elder scrolls universe, I consider myself a leading academic in the study of mer in all their forms and greatly appreciate hearing the theories and studies of others of my kind. Next year in the imperial city !
Huh, you know what Spellbreaker makes so much more sense now, I thought it was odd that this pestilence demon gave you a magic shield but thinking about it in the sense that it returns the magic to the world breaking the spell as it were it makes a lot more sense.. cool 🤩
I never expected Drew to make a solo channel but I'm here for it and I have a lot of content to catch up on can't wait to see it
Peryite is my favourite. As a biologist, I also think that his concept also bears the most truth for real-life.
I have this theory, that Deadra are acually the Aspects of Aeadra, the remains of their godly essence, now bound to the limited forms of princes.
You are absolutely correct. I'm sure we all know that the decay of things is what brings life to, well, even our world today. But as many times as I've played Skyrim, completed this quest, and even recall the words of Kesh, I actually never thought about it that way. I will never complete this quest without thinking about this again. Thank you for opening my eyes to, well, reality.
Well Kyne is said to give the spirits of Skeevers to Peryite after they die so there's that to consider as well.
I feel like people misunderstand him so much honestly, this was a fantastic video :)
And so sotha sil departs from the tribunal to work on a world of his own making.
Jokes aside I'm looking forward to the future of this channel elder scrolls and the fromsoftware catalogue are in my opinion the 2 titans of video game world building and Im excited to see what you have in store for us :)
Spooky that I would only find this video 8 months after it was published. It must have been rather unnoticeable
Only channel I've clicked the bell icon for, GL in your future endeavors Drew!
Maybe Peryite was an Aedra that turned back after fleeing realizing that their creation may have had "Time" but no "Renewal", or controlled entropy. Maybe they were able to flee because they were conspirating with Lorkhan, because a Daedra doesn't need worship to be potent and their power is more constant.
Maybe, Peryite was a part of Akatosh stolen by/given to Lorkhan and flung into the sky.
Finally a Peryite video, I have a breton that worships peryite and believes that akatosh is wrongly given credit for things that belong to peryite.
There are things I would like to say about Peryite.
Firstly: Why would the Daedric Prince of the _Natural Order_ intervene with the _Natural Order_ of the world by messing with Mortals? Imperial Consensus sees Peryite as weak due to how he doesn't often directly interfere with Mortal affairs, but doing so would go against his role in the first place. The most direct influence he does most of the time is through disease, which he uses to curb overpopulation and to make sure the world does not fall into imbalance.
Second: It is said that Peryite also has to deal with "Realm Rips" that occur within Oblivion, which sound awfully similar to Dragon Breaks. Therefore, one could assume that Peryite takes on the appearance of a dragon not as a jest towards Akatosh, but because he is the one tasked with keeping Oblivion intact, similar to how Akatosh is the one who keeps the flow of time in order. Not only would Peryite not wish to disrupt the natural order of the Mortal Realm, but he is also too busy to interfere with the Mortals anyway.
Third: His importance is likely devalued by the other Daedric Princes due to many of them being opposites to Peryite. Daedra like Mehrunes Dagon, Sheogorath, Boethia, and Malacath are all daedra who embody something that often directly disrupts the natural order of the world. Not only would Peryite, in turn, dislike them, but would also likely despise Jyggalag, for Jyggalag's idea of "Order" is one that disrupts the natural order by effectively removing it altogether; despite the surface-level similarities, the two could not be more different.
One thing I’ve always liked about his d depictions is how how he looks like a very skinny serpentine western dragon and not like a wyvern as we’re use to seeing.
Papa nurgle & peryite must have some wild parties together
Top five to listen to when I just want a good comfortable day like all your videos reminds me that there is always another awesome story if you just look
Seeing a notif from both you and Fudgemuppet this morning really did feel like two Christmases XD
Drew I’m so glad I have found your page!!!!!! I have missed your stories!!!! Your amazing voice!! ❤❤❤ 😊 I have subbed and will binge watch
Peryite has always interested me but I never quite knew where to start so I tended not to venture far. Very good video as always ☺️
11:24 "Peryite is always being represented the same way, there are no other known manifestations of the Task Master." Except that he Manifested as a group of Ethereal Skeevers during his Quest in Skyrim. Personally that's something that always bugged me, he's described in text as being depicted as a Dragon, but then in a game WITH DRAGONS, the devs make him a bunch of Rats... Why? Is it a size of the Dragon Model issue? Then just move the Shrine to somewhere with enough room to fit a Dragon's Model!
I can see Magnus back in the Dawn Era asking Peryite to help "balance" out the Sphere of Mundus by nerfing the overgrowth that Jephre and Kyne probably led Nirni to sprout 😅
Thanks for the playlist Drew!!!
Something I've found myself thinking a lot lately is how closely Peryite and Nurgle (from 40k of course) seem to line up (especially when looking at the concepts of what they were like before the war in heaven twisted them)... feels almost like a daedric shake-up could turn the daedra princes into the chaos gods (Hermaeus Mora, Mephala, and Ithelia merge into Tzeentch, Mehrunes Dagon, Malacath, and Hircine merge into Khorne, Sanguine becomes Slaanesh... granted how they'd wind up with a power balance is completely beyond me but yeah I could see it working as a silly fan theory)
Maybe Peryite is Alduin's frail brother.
Both of them tries to end civilization in their own way.
Where Alduin's "devour" method is straight forward and quick.
But Peryite prefers slow process like diseases and epidemics, while scheming with mortals.
Maybe that's why Akatosh illegetimized his 'son' , making him Fallen Aedra , Weak even compared to Daedra ..
Good on you mate, still dishing out solid content on your own. Loved the in-game cinematography
Peryite is my dude. There is something beneath the surface with this God and it feels that he wants to keep it that way. Quite interesting compared to the other Gods who fight for veneration to make it to the next kalpa.
If Drewmora had a sphere of influence in Oblivion I believe it would be the vital essence of the elder scrolls series itself, immersion.
Yep, this is that good speculation that I can't ever have enough of .
Peryite, Namira, and Azura are bae
Whoa! Thanks Zach, I appreciate that! Good choices 👍 I have some big ideas for Azura and Namira's videos in the works
Providence and pestilence is such an amazing mod! Peryite stan for life!!!
I won't be able to forget about him 'cause I think he is my favorite Daedric Prince
Gorgeous, flowing prose 🤌👏👏👏
I really enjoy your work, Drew. Keep it up
Peryite and Hercine already... how long til we get Malacath? A great job as usual Drew.
Banger video. Excited to see this channel fill up with content
I feel like the worst aspect of Peryite is just how little we get to experience his sphere in game. Beat up some puking SOBs, get a magic shield, lame. Give me "a fantastic journey" where we shrink down and travel into someone's body to fight their immune system personally. Give us a quest where a town is in need of a good plague, but there are several options of disease and freedom of how to administer it. I feel like with just a few of those, where it really feels like you are working with the Daedric Prince, is all you really need to make them SOMEONE'S favorite.
Well now we know who Mrs. Frizzle warships
Whelp. I just found my new sleep playlist 😁
weird fun fact and kind of a crack theory, at the beginning intro of skyrim the prisoner that comes before you lies face down on the block, your character lies on their side and looks towards the guard tower from the side or sideways sound familler maybe this is a small reference to the esoteric idea of looking upon the wheel or tower sideways and realizing the truth of the reality and achieving khim!
That is actually a really interesting theory
There's so much I've never read and home into. All thos knowledge makes this game so much more enjoyable even. Started a new character after 5 years of not playing
Would be good to have some of the lesser Daedric Princes be included into more of the story of the Elder Scrolls game.
OMG, I wsn't really expecting this beautiful surpise, much needed. Yo, man. Thank you so much for this one ♪
Sometimes I wonder why some are labeled deadra it’s far more complicated than that especially since a label does not exactly make you good or evil especially if you’re a primordial being. Perhaps it’s lazy riding up at tassels and but sometimes i feel like some of the entities of elder scrolls could use other names to distinguish themselves.
Now this is what I love to see!
I used to watch these kinds of ES videos on FudgeMuppet and ShoddyCast.
He is the least and greatest of the Daedric House of Order.
I understand why you wanted to branch out but I'm glad you are still doing Skyrim stuff too. I've only played vanilla to this day and there are still builds I haven't made and things I haven't tried and I still find something new every time I play.

I always liked Drew's storytelling better. I honestly thought that Scott's glasses were too much of a distraction. They look like expensive glasses for the sake of being expensive. Drew is far more down to earth and that's what makes me love his storytelling.
He doesn't even show his glasses in the videos like this. What a dumb comment
You outdid yourself with this one
Peryite knows that all things come to pass…
His time will come, whether he works towards it or not.
Periyte is underrated, period.
I am HIGHLY suspicious of any god/power in the Elder Scrolls that has a notorious reputation of being “weakest”. Nothing is ever that simple.
Peryite is really not weak as he as made to seem, but he just simply chooses not to get involved due to his sphere being the natural order of things.
Why didn't he get involved with Corprus and Thrassian plague? They were unnatural and caused great disturbance to his natural order.
Ah the deadrologist returns!
Ever thought that he doesn't need the worship of Man or Mer, because he already has all other life worshipping him, so Man and Mer would just be a drop in his vast ocean of worship he already has. The other princes seem to prefer the worship of Man and Mer as they are more capable worshipers able to do their bidding, so there is no crossover, and thus no conflict he could have with the other princes for followers. This would also make him by far the most powerful, but the lack of ego means that he can just be in the background plodding away as the job, like a stay at home mother, keeping her house in order, just getting on with things so long as nobody gets under her feet all is good. But if someone did get under their feet then everyone soon would know who rules the roost. and its for this reason the other princes do not get under Perys feet and let him get on with thing.
I like the in character narration.
