Last 3-4 years, utd lost its value both business and to attract player. Barcelona is basically holding the policy, they can enforce whatever they want on any situation, either make the price inflate at the last day, or reduce wages. A very good situation for Barça.
Publicly he has said he wants to stay, if the transfer fell through, Barca fans wouldn't be happy if Frenkie said he wanted to go.

I can't believe how slow United are in negotiations deals. We've been discussing add ons for almost 2wks and then we have to find an agreement with De Jong on personal terms for God knows how long. It's terrible. I can see why Ronaldo wants to leave because any serious club should've wrapped up this deal within a week of agreement.
And why can't we negotiate deals simultaneously. We had to hijack Malacia's deal and waited until Arsenal put in a bid before discussing Martinez and that's just 3 players. We need at least 5 signings. Its so pathetic and frustrating.

Dembouz is a free agent as his contact ended just this week, but no one knows if he'll renew or move.
The Messi situation was different tho.. the new contract was completely agreed but because he already was a free agent it counted as a new signing and didnt fit in the salary cap. Frenkie could just refuse to leave and theres nothing that Laporta/Barca could do

Messi wanted to take 50% cut but Laliga doesn’t allow anyone to take 50% cut which means he couldn’t get registered. In the case of fdj, he could just disagree to both Barca and manu and continue earn whopping salary like umtiti did but this might lead to Barca not being able to register new signing as they please.

FDJ already said he had no intention of leaving Barcelona. Barcelona only entertained the idea of selling FDJ if a huge offer came in. This of course was before those "economic levers" were agreed upon and activated by Barcelona. Barcelona never wanted or needed to sell FDJ. The way the market is, FDJ is valued at 100M minimum. Some might say even more. A club like United offering 65M is laughable. I don't blame them though because that's the nature of the game. The buying club wants to get players as cheap as possible, while the selling club wants to get as much as they can.
