As a muslim ,I can tell you that it's pretty much an unspoken thing ,and there are a certain type of guy that segregates himself from women in the preferences of bro bonding,then he acts like it's out of zealous, religious practices, but really he gets married out of duty and has his BFF always sniffing around.We women sense these things. But the community just goes ,wow that's a really strong religious guy ,he never mixes with women and his friends love him ,he's so attentive he even bought his friend a car or whatever.

As a gay man, I love that this character embodies all the ironies, ignorance and prejudices gay men can have. Nowadays there's this belief that just bc we're a minority, we're never wrong and that we're always under attack by "the straights", when many times it's just us who are restraining ourselves and mistreating others, while the rest of the world is just chilling 😂😂 Nobody is perfect, not even the gays!

Gays can be...intolerant amongst themselves (which is quite common in a-n-y minority groups). Why? Due to the society (overwhelmingly heterosexual) they live in, i.e. equal rights & protections under the law (e.g. right to marry [whether a strong minority will opt at as heterosexuals do]; right-wing politicians poisoning the air with their pseudo moral outrage of attempting to banning books with gay characters/references (happening in Republican controlled states in the US); children conversion therapies (debunked, harmful therapy to make gays, heterosexuals) pushed by right-wing christian 'purists'; transgender's being openly discriminated, assaulted...killed (higher than any other group), and politicians (US) pushing to kill gays and supporting legislation in countries that do...ad nauseum. Lip service is just that. Indeed, there are major cities, that are tolerant to openly embrace gays. However, in villages and rural areas, it is quite the opposite. I'm curious in which utopian country do you live? I wish you well.

@@coltonkleins, how do you know that? Seems like you see what you want to see. The bit is about a straight guy who pretends to be gay to get attention hence his fight with anyone who is gay in his village. That I might find insightful but seems like that went way more over your head.

For me, it's a series of sketches over many episodes and a number of seasons about a gay guy, played by Matt Lucas (who is gay) playing on the notion that despite his insistence that he's' the "only gay in the village," and that nobody "accepts him," they are, in fact, everywhere.
And, and this is the pertinent bit, in spite of his obsession that he's surrounded by people who don't accept him, nobody actually cares.
The more the series goes on, the more gays there are, and the more obvious this becomes. Daffyd, just gets off on and insists upon clinging to his delusions.
If I remember rightly, in one of the very last episodes of Little Britain, it turns out that Daffyd has a gay brother, played by James Corden and there's a scene in the pub where everyone turns out to be "a gay!"
Catherine Tate, IMO, did a much better job with the whole subject with her "Gay Son" series! 😉😉

David and Matt are excellent 🎬 actors that have a backbone of courage to push the boundaries of appropablity of a wide cross section of modern society.

Little britain was one of the few sketch shows that was hilarious start to finish every week, shame there is no way something like it would be broadcast today the ability to have a joke is completely lost.
@alex robertson I could never go the ladies having sauna and beauty treatments (white towels, fat suits - 'Bubbles'). But laughed in pain at Matt in the wheelchair, and David as the ever so accommodating carer. (Andy & ??) Him getting out of the wheelchair always had me in hysterics. And Vicky Pollard - always had to listen, to her protesting, in fifth gear to keep up. Quite something to create a satirical character like Vicky who becomes something bigger 👏

What makes this funny and not offensive is that every character around him are inclusive and unfazed except him, the fact the gay character actually makes fun of homophobia instead of making fun of gay people.

It's supposed to be a 'Welsh accent'. Considering the action takes place in a village called Llandewi Breffi, naturally they would speak with a Welsh accent.

One of my all to time favourite bizarre comedies had Ruth Jones in it..it was called Nighty Night ..one of the maddest British shows ever created & Julia Davies wfote it with the amazing Mark Gatiss ..if you haven't seen it then SERIOUSLY treat yourself Angus Dayton is brilliant in it 😂

If people thought this was offensive then they did not truly watch the show, the town was open and supportive of homosexuality, Daffyd was the only homophobic person, he was laughed at by the crowd, and all his actions to promote gay rights were surface level and intended only to rile people up.

I recall being in a cafe in a small town in mid-Wales (Newtown) around 1976-78, when down the High Street walked a group of young men. One a punk with a spectacular multicoloured Mohican; one an emo dressed in black & with heavy eyeliner and jet black hair; one in heavy metal chains & studded leather, and the fourth wearing a fishtail parka & DMs. We were en route to visit an ageing hippy in an isolated cottage above Caersws. Didn’t notice anyone in tight shiny latex - maybe the local gay guy wasn’t the outdoor type?
