This might be the best I've ever heard you play.

Your reviews are always wonderful. Your really evaluate things from a variety of player's perspectives and not just your own. For instance, here you discuss the relevance to soloists, cover band musicians, jazzers, even marching band directors. Love it.
Thanks so much for always taking your reviews the extra mile. And thanks for doing it with such earnestness and enthusiasm.
I always look forward to your videos.

Ironic you chose Grover Washington's "Mr. Magic"; I play a lot of Grover's stuff during my gigs so for me this was a particularly useful demonstration. I'm not sure if it was your microphone or even your reed, and I have a powerful set of Logitech Desktop computer speakers that give a pretty accurate representation of tone, depth and volume of music when I use it for music playback, but I found that the sound from the mouthpiece and Selmer combination (mine is a Selmer reference 54) was "thin"? It was almost the sound I would expect from playing a reed that was too soft and on the verge of squeaking if I tried to push the volume up. I even tried the playback on my tablet that is connected to my PA speaker with my backing tracks that I use for live gigs and found the same thing (just a lot louder obviously!). My particular set up is a Reference 54, Theo Wanne Shiva IV (metal) and Theo Wanne GAIA IV (HR) mouthpieces using Rigotti Wild uncut reeds.

High Donna, Awesome sound and excellent review. I have the Avatar for my tenor, 6 tip and alto, 6 tip. But for my tenor i'm using a Vandoren Bass Clarinet reed # 2.0 and it sounds incredible. That's my set up right now. Other reeds did not work as well for me with the Avatar. 😊🎷

Thank you. Did you find you needed to go down a size for this mouthpiece (do you normally use a 7 or 7*)?

Yes. My main mouthpiece is an Ottolink 7* FL. The Avatar is pretty powerful so using the Vandoren Bass clarinet reed gave me more control and it brought the sound down without compromising the high register to where i felt comfortable playing Jazz . It is nicely free blowing, something i always look for when i match reeds with a MP. And i definitely agree with lining the reed tip exact with the MP tip. @@DonnaSchwartz
