The lead singer from this, Jeff Lynne, was part of a supergroup in the late 80s, The Travelling Wilburys. It also consisted of The Beatles' George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison. Their most notable songs were "Handle With Care" and "End of the Line".

ELO engineer Reinhold Mack remembers it quite differently. "As there was a plan for ELO to start a concert tour in Australia, the song was originally titled 'Don't Bring Me Down, Bruce,' Mack told Sound on Sound in 2013. "This was meant to be a joke, referring to how many Australian guys are called Bruce." Mack says a new word was actually added later. "We couldn't leave it like that, so eventually we replaced it with 'gruss,' based on the Bavarian greeting Grüß Gott - 'greet God.' Gruss, not Bruce, is what you hear in the song immediately following the title line. Mack also worked with QUEEN: "A bit like Freddie Mercury joking around at the end of Queen's [1985 single] 'One Vision,' singing 'fried chicken.'" "When I went onstage with it," Lynne told Rolling Stone, "everyone would sing 'Bruce.'" At first, Lynne stuck to his guns, singing his once-thought-invented, now-maybe-German word instead. Eventually, however, he caved. "I said 'Ah, fuck it,'" Lynne told VH1, "I'll sing 'Bruce' as well!" 😄. The band's name is a pun on "pops" orchestras that play popular music; in Britain they're known as "light" orchestras ⚡💡 🎹🥁🎸♪♫♬

And a great segue into a band called The Traveling Wilburys whose members include Jeff Lynne, George Harrison of the Beatles, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison's son, Dhani for a short time in 2007, and Jim Keltner on drums. These are all fabulous famous super musicians who just decided to get together for fun and became a band. So there are TWO rabbit holes for you today!

I highly recommend Tightrope, Telephone Line, Strange Magic, Do Ya, Fire on High and of course Mr. Blue Sky; the happiest song on earth. These guys were huge in the late 70s to 80s. Pre- MTV era so you won't find videos for a lot of their stuff and the ones you do find will be similar to this because that is pretty much how things were done before the video age.

ELO was a huge, huge, HUGE hit maker from the early 1970s to early 1980s. It is lead by genius Jeff Lynne who has musical legacy well beyond ELO - and that’s another long story.
Don’t Bring Me Down might be a fun song, and it was their highest ranking US chart single, but it is a bit misleading. It’s missing their biggest feature people know them for: orchestral strings - where the “orchestra” in Electric Light Orchestra comes from.
ELO has at least a dozen high profile songs to review. One tune you might recognize from movies is the LONG VESION of Mr. Blue Sky. Others include Evil Woman, Livin’ Thing, Telephone Line, Turn To Stone, Do Ya, Strange Magic, Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Hold On Tight, Last Train To London, Showdown, Can’t Get It Out Of My Head, and more. Their deeper cuts are great, too: Fire On High, Tightrope, Wild West Hero, Standin’ In The Rain, and more. These are a good start.
If you end up liking their sound, you find yourself jumping into a deep rabbit hole. A new generation of music lovers and RUclips reactors are discovering them and getting hooked. And no, ELO videos do not specialize in animation.

I did see ELO in 1976 at the Freedom Ffestivil at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park in northern ohio . There stage looked like a huge Flying saucer and the band started to play and half of the saucer lifted and there was the band. Later in the concert they had a Hot air balloon with a mirror disco ball it rose high in the air then they hit it with a Lazar beam the light was every where, they also shot a lazar beam to the moon, GREAT SHOW. But also at same concert there was more bands to see. Such as J Geils, Steve Miller, Heart, Elvin Bishop, and Roy Buchanan. and others. IT WAS A GREAT DAY. ps what i could remember. lol Great Reactions by the way.
