This was the official American video. It actually generated a lot of the interest in sports bloopers back in the eighties. The actual original video is a British one that more closely matches the lyrics, but it's VERY British. Haha. Not quite as accessible to American audiences, so this is the one that really caught on and became associated with the song.
I prefer the BRITISH video (and I am an American) because, as you said, it MATCHES the lyrics, showing a young man (a "busker) playing guitar and singing in the London Tube (subway) trying to make some money and singing "goldie oldies" THIS video makes NO sense to me as the sports theme has NOTHING to do with the lyrics.
They're so good and underrated. They are just someone to play continuously while busy and enjoy how good they are as you go about your business

I was 12 years old when this song came out and yes this is the official video. It's been since the 80's that I've seen it and whenever I hear the song I equate sports bloopers with it, now I know why.
