    Paddle outs can be brutal when you're at a beach break and the surf is big and constant. Some days only the best surfers (most in shape with excellent duck dives) can make it out. Best advice is to build up your endurance and skill in doing duck dives. It could save your life one day (leash breaks and you're a 1/4 mile off shore). That happened to me once and I had to swim from the 4th sand bar to the beach in over-head surf fighting a rip current on the inside. I had to swim non-stop as hard as I can for at least 30 minutes to get in.

      I realized this day one surfing in my town in Florida. You need to be an olympic swimmer half the time to get past the break.

      Andrew Nagy with fins it’s easy in my opinion. Add currents and big waves and ur not in shape. That’s dangerous

      fuckn oath ay. I made it out somehow on my third attempt a 200+ meter paddle out to the point at one of of my locals on a 10ft+ day. I was the only one to make it out by paddling. all the other blokes were rocking off at the point. I tried it once and ate shit. haven't done it since, just build endurance and paddle if you can.

    Thanks for posting this man, I always thought I was doing my paddle out wrong because I walk out until I'm chest deep and then Paddle. I also wait for sets to calm down so I don't waste too much time trying to get out, but that's mainly when I'm using my longer board, when I'm on my short board I just duck dive, but even then I wait for the waves to chill a bit., I never thought about the sand trick, I might have to try that. Good stuff man.

    My biggest problem as a beginner is the paddle out with a fomie, they just float so much and it just makes it that much harder to get through the waves, I know there is the turtle roll and other techniques but it just seems really hard. Could you please make a video of the paddle out with a foam board?

    Question: I notice that kiili compresses her body at her hip, while atua compresses more at the knees in comparison. Is there one method that's "better" than the other or just their style of surfing? Love your vids!! Keep it up

    • @Hopeforsurf

      Compression should definitely come from the knees as it allows you to generate more speed, power etc

    Paddle outs can be easy or difficult, here in socal, especially when there's swell, it can take forever to paddle out at some of the beach breaks. I've been paddling for 15 minutes straight just to get out to the lineup. But other times you'll get right out in 2 minutes.

    i still can't actually duck dive. a couple times I've tried a sort of duck where you sit on the front half of your board and just lean forward as much as possible, but the wave always eats me anyway. so when theres a day with a decent size, unless I time it right, its always a massive struggle for me to get past the breaking waves

      I've only been surfing 3 - 4 months now. I know what it feels like man. I would recommend grabbing weights and hold them and move your arms in a surf motion. That's making your arms stronger, the stronger your arm is the more power you put into 1 stroke will get you a further distance

    Hi may I know what to do when there’s a big shorebreak in front of me and I am carrying my foamy long surfboard walking into the sea?( where I am standing is too shallow to do a turtle roll ( like 2:09 in your video) or pressing tail of the board up may not be enough and there’s not enough for me to paddle to get over the wave)

    I want to paint my board but a lot of videos I see say I have to sand it. I sanding the fiberglass dangerous, and Is painting it a good idea?

    • @dehermannen2419
      @dehermannen2419 7 лет назад +6

      Yes, you have to sand it first. It is not dangerous if you sand it by hand, not with a machine. Sand it by hand with a 120 grain, and just enough to make it rough, not deeper. If you sand it stronger, you will touch the fibers, while you only have to make it rough in the gelcoat layer. After that you can paint it, but for the paint to last , you have to apply a new layer of gelcoat over the paint. the best is to spray it, painting it by brush is more difficult to make it even. After applying the gelcoat you can sand it with 150 grain, then 180, 240, 320 and 400. If you like a satin look, wet sanding 400 is enough, if you really like it glossy, you have to sand it further till 1000 and then polishing paste. Good luck.

    Also how does a fish tail differ from a standard round tail?

    • @MrMrWattz
      @MrMrWattz 7 лет назад +3

      Kat Liss it's how the water wraps around the board and how it flows off the surface area on the rails/tail
      So for example a fuller rounder tail will have more surface area and will carry speed through weaker/small waves and sections but won't turn as sharp as a narrow pin or square tail.
      And a fish like above has a wider tail than an average board will increase surface area aswell but has a swallow cut out of it, great for more control and bite.
      Don't know if this has helped haha, it's pretty confusing really
