In case anyone was saying pay the fines, I understand the fines to be very exorbitant. I have heard on other podcasts about local renting and the fees for going over contracted time and I wouldn't be surprised if it is in the thousand of dollars per hour or even minute.
came over here from Spotify to say that yeah I’m fine with the video version- likely just adds something for the people who want it. I mostly just listen to podcasts but it is convenient when I’m listening on Spotify and they do the whole “audio listeners sorry you can’t look at this right now” bit
Video on Spotify would be the same! For example, Android Auto in my car won't let me watch a podcast with video but it will still play the audio when I'm driving
The part where you guys mentioned about the ability to just let people play more Pokemon games at these tournaments really struck a cord for me. As a player, that's all I really want to do, just get to play as many games as possible. So I don't understand why over here in TPC land, they don't want us to play as many games as possible, with the whole x-3 and you're out when there's only 7 rounds of swiss to play. We just want to play, I can never understand them limiting that option for others just so they can finish on time even though it's always before dinner time.
Really envy the TPCi region for listening to the players and taking care about the players to make some changes. Over here in TPC region in Asia, we have like 200+ people fighting to even get a ballot slot to play in a league cup. It's crazy, it's frustrating and it seems like the people organising here doesn't care. All the best to you guys
Spotify listener here, adding the video shouldnt impact the experience at all. A lot of podcasts i listen to have video and i had no idea until i was actively checking lol
I have a video podcast as well and I've always uploaded the video to Spotify as well. When you have the phone turned off it only plays the audio. You can upload the video without a problem.
The changes allow more players to fight for a higher placement. Which really matters with the new top x format. Having top 128 locked behind day 2 felt real lame at the time, especially seeing that 128th and 129th didn’t win a single day 2 match
I think the thing that’s weird to me is that they specifically called out the Louisville situation in the post but the change didn’t address it at all. That makes it even less clear what they think the problem and the solution are. Maybe I’m not in touch with the whole community, but to me it seemed that most (at least the most vocal) people seemed concerned with the number of rounds played as a direct result of Louisville, in the sense of “hey can we get one more round to sort out this X-2 not making cut business” rather than “I really wanted to play more games” being the gripe. By mentioning Louisville but also conflating it with the people who were asking about the change from 15 to 12 rounds, it makes it less clear whether they understand the cause and effect of these decisions. Do they think this change fixes the Louisville issue? Do they think the Louisville issue isn’t worth dealing with and this change fixes things for people that just wanted to play more? Do they think “hey can we get an extra round to fix Louisville” is equivalent to people just wanting to play more games in a vacuum? Do they have more changes coming to fix the X-2 issue? Do they think that by opening day 2 to more people who obviously can’t make cut they’ll normalize the idea that making day 2 does not necessarily mean ability to reach top cut, and people will eventually forget making day 2/being X-2 meant a guaranteed chance to top cut? The train of logic was just super hard to follow from the post. It makes it hard to tell whether they understood the problem, lumped two different problems together, if any other alternatives were discussed, etc. Even taking it at face value, it seems strange to go from the stated problem being that people generally want to play more games to the solution being that this one specific slice of people at X-2-1 now get to be the only ones to benefit from more games. Just bizarre all the way around. I don’t really have a stake in this argument, given that I just picked the game back up a few months ago I doubt I’ll be making day 2 at regionals when I go next month or any time soon, but as someone relatively new coming in from the outside this whole discourse has been strange.
uhhh i dont think so it doesnt solve the issue of the player at 17th bubbling out of cut for no reason other than bad tiebreakers i personally think asymmetrical cut is one of the better things theyve done, the new round system is the problem
I only watch the Podcast on YT because there is a video on here. If there was a video on Spotify I would prefer Spotify. Users can toggle Video on/off as they like and still listen, so no big deal if you upload a video.
Does x-2-1 not still make top cut if the tournament is >2049 players and you get the return to 9 rounds day 1? (Actually, did we pull one of that size off before they changed the day 2 rule back, where players needed to go 7-2?)
Agree with a rule that X-2 makes top cut. Also, there should be a 60 minute round time maximum. If round result isn’t reported within 60 minutes it is a double loss.
OR...big brain strats...upload BOTH the audio AND the video to Spotify and then your listeners can decide the format they choose to consume themselves? Plus ad revenue from both?
These tournaments are getting too big for top 8 to make sense. Either more events should be running on each weekend next season with the current system, or top cut should be expanded to t32 or even t64.
We just need to go to best of 1s and be done with it honestly. The constant bickering about all this is so tiring... Day 1 should be bo1. Day 2 bo3 and top cut
Azul, you're killing me. They cut the Swiss rounds for time. They didn't think the community wanted a trade off; they just knew a trade off was necessary to give the community asymmetrical top cut. And now that we have it, you spend endless amounts of time complaining about a problem that you yourself admit affects a small percentage of players at a small percentage of tournaments. I love yall, but it's clearly stated they did this to keep tournaments from running long. Stop speculating that Pokémon company thought the fans wanted fewer Swiss rounds; they aren't saying that.
Maybe I'm missing something but it sounds like they said they cut some swiss rounds to make time for Asym Cut I never said that Pokemon said that the community wanted less swiss rounds I said it seems like Pokemon thought this was a better system and the community would want Asym over more Swiss rounds and I don't think the community wants that
"they just knew a trade off was necessary to give the community asymmetrical top cut." To be clear I don't disagree with this statement of yours I just don't think the community would ever want Asym Cut over 3 Swiss Rounds and I'm confused as to how TPCI came to the conclusion to make that change

I agree with you but what do you expect them to say? Even if they feel the same as we do, they have a relationship with the Pokémon Company that would end immediately if they start throwing them under the table. It's easy for us to complain about a billion dollar company not spending a little more cash to help the players out b.c nothing happens to us if they see our comments haha

Bring back the old ways with more rounds and bring back the worlds points invite just saying also bring more events to the east coast
