    My problem was overheating intermittently on a 2008 sportsman. Finding the issue was difficult until the fan finally stopped working permanently . Your video was great and very helpful in diagnosing the problem. I went through all your steps and like you found it to be the circuit breaker. On the 2008 the circuit breaker is WELL hidden under the main fuse block and frame at the front of the machine. Not nice to get at. Anyone wishing to save a few bucks, the 10 amp breaker at a local automotive supply is 1/4 the price of Polaris part.
    Thanks again for the video

      I am glad the video helped! I had a time finding mine and hoped to save others the hassle. I hate it wasn’t in the same location, but I am glad you were able to find it. It makes no sense why they hid the circuit breakers. Thank you for watching! I hope you don’t have any other issues for a long time.

    Just finished replacing the relay/fuse by the battery. Nice job on showing how to trouble shoot. I had no idea about this relay/fuse and would have taken ATV to the shop. Just subscribed to see what else you have to offer.

    Thanks for the video! I bought a 2013 Polaris Sportsman 500 recently and it was a hot mess with the wiring ! I fixed the majority of it and this was the last on my to do list, as you mentioned on the video it was the 12v 10 amp circuit breaker that was the issue...it was heavily corroded and power wasn’t getting through so I replaced it.

    Wow, great diagnosis! I have a 2014 400 HO with the same issue...I'm going to see if this is the issue. I've been dreading having to load the parts cannon with all the other sensors and relays but if it is a simple fuse/circuit breaker that's easy to get to I'm all for at least trying to replace it. I'll post again to let everyone know if this fixed it. If not then it's off to the races with thermostat & other sensors. Fingers crossed.

      That was it! Thank you so much! $10 from amazon and it's on the way. I removed that circuit breaker, tried to source it at NAPA and my locat ATV shop (who said that was on backorder for over a month) but ended up buying it from Amazon. I removed the circuit breaker, started up the engine and jumped the connection and bingo, fan is running again. Why Polaris would hide that part in that location is beyond me. Thanks again!

    Thanks I've currently got my fan hot wire to an on / off switch, having to replace it, after a hard ice bog hunting return trip, that turn my machine into a mud ice-cube. it also fried the regulator too.I have the coolant temperature switch, but I'll definitely check the fan relay and look for an overload in the circuit too. Rebuilding my winch at the moment too and rewiring everything, with watertight fuses as I go. Thinking maybe mounting the rad, up top, above the mud line, is a better idea, even if i loose the front cargo space.

    • @FishHuntCookTinker
      @FishHuntCookTinker  4 года назад

      I can only imagine what turning one into a “mud ice-cube” could tear up! I don’t think I could do without the cargo space. I am always strapping things down all over my wheeler. Good luck getting everything going again. Thank you for watching!

  • @gmdonoghue
    @gmdonoghue 3 года назад

    Excellent video explaining the process - thanks heaps. One thing I don't get though - you confirmed that there was power to the relay, so how did the faulty circuit breaker cause it to not work? Does the circuit breaker cut off positive and negative cables?

    • @FishHuntCookTinker
      @FishHuntCookTinker  3 года назад

      To be 100% honest it has been a while since I traced all the wires out. If I remember correctly the circuit breaker was on the down stream side of the relay. The hot wire came to the relay then back through the circuit breaker. Then to the fan. The circuit breaker only controls the positive wire. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching!

    I have a 2008 sportsman 500 h.o (non efi) with a fan that always stays on, even with the ignition off? Displays engine hot even tho engine is cold, any idea what it could be?

    • @FishHuntCookTinker
      @FishHuntCookTinker  2 года назад

      I have not run into that one yet. I would check the thermostat and relay. Something has to be stuck to send power even when the switch is off. Possibly the ignition switch.

    2012 500 HO. Had same service message. Bypassed sensor that is on the radiator, the fan didn’t turn on at first but now turns on but “check engine hot” message is still on screen. Any input on what it could be???

    • @FishHuntCookTinker
      @FishHuntCookTinker  3 года назад

      My circuit breaker would go in and out. I would think I had it fixed. Then it would stop working again. Finally I changed the circuit breaker and solved my problem. You can temporarily bypass it just to be sure. Definitely wouldn’t run it that way, but works for troubleshooting.

    2016 570 ranger. My problem turned out to be a bad ground. Everything is grounded under the fuse box under the drivers seat. Factory job is terrible, too many wires in each ring lug, poor crimp, and ground stud and frame are painted. My son could have done better when he was in the 5th grade.

    • @FishHuntCookTinker
      @FishHuntCookTinker  3 года назад

      I am not very familiar with the ace. It should be the same basic setup. Test you fuses, thermostat, and circuit breaker. If they are all good it may be a bad fan. Wish I could tell you more about them. I just have never worked on one. Thank you for watching and wish you luck!

      I miss spoke. I checked it at the 20 amp main fuse not the relay. Don’t know how I didn’t catch that when editing. You can see it at 9:00. I checked it at the fuse to check the integrity of the wire from the relay block to the main fuse. The wire goes from the battery. To the circuit breaker then to the fuse block. Ending at the relay block. I hope this helps.
