Very helpful, thank you for taking the time to explain. I had the same problem Hot Check Engine with my fan running continuously with key off. Problem solved.

I have an 05 1/2. It has been a nightmare of electrical problems. Replaced the computer, and more electrical parts than I care to mention. Turns out the stator was the issue. Been problem free for almost a year now. Knock on wood

Can your ecm finally just burn up?
And if so can that damage any other part of the wire harness ?

In my opinion, yes, and yes. Someone had already replaced the ecm in the machine I bought, they didn't mention the stator was bad. It's possible the ecm could have had something to do with burnt up stator

I have a 2003 polaris sportsman 500ho 4x4 and the hot light flashes after 15 to min running I change the thermostat, radiator capcoolant lifted front to bleed air out and replaced waterpump impeller with aluminum and the seal and nut clean radiator vents and new temp sensor and light flashes still I found couple of wires under headlight where gauge cluster is and fixed them so the only thing I think it could be would be cdi what you think

I have 06 sportsman 450 when I drive it in the water hot and check engine light flashes ! Any help to solve the issue thanks .

First thing I would check is the engine temp with a temp gun to see if the engine is actually overheating or not.

New ECM didn't fix the problem for me. 2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO... As soon as I turn key the fan turns on, speedo starts flashing, hot light blinking, check engine light blinking, disconnecting cylinder head temp sensor doesn't change anything. ECM cost me about $170 after tax and it didn't fix it... UGH....Put the old one back in.. Not sure what to try next?? Any ideas?

Same problem. Did you solved it?

The temp sensor on the side of head. I don't remember the ohms range it was supposed to be but mine was way out of spec...

Mine did that. It was a defective stator. Not a difficult or expensive fix. About 70 bucks from Amazon, doing great. I also replaced ecm, made no difference. It also overcharged part of the time, up to 18v. Destroyed a bettery before I figured it out.

My temp light is on and my battery drains all the time. This might be the culprit
