Nicki if you’re reading this….I too lost my husband to suicide at 31 yrs of age. He was abusive and a drug addict. I finally left him and he took his life. Leaving me to raise our 2 children and one being autistic. I got medical help and picked myself back up piece by piece. When you’re in the thick of it, it seem impossible to get through. Time is a healer just a slow one. It’s been almost 20 yrs since he passed and my life is much better. That day will always haunt me but I can cope with it today. Death was a friend to me. I’m able to live today and have a beautiful grand baby. A friend once told me “this to shall pass” and you know what Nicki……it has. I wish you a wonderful happy life. Tonya🌺

I suffer from severe depression and constantly lose a purpose to live each day, 7 years of r@pe by a pedo did SO much damage to me mentally and physically. I lost so much of my spark and happiness. Whenever I watch her videos I feel happy, I feel good, i feel like I’m accepted for who I am as a person, in a way I feel like she’s my guardian angel who cheers me on to clean, I feel motivated to clean. Then I clean, even if it’s little, that little cleaning turns to deep cleaning and I feel INCREDIBLE. I fall into such a deep sleep where I don’t need to wake up and be afraid, I feel refreshed and recharged. Even if it’s temporary, it goes a long way. I adore this woman so much and hope one day I get to help clean houses for those who are struggling just like me, I don’t want them to think they’re alone.

Often when people experience trauma, their bodies are constantly on high alert, using up a lot of energy just to get through the day.
Then, when they get out of the traumatic situation, it's common to feel very exhausted for a long time, because the body is worn out and no longer in survival mode.
If you have any friends who have gotten out of abusive relationships, it might be a good idea to check up on them afterwards and help them out with chores if you can.

I grew up in a very toxic and abusive home, and I'll be the first to admit that the stress from traumatic events rarely hits you while you're in survival mode. You can't afford to show weakness around someone that will take advantage of it and exert their power over you, so once you leave or escape that situation, it can hit you like a tonne of bricks. Sometimes my home gets cluttered or messy (no where near this level), and that's when I know that I'm struggling with something inside, and the mess I feel in my mind leaks out into the physical home. It's very hard to feel like you're making any progress overcoming the trauma of abuse when your home is a wreck. Auri, you're truly an angel helping all these people. I have a theory about why people struggle to keep up with housework after a violent relationship- when you leave a highly controlled environment, that control and structure is no longer there, and suddenly the person is expected to create their own structure and routine which they are not used to. I struggled massively with my housework after leaving a domestic violence relationship- what helped me was establishing a routine and doing a small amount of cleaning every day. But it is hard when you are traumatised and have no self-esteem to pick yourself up and realise you are worthy of a good life and clean house.

I completely agree with this theory. I was in an abusive relationship where he was ALSO extremely controlling about cleaning and exactly how each thing was done, down to the smallest details. When he was gone, my house turned into a clutter nightmare. I saw it as a symptom of my defiance, but hadn't realized how he took away my ability to think and structure those activities for myself. Huh. Wow. Thank you for sharing your theory, I hadn't even considered that, I only looked at it like I was bucking against his authority, and I was depressed and coping. This could definitely be part of how I got like that.

The decluttering and cleaning work you do *for free* is way more than enough. Some paid workers would refuse to do that (I'm not judging them). So you don't have to justify yourself to people who are just sat, watching you behind a screen. Plus the tenants would more likely want to go though their own stuff and organize by themselves since it's their personnal possessions.
You're already making a huge difference and are well documented about mental health and other factors that might interfere with people's ability to take care of their environment. I want to thank you for this. I also see homes in really bad conditions in my internship (as a social worker). And if we don't do the cleaning ourselves, we try to offer to call some specialised services to help the person.

I recently helped my messy son clean his house- it was almost as bad as this one.
I filled his 2 bins then stacked about 50 large garbage bags on the back porch.
He is actually getting rid of 1 bag a week.
His father lived the same way but he was mostly with me and I am clean, tidy and organised.
Anyway my point is- he is recognising that the rubbish needs to go; sometimes people just need help at the start to get them moving.

There's an important saying "You survived the abuse, you are going to survive the recovery."
Violent partners or parents also often shame their victims for not keeping perfect order, that can backfire. And if she is chronically ill and was abused she may have adrenal fatigue on top. The disorder translates to, "My home is not safe."
Poor Nikki, I get how her Instagram became her comfort. ❤❤❤😢😢😢

Auri, I dont know if you guys do this in Europe, but in the US sometimes we do a sage smudge or burn palo santo in a home where there has been sadness and tragedy. Even if the benefits are just attributable to the placebo effect, it really does make a difference in the perceived atmosphere of the home. Watching this video, I really wish I could send Nikki a bottle of sage water to mist around to mark the beginning of a new relationship with her home! Thank you for what you have done for her!

Hello Auri and your friends! You did a wonderful work! Nikki will have a new start with her home cleaned. I wish her all the best in her life. Depression and anxiety expressed differently in people. I suffered deep depression and OCD I started to clean for 10 to 15 hours a day! I was unemployed which upset me so much! Even when i found a tiny bit of dust, i started to clean the whole apartment again! I was so crazy that i cleaned the kitchen and the bathroom floors with a tooth brush and iron everything and even steamed cleaning towels! I was totally crazy.
My family, friends and professional help got me out of that situation.

I don't mean to compare myself to Nikki, because each person suffers their own problems uniquely, but I too have suffered from a long term emotional and psychologically abusive relationship. I'm now a month free from what had been my permanent burden to carry for so long, losing myself to ensure someone elses happiness and feeling hopeful that someday things would have been better. There is nothing worse than feeling stuck and looking at yourself in the mirror and not recognizing yourself, while having so many past memories and wondering when all the happiness went away. It always starts with 'I'll do that tomorrow' and being alone and cut-off from family and friends. When no one ever comes to your home, you let go of things and then it gets worse and you always have excuses never to let anyone come home.. and then it worse and worse and suddenly you don't know where to start to clean anything. You give up and continue living in the mess as it piles up more and more. This is where you need an angel to come and help you out. Someone who will walk in and just know how to get stuff organised, clean and give you a new life. Check in on your friends and relatives when you are doing well. Especially those you have not heard from or are going reclusive. And when you find yourself going down a spiral, reach out! Reach out to a neighbour, a co-worker, invite friends home to motivate you to get your home together before it gets too bad. It takes a village to teach a child and it takes a village to take care of each other.

Interesting to see how other parts of the globe do things. I love the bathrooms that can be rinsed down with the shower sprayer! We have a separated washer and dryer to clean clothes.
