So glad the "professionals" are having the same struggle I did (an extreme amateur) while remodeling a kitchen 🤣 Sam is holding this whole operation together and Jordan just has two grumpy old men yelling at him all day.

Anyone curious about the Dish soap thing, it's only meant to help with eliminating bubbles in the final finish coats and supposedly help with final sanding on the last 2 layers of the mud. In the 3 million plus square feet of apartments I've built over the last 6 years, I have NEVER seen this done and only heard people laugh about it. Many people agree it's largely BS and those 2 things are eliminated by simply mixing properly as well as proper application methods. Additionally there are notes in some manufacturers products that modifying the mix or adding non approved substances will void any implied warranty (not that drywall mud really has one anyways).
As someone who has spent a period of time as a drywall/plaster trades person, I have also never seen nor heard of it done. Watching them mud the walls was like watching monkeys hump a football. No disrespect intended.
Now, mixing mud with hot water can speed set time. You can also use a spray bottle of water and a trowel to smooth mud out when it gets to the gray semi-dry stage. Spray the wall and keep your trowel wet. You can smooth some high spots and fill in low spots. I love that trick to reduce sanding because sanding sucks!
Looking good fellas! If only you folks in the States could learn to skim coat walls you'd save yourself sooo much grief.

Just curious why you guys didn't add insulation behind the drywall before you installed it. Looks like an exterior wall.
I’m no expert at all, so dont take my word for this, but I’ve worked on an older house or two and some have used some sort of pellet insulation. It seemed kinda like tiny cardboard balls. If I remember correctly, the houses that did have it had those horizontal slats on the exterior walls. So those slats on his wall may just be filled with tiny insulation pellets. May not be the correct answer, but it’s an answer lol
Those old houses don't really have insulation anyway.
I got a flashback to working with my dad when John said “you cutting a fu@&ing dovetail son or what” when Jordan was taking forever to cut the corner off the sheet rock.
Lol my dad and I basically re-joisted our Kitchen/Dining Room. We used to have 3" of sag/belly in the center of the room compared to the outer walls. Now I feel taller.
My youngest son bought his first house which was built in 1916 and it looks like that kitchen has the old knob and tube wiring still like his does. We removed all that and rewired the whole house and removed all the lather and plaster and going back with insulation and drywall cool job
Looking good gentlemen! Keep up the good work! Hopefully the Mrs. and the Little Ms. can survive till this is all done!. Did you have to test for asbestos or lead? Seems that some of that "stuff" would be in there somewhere mixed in with all the Diabetes and such.

No underlayer ? plus you dont put the cabinets on top of the flooring, the floor moves througout the year due to moist in the air. so yout kitchen might get crooked.
You have a whole wall you're redoing and you're not redoing the insulation at the same time? Why not?

Someone's looking for serious kickback, trimming flooring like that on a table saw. Should have been linear cut first, then crosscut. Not the other way around.

Wellllllllll,,, you should hang the lid then the walls, and this isn't a cabinet, cut you sheetrock 1/4 inch short of measurement will prevent fighting something above your head and help eliminate those pesky blow outs on the edges. Hot mud is usually for small patches, NOT entire rooms as it is harder to sand. (I prefer light topping, especially for any trowel on type texture that you have to sand down.)

You Americans confuse me with plastering. Here in the UK it just seems a lot more simple, just a flat plaster coat over all the plaster board (dry wall).

I'm confused about the "texture" wall. Was that just an excuse to not sand down the filler?
The original home owners textured every surface in the house. So we decided to texture instead of having one room not match everything else. It wouldve made for weird transitions.
