    Additional point
    1. Put on glove to protect you and your loved ones.
    2. Remove tourniquet, occlude vein before introducer stylet.
    3. Prepare a saline flush before starting the process.

The part where the IV cannula will be inserted and applied with alcohol should never be touched with barehand. The needle and cannula should never be touched by our fingers to prevent contamination which can lead to infection. You can also prevent the oozing of blood by applying pressure the vein to the insertion site.

  • @shnmco

Ohhh with experience and practice you'll master it! But I do would like to make a comment to prevent the bloody mess: please before applying pressure on the tip of the cannula release first the tourniquet to effectively block the access so no blood leakage. Nurse here 😄

I would say remove the torniquet once cannula is advanced into vein. Then always choose the vein which is going straight because if you choose the veins like ‘ branch’ , IT wont last longer. Besides that, when the cannula moves to the other side of tissues, it will cause extravasation.

While ejecting the needle part from cannula you have to remove first Tunicate. Tunicate is necessary to remove as we know that the veins carry deoxygenated blood towards heart means it's a backflow of blood. Due to this the pathway of blood is blocked and the blood found another way out.

IV cannulation is a sterile procedure, so use of sterile gloves is most necessary to maintain sterility ,,,,,, and also, after inserting the cannula into the vein a sterile gauze piece should be placed under the connector part to prevent spread of blood , then untie the tourniquet .

Have cannulated very difficulty, in easy vein, further flushing after cannulization is also important even if there is backflow...
Even after hand sanitization, gloves are necessary as we never know if there serology is positive or not , risk of cross infection is very high...
Should know pressure point so that excessive blood will not flow as shown in video

Very good video. fingers should not be touching the actual cannula itself, even sheathed, there is a risk of bacterial transfer. The hub is okay to touch, but, unless the mfctr says to hold it this way, I would keep fingers off the cannula. The same principle that if you drop a brand new IV catheter with the protective plastic still on, it still needs to be discarded.

Use gloves, remove tourniquet before withdrawing the stillet and pressure to be applied at the tip of the cannula to prevent the spillage of blood
