Thanks Leo. I met you at RA last fall and forgot to tell you just how much a fan I am. I am running Sebring with Chin next weekend and combining a trip to mom. I too will be watching again and again to get ready for my first time at Sebring with track prepped Boxster S. Let this count as 100 watches for appreciating the lack of burning rubber in the corners, but instead collecting marbles from repetitive fast, clean laps. Please keep doing what you're doing.
Drive is everything I could ask for, even more infact! The features are outstanding and brimming with personal accounts and lots of information. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best channel on RUclips.
Leo, You're the man!!! Don't be so angry. You are the perfect guy for the job. Sometimes the news just isn't that exciting. Keep your head up and keep up the good work.
i can honestly say i'm a racing fan, not the type that pays attention to the names, faces or stats not because i don't want to but simply because i don't as much as i respect that aspect of the sport. what i love about racing is this the incredible driving skill and the thought that goes into making a car go fast. my friends think we're a simpleton group but we know better. thanks for this awesome video
I Love the Show and the idea of the Show and being able to watch it whenever I have time.. Great Format! I LOVE CARS!! So Thank You! ALL! for putting this Show on the Air! I hope that advertisers FLOCK to this Show so that it nevers stops being aired! God Love Ya'll for putting this together for ALL of us to be able to enjoy!
Thank you leo! Thats was so much help, great advice. I am running at sebring this weekend at skip barber winter series with a mazda mx5 april 4,5,6. Ill be watching your video many many times and taking notes. Once again tank you! Ernesto hernandez
Hold your line, stay light touch on the wheel, keep looking where you want YOUR car to be heading. If car beside, see prior sentence. If car ahead, look through, don't get sucked into driving their line OR missing your reference points. If car behind, take the mirror glance before the corner brake point, then just drive YOUR car.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Being a racing fan, I appreciate your knowledge and insight. I hope that you aren't discouraged by whatever your views are. Please keep up the good work.
Great show! I like how you are really going in depth on Sebring. I don't know anyone else who covers a subject so thoroughly and I feel like I've really LEARNED some things here.
my teams first endurance race is at Sebring this year, ChumpCar Dec 31 can't wait thanks for the lesson I'll be watching it till I memorize everything.
Leo this channel is awesome and the screaming gets into this. You need your own show on speed or espn. Probably the Best Channel on youtube. Hope we get track notes for mid ohio one of these days.
Shakedown is what I spend most of my time watching funny enough. Road Testament gets some of my viewership but its usually a one off view. I watch it once and then move on. I think I have watched the Mcnish interview about 20 times. Its so good.
Great show Leo! The quick, snappy delivery in a nice change from the slow nature of modern reporting. Keep posting videos and we'll all keep watching.... Oh, and how about a show to point out the difference between race car and road car characteristics for trackday junkies?
with each week, i look forward to Shakedown much more than ANY other drive releases. Keep up the great work! As others have suggested, is there a chance u can give us a guide to how to start in the world of racing? assuming little or no prior knowledge from us... THANKS!
I wish we could watch the ELMS in the states. I'd like to see more P1 in the ALMS too but P2 will be very interesting to watch. The lap breakdown was great! Keep them coming.
Good video Parente. You compressed a lot of information into the tutorial. Not that I'll be racing there anytime soon but I like it. I'm looking forward to the Sears Point video.
Well done! Really hopping for/looking forward to seeing more of these especially the ones here in central/northern California - Sears Point/Laguna Seca/Thunderhill/Buttonwillow.
I'm not a race car driver. Damn do I wish I was, though, and watching something like this just makes it all that much more visceral. I came to drive because Farah, but Leo has become my favorite immediately.
On the in-car of Madison Snow, because he popped out and thought about passing on the inside going into turn 17 we missed seeing the true race line and braking points going into into 17… a very thrilling experience the first time you do it and get it right. search for a vim video of a really great lap of Sebring with Skip Barber Instructor Terry Earwood. I watched this every day the entire two weeks leading up to my first track day at Sebring.
Taking turn three in a Cup car is a lot different than in an ALMS prototype. To start the car Allan McNish drives has a lot more down force. but the main thing is that the engine is in the back in the cup car. Makes for a different kind of driving through that corner.
Leo, Awesome video. I love the in car views and being able to see the driver inputs as he reacts to the bumps. It would complete the package if you could get a pedal camera, so we could also see the heel-toe action as the drivers are maneuvering these tricky corners.
Sebring is a fun track, the bumps in 17 can be fun, but after 12 hours of it probably not so much. And like many tracks, when you get a corner right it feels amazing and you know it immediately. Turn 17 to Turn 1 are my two favorite places on the Sebring track when I get them right.
awesome! I see I was taking 4 wrong. In my Toyota MR2 I was going to wide and trying to apex late. I will try the middle when we race there in the fall!
Leo you do an amazing job, very informative videos...and nobody speaks as fast about cars as you:) True fans matter more than views... Take care, your german fb-buddy Guido TheGetawayer
That "Chevy" is the Zeta platform designed by Holden for the Commodore, then used in Pontiac G8, Chevy Caprice etc etc. Leo just take a gander of a Holden V8 Supercar and check the similarities ;)
I'd love to see a Shakedown about racing transmissions. Differences, similarities between each other and road transmissions, load ratings, gear cuts, gearing changes, etc... and that *amazing* whining noise you always hear from those dog gears.
Does the Porsche IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge come to the Nürburgring? If so, do you feel up to giving driving tips about a 20km track? What about Spa Francorchamps? I'm planning trip to both tracks, so I wouldn't mind a little help.
+1 for amazing content. wish it didn't cut abruptly. I hope Leo does this for every track on ALMS. Only criticism is that someone should tell him to sit on his hands while he talks, he looks like he is trying to "sign" what he is saying because he moves his hands so much.
personally I liked it better when we took turn 7 all the way down to the end because it was a optimal passing turn & showed who had the biggest balls to outbrake the other getting in there, even though the front end plowed a little on inital turn in.
Great video Leo! If you want data from my 2011 GT3 Cup (IMSA car) for Sears Point, let me know.. I've done 3 test days there so far this year. Another one coming up next friday with JvO. :-) -mike
3:20 thats an anustralian holden commodore, which is about to be replaced by some american car in australia. it would suck if we lost it and you guys gain it, it is an iconic car over here
+ For anyone out there really interested in doing track days, but may not have the budget right now. I strongly recommend seeking out your local autocross club (check scca) IMO it is a great step to prepare yourself for the move up to driving road courses. Everything you've seen on shakedown university can be applied to autocrossing and everything you learn in autocrossing can be translated to driving a road course.
I am too poor to buy a computer or a wheel. I want to drive faster and I am learning the best I can. I don't even have a drivers licence. I don't really even like cars. I just like the sport and the challenge and the philosophy behind racing. Thanks.
This is was drives me to DRIVE ; amazing content Leo , Thank You But here's a question , where can one watch these races Leo is talking about ; World Touring , Italian Touring, European Le Mans and WRC. All SPEED provides is more Nascar and DSOW (Dumb Stuff on Wheels) :-/ Anyone with suggestions?
Leo first of all you are Leo... thats what makes you awesome. The next thing is you are alot more serious than the others try using your audience maybe making interactive videos or try surveys Derek D on the other hand makes up to the lack of specialness with his funny way. You had alot of good and informativ videos try to make them more entertaining. again greetings from germany
*Flies Aussie flag* Leo, you forgot the Tasmanian round of the V8 Supercars! Very important round where the bridesmaid team of Ford Performance Racing can prove to everyone that the factory team is back in business and can put their 3 cars all in the top 5.
Leo why show us a lap on a gt3 car? we will never drive one of those so it makes more sense doing a normal car lap dont it? also doesnt racing lines change depending on the car type? lets say i own a fwd car shouldn't i use a different racing line? not even speaking about accel/brake times. great job btw i love FLD
Jeez, too many races THIS weekend. The 'hated' pre-Sebring intro would have been 10 minutes. Just gave the highlight races [notice no Indy], then will cover what was cool as to results on Monday. As such, maybe WSBK.
Actually, I didn't watch either of their shows yet. I find Chris's show bland and boring (but the cars are great). Alex is a great guy and I prefer his more. But you're a racer at heart and get more technical and in depth about racing and the sport, which I like the most. Keep it up buddy, you might not have the view count, but you definitely have the most interesting content!
Shakedown is my favorite part of DRIVE. Let the haters hate. Those of us who recognize and appreciate what Leo does, enjoy it thoroughly. Great stuff.
Thanks Leo. I met you at RA last fall and forgot to tell you just how much a fan I am. I am running Sebring with Chin next weekend and combining a trip to mom. Ernesto hernandez
By far the best show on Drive.
love the breakdown of sebring! Can't wait to hear this from all the tracks. Great feature!!!
Love your show Leo, definitely the best one on Drive, don't care that much about the other guys. Racing rules over all, keep up the good work.
Another great and insightful shakedown video....we need more of this type of coverage please on the different racing venues ...F1, WRC, etc.
Great episode Leo, as usual. You're raising the bar with every episode.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Being a racing fan, I appreciate your knowledge and insight. I hope that you aren't discouraged by whatever your views are. Please keep up the good work.
I love the "what to watch this weekend" segment. I hope it stays consistent.
Great show! I like how you are really going in depth on Sebring. I don't know anyone else who covers a subject so thoroughly and I feel like I've really LEARNED some things here.
The connection between the in car for turn 13 and the McNish interview was awesome guys. I felt like I really got it there
my teams first endurance race is at Sebring this year, ChumpCar Dec 31 can't wait thanks for the lesson I'll be watching it till I memorize everything.
Leo this channel is awesome and the screaming gets into this. You need your own show on speed or espn. Probably the Best Channel on youtube. Hope we get track notes for mid ohio one of these days.
Glad to be able to help ;-)
It's used to avoid locking the rear differential and decrease wear on the transmission.
Shakedown is what I spend most of my time watching funny enough. Road Testament gets some of my viewership but its usually a one off view. I watch it once and then move on. I think I have watched the Mcnish interview about 20 times. Its so good.
chris is one of the best drivers around and has better reviews than most if not all car review videos on youtube
Loved it!!! Appreciated all the great technical information. I'll be looking forward to more episodes like this coming up in the future.
Great show Leo! The quick, snappy delivery in a nice change from the slow nature of modern reporting. Keep posting videos and we'll all keep watching.... Oh, and how about a show to point out the difference between race car and road car characteristics for trackday junkies?
This helped me drive a quick lap on forza :)
with each week, i look forward to Shakedown much more than ANY other drive releases. Keep up the great work! As others have suggested, is there a chance u can give us a guide to how to start in the world of racing? assuming little or no prior knowledge from us... THANKS!

Good video Parente. You compressed a lot of information into the tutorial. Not that I'll be racing there anytime soon but I like it. I'm looking forward to the Sears Point video.
First class video lesson, thank you Leo.
Great work Leo! My only desire is to see you on track and analyzing the laps!
This was really interesting, I hope to see more of these in the future. Good job Leo.
Thank you, that was a very insightful, useful and intelligent comment, and it contributes to the video argument.
Best one yet thanks Leo. And by the way, your voice is growing on
SHAKEDOWN is BY FAR the BEST segment on drive!!!! Thumb if you agree
YES!!! Don't change your style. You're doing a good job and I love the information ;)
On the in-car of Madison Snow, because he popped out and thought about passing on the inside going into turn 17 we missed seeing the true race line and braking points going into into 17… a very thrilling experience the first time you do it and get it right. search for a vim video of a really great lap of Sebring with Skip Barber Instructor Terry Earwood. awesome as always Leo! Great!
Yea, Subie BRZ! Had SGT in my notes and forgot the mention. Good catch.
I would love to see footage of turn 7 in it's previous configurations!
Taking turn three in a Cup car is a lot different than in an ALMS prototype. To start the car Allan McNish drives has a lot more down force. but the main thing is that the engine is in the back in the cup car. Makes for a different kind of driving through that corner.

Leo you are the man.
Good video, nice walkthrough. Skip to 5:00 unless you want news on the 2012 WTC and BTC race seasons.
4:56 YOUR WELCOME THIS GUY IS SO TALKY!!1
leo parente you crazy bugger.
love the vids, great job everybody!
Leo please make whole episode about F1 rules, overtaking stuff with drs/kers what you think about all that stuff!
Nice, I like these track tip videos, I'd suggest a graphic to show throttle and braking or at the very least what gear he is in, but overall, awesome
I love this channel.
awesome! I see I was taking 4 wrong. In my Toyota MR2 I was going to wide and trying to apex late. I will try the middle when we race there in the fall!
good stuff Leo!
Leo is the best.
No! CH is a good guy doing great shows.
Don't ask me how it supposed to, but it is designed in a manner where the use of the clutch on the downshift helps preserve the clutch.
Leo you do an amazing job, very informative videos...and nobody speaks as fast about cars as you:)
True fans matter more than views...

LEO KNOWS!
I'd love to see a Shakedown about racing transmissions. Differences, similarities between each other and road transmissions, load ratings, gear cuts, gearing changes, etc... and that *amazing* whining noise you always hear from those dog gears.
Thanks a lot for this vid, i love this show and i learn a lot here... Thaaaaaaanks
I second that. On screen telemetry would be awesome.
I love the teaching.
Leo - How about you document a trip up to Laguna Seca for ALMS in May? Give us the same informative show in a different setting!
I like you Leo, i'm learning with yours vids.
Does the Porsche IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge come to the Nürburgring? If so, do you feel up to giving driving tips about a 20km track? What about Spa Francorchamps? I'm planning trip to both tracks, so I wouldn't mind a little help.

Great insight, Leo. How about some Euro tracks?
Great video Leo! If you want data from my 2011 GT3 Cup (IMSA car) for Sears Point, let me know.. I've done 3 test days there so far this year. Another one coming up next friday with JvO. :-)

World Superbike at Imola! Leo! WSBK!
3:20 thats an anustralian holden commodore, which is about to be replaced by some american car in australia. it would suck if we lost it and you guys gain it, it is an iconic car over here
This is why I watch drive. I like chris harris on cars, and tolerate tuned, but I LOVE shakedown.
+ For anyone out there really interested in doing track days, but may not have the budget right now. I strongly recommend seeking out your local autocross club (check scca)

lets go watch the lap - best thing you said all video :)

Anyone with suggestions?
I know this was shot a few days ago but there were 2 Audi's at Barber this weekend #babysteps
Shakedown University should do the "two roads to heaven"...aka ROAD ATLANTA AND ROAD AMERICA!!! ;)
Over here in the UK most of it's on Motors TV and ESPN but i assume you don't have that so i guess internet streaming?
you have to match revs to get the cogs to mesh without grinding them ( no syncros)
This was cool stuff.
I love racing!!!!!
that new chevy is a Holden Commodore, no doubt about it
Leo first of all you are Leo... thats what makes you awesome. again greetings from germany
VirtuaLM has an awesome freeware version of Sebring for rFactor.
Awesome!
Do this for Nurburgring! plz
Probably could have done with only 2 full laps of Sebring instead of 3, but great work!
*Flies Aussie flag*
Leo, you forgot the Tasmanian round of the V8 Supercars! Very important round where the bridesmaid team of Ford Performance Racing can prove to everyone that the factory team is back in business and can put their 3 cars all in the top 5.
Cool video. Oughta be useful next time I play Forza 4.
I JUST REALIZED SUPER GT STARTS THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!! MUST TORRENT!
Awesome.
I think we need florescent greet t-shirts that say "Leo Knows!" on it
I've seen that lap a few times now, did he get past him later?
Leo why show us a lap on a gt3 car? we will never drive one of those so it makes more sense doing a normal car lap dont it? also doesnt racing lines change depending on the car type? lets say i own a fwd car shouldn't i use a different racing line? not even speaking about accel/brake times. great job btw i love FLD
