Kelly has one of the most amazing gifts any vocalist can have: she can sing anything. If she feels she can handle rock who are we to criticize her choice. Rock does tax the voice but there are rock stars today with great voices bands like U2, Daughtry, Nickelback, etc. This video proves the blessing God has given her.
I know. She changes her vowels in such a way that she literally mimics the gorgeous female voices from the 1920s-1950s. Did with it Stuff Like That There, among others. I NEED a whole album of jazz standards in this style from her.
I just heard this and I can't say enough about Kelly's talent. She loves all different types of music. And besides loving it all, she can sing it all. I once heard Tony Bennett sing this song the same rendition as KC did. Too bad they didn't do a duet!!!!!
Kelly really did a lovely job at that show. I'm sure she impressed quite a few people who are not that familiar with her. I love how versatile she is. She really can sing any genre.
Am I the only one who wants Kelly to sing Some Where Over The Rainbow? She is one I could think of that would do great cover of the song. She would not only sing it beautifully but put some much emotion into it. She is underrated. It's shame to. Kelly is amazing artist.
She sang for Reba (country queen) on CMT Crossroads and went on tour with her. Listen to "Kelly Clarkson The greatest man I never knew" or "Kelly Clarkson Why haven't I heard from you."
What's truly amazing about Kelly is that she still does not realize the effect that her voice has on people. She dosen't hear what we hear. That's probably what makes her better and better everytime.
not to mention, we should be happy that someone in mainstream music can actually sing. 95% of mainstream singers can't sing live, let alone sing with kelly's range...Also watch kelly singing the song "because of You" for tony bennett. She has great lyrical interpretation skills.
There's no one like Kelly Clarkson. Her dynamic and beautiful voice, her great stage presence, the emotion she puts into a song, her interpretation of the music. She is so super talented and she writes her own music. At the age of 16 to write "Because of You". Her "My December" was brilliant. She is a true artist!!!
trust me, nothing would make me happier if we had more soul/jazz/standards type of singing. Kelly could rule that world if she wanted (in the contemporary world that is). Christina's album had elements of jazz but her voice was still power pop ballad diva. Kelly has the smokiness and dark timbre to pull it off authentically.
@DeoMoto thats some bs. Kelly really should be #1 on that list. She can literally sing ANYTHING with no struggle. SHe makes any genre suit her voice so perfectly, and all the covers she sings, she adds her own special touch to make it sound even better than the original. She wows me everytime, never sings a bad note. Therefor it is clearly obvious that she has the best voice in the music industry...I mean 8 years later in the music industry, Kelly is even better than ever!
Jeez, do you not know that this performance was filmed just 6 months ago in Nov '06? Kelly obviously has NOT ruined her voice as I'm sure everyone can hear. I also watched her sing w/ The Wreckers recently and her voice was great as usual.
I never said Kelly was not the best vocals of our generation. Judy Garlend is not in our generation. Not even close. Kelly is one of my favorite artists. I love her voice.
LOL. And thanks to you for not responding to my response that way either. I'm sure both of these singers would admire each other, if they don't already.
It cracks me up that fans of a certain singer say that that singer is more verstaile and can sing every genre. Please I don't know what they are smoking but that singer can not sing evey genre. If they wanna here a singer who can sing every genre listen to Kelly right here or other videos. That other singer couldn't pull this off. Kelly proves why she is the most verstaile singer out there. And yes Kelly is THE BEST singer of our time. She is so underrated in today's music, what a shame.
American Idol definitely got lucky having Kelly Clarkson during its first season and her making it as the winner. During the season she showed she was extremely versatile (I vaguely remember her doing a great rendition of a Broadway tune). Kelly's busy doing her independent rock thing, but hopefully as she gets older she'll turn to other forms of music.
that was a duet, this is a solo rendition. That was sung in the past, probably the 50's, kelly's version has more tempo and a big band feel..Of course they will be different. It is simply a different interpretation.
Being able to sing another genre is taxing in itself. We should give her constructive criticism, like techniques on maintaining her voice with the shouting, not judging her personal choice. No one tell us that we're doing the wrong job. We'd be very upset with that. Why are people doing it to her? She deserves encouragment. She's living her dream, how many of us are doing the same?
If you look at some of the clips of earler versions - Ella Fitzgerald/Nat King Cole, Brenda Lee - they're all in an upbeat tempo. I don't know what the original Tony Bennett version sounded like (can't find it online), but I think this song lends itself very well to a fast tempo. And I believe Miss Clarkson was asked to sing this song by Tony himself. Could she say "No"? ; )
@lizzyvance Yeah I have seen that video of her singing Ave Marie which is just flawless and that note she hits at the end is amazing. I wish I could do that. And I agree too about the emotion she puts in her performances. I love like how angry she gets in songs like Never Again then the next song she makes you cry when she sings songs like Because of You or That I Would Be Good.
@carolinagirl009 I know. It’s just amazing to see what she can do live. Kelly is one of my favorite performers. The best thing about her is not only her beautiful voice but the emotion she puts in her performence. She is defiantly most versatile but such good performer. I love the way Kelly sang Ave Marie. If you have not seen it you have to. She did incredible job in my opinion. I wish she would get more credit for how good she is.
well, christina;s album sold well, and if kelly opted to matket her album to some of the older folks with duets with people like tony bennet and others of the era, she could bring back the age of jazz. i would sure listen to her a lot more. not to say i dont listen to her now, but i sure do wish she had an album in the same genre of this song. she and her studio/record co. friends could make this work.
Kelly can sing ANYTHING... honestly... the only time I've ever heard her sound bad was at the MTVVMA a couple years ago, and she was losing her voice and sounded horrid... otherwise I've never heard her sound anything but AMAZING!!!!!!!
I hope "Brenda Lee and her sister Peggy" is meant to convey "sisters" in a musical sense, for they surely were not biological sisters. I for one find Kelly's voice refreshing in a world of no-talents like Brittney Spears & Jessica Simpson or over-the-top vocal gymnasts like Christina Aguilera. Kelly's voice is strong, clear and controlled with a pleasing tone and a certain charm to it. I think she did a great job for a young woman singing out of her comfort zone. I'm sure Tony was delighted.
Based on your comment, I was curious to hear another version. Ms. Murphy does a great job, but I would classify her more as a vocal stylist than a singer. Her version seems just past spoken word heading towards singing. Very smokey and moody and very effective. But if you're looking for a more melodic and punchy version, Kelly's is the one to go with.
yes people have heard of those singers. Again, comparing "old singers" to contemporary singers do not make sense. Different vocal techniques because of a different musical era. Most singers back then sang softly and just sang the melody, then around the 80's everyone wanted to sing with power.
You do have a point. Kelly really takes off with the melody etc. I guess if you rather the "deeper" more "moving" type of stuff Roisin is better. Kelly just doesn't have enough ... je ne sais quoi for me. But I see your point and thank you for not responding like an idiot like many other youtubers -.-
also carrotcompany..just curious what do you think of kelly when she sang stuff like that there? RUclips "kelly clarkson stuff like that there" You don't think she is interpreting the song correctly?
@carolinagirl009 Another thing I like about Kelly is she does not overdo her singing it’s just perfect. I was watching battle video with her and another singer. Pretty much all I heard with other singer was oohhhhyeeeeaaaa. It was very annoying to hear. Lol
I hope her next album is a little more versatile musically. The rock thing kicks butt, but I think America needs to be reminded that she can sing EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!
oh come on. her management organised the tour that was cancelled and kelly prefers smaller intimate performances. i dont like ppl who chat wat they dont know!
she needs to sing more of this and "breakaway" (haha)from the rock stuff that's damaging her voice. She sounds good either way, but i'm oldfashioned, and i love when she sange stuff like that there
@carlys011 i know i am agreeng with him .. I think its BS that she didnt make the list. She should be #1 on the list, therefor i agree with his comment. how on earth did she not make the list??? =(
I agree with carrie. Carrot I love all those singers you named, including Joni Mitchell and Karen Carpenter, and it is obviously you dislike kelly. However, you didn't have to call us "airheads" or "girls." It was uncalled for. We like kelly and see her talent, you don't. Let's all leave it at that and stop arguing. Good Day.
Also kelly's weight is irrelevant to music. Ella was heavy, and so was aretha franklin and many other singers. Who cares how singers look. I think you are just in that mode where everything in the past=better. Nobody sounds like connie francis and brenda lee anymore, just like nobody sounded like Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson in the 1960's. Appreciate diversity. All these women have gifts, just in different ways.
Thats my point. she went from head voice/operaish musicals in high school to some easier, low belt demos, then into american idol, where she had recurring laryngitis, and then no voice by the end. she got it back, but loses it consistently now because of my december. if she reverted to songs like on christinas new album, sbhe would be an instant hit, and clive davis would not want to shelf the album
Kelly has one of the most amazing gifts any vocalist can have: she can sing anything. If she feels she can handle rock who are we to criticize her choice. Rock does tax the voice but there are rock stars today with great voices bands like U2, Daughtry, Nickelback, etc. This video proves the blessing God has given her.
i absolutely love her voice on these kind of songs.
I know. She changes her vowels in such a way that she literally mimics the gorgeous female voices from the 1920s-1950s. Did with it Stuff Like That There, among others. I NEED a whole album of jazz standards in this style from her.

Oh thanks so much!
I was so confused, I looked for ages for pictures.
shes sooo cool, her voice is just soo natural
she sounds amaizing singing everything
Am I the only one who wants Kelly to sing Some Where Over The Rainbow? She is one I could think of that would do great cover of the song. She would not only sing it beautifully but put some much emotion into it. She is underrated. It's shame to. Kelly is amazing artist.
Liz de carlo yes on everything.
She sang for Reba (country queen) on CMT Crossroads and went on tour with her. Listen to "Kelly Clarkson The greatest man I never knew" or "Kelly Clarkson Why haven't I heard from you."
ahh beautiful! she suits jazz really well
What's truly amazing about Kelly is that she still does not realize the effect that her voice has on people.
Bless whoever recorded this.
She can sing anything. Truly beautiful voice. I would like her to record a big band album.
She finished recording ALL the songs in late September/October.
Amazing!
SHE IS THE BOMB
how can you say that she didnt do a remarkable job.. she is awesome.. her voice sounded great..
trust me, nothing would make me happier if we had more soul/jazz/standards type of singing. Kelly could rule that world if she wanted (in the contemporary world that is). Christina's album had elements of jazz but her voice was still power pop ballad diva. Kelly has the smokiness and dark timbre to pull it off authentically.
has kelly sing any other tribute. AMAZING
Simply amazing!
@DeoMoto thats some bs. Kelly really should be #1 on that list. She can literally sing ANYTHING with no struggle. Therefor it is clearly obvious that she has the best voice in the music industry...I mean 8 years later in the music industry, Kelly is even better than ever!
Wow! Amazing! If anyone doubts Kelly's singing ability, they should see this performance! I barely recognized her! A true bonafide talent!
omg sooo good.
Go for it. Are you her publicist? ; )
Kelly needs to make a jazz album.
7 people are insane and can't appreciate true artistry...
This song shows how versatile Kelly really is.
Favolosaaa!
Che potenza e che brillantezza, unite a un'estensione invidiabile.
Definitely the best versatile singer ever.
@carolinagirl009
I agree. Have you heard her sing Waiting for My Dearie in Brigadoon when she was younger?
Jeez, do you not know that this performance was filmed just 6 months ago in Nov '06? Kelly obviously has NOT ruined her voice as I'm sure everyone can hear. I also watched her sing w/ The Wreckers recently and her voice was great as usual.
I never said Kelly was not the best vocals of our generation. Judy Garlend is not in our generation. Not even close. Kelly is one of my favorite artists. I love her voice.
She's so amazing that it even doesn't sound like her.

i would get her jazz album if she did. that would rock...
First thing I heard her sing that I kind of enjoyed. PS this song is by Cole Porter, not Tony Bennett.
Kelly wasn't really at the Emmy's . The had a nomination for the American Idol Finale and they showed kelly signing "Sgt Pepper" for le 10secondes .
that was a duet, this is a solo rendition. That was sung in the past, probably the 50's, kelly's version has more tempo and a big band feel..Of course they will be different. It is simply a different interpretation.
What did she looks like at the Emmy's?

I MEAN QUEEN

yes its Cole Porter' song...
but this her version rules!!
but i cant find a good quality version mp3(at least 190kbps )
what a voice
@lizzyvance Yeah I have seen that video of her singing Ave Marie which is just flawless and that note she hits at the end is amazing. I wish I could do that. And I agree too about the emotion she puts in her performances. I love like how angry she gets in songs like Never Again then the next song she makes you cry when she sings songs like Because of You or That I Would Be Good.
Nobody has belted out a Cole Porter song like that since Ethel Merman. I think she could have a great career singing from the Great American Songbook.
what an incredible singer! one of the best, of not THE BEST, singers of our time.
@carolinagirl009

I hope "Brenda Lee and her sister Peggy" is meant to convey "sisters" in a musical sense, for they surely were not biological sisters. but there isn't a market for pop-jazz songs/big band-ish songs.
You do realize...this was recorded just after she recorded My December? When her voice was at its worst?
Sounds like she listens to Ella. Which is alright with me ;)
yes people have heard of those singers. Again, comparing "old singers" to contemporary singers do not make sense. Different vocal techniques because of a different musical era. Most singers back then sang softly and just sang the melody, then around the 80's everyone wanted to sing with power.

You don't think she is interpreting the song correctly?
wow look at kelly wearing heals! never thought id see the day xx
@carolinagirl009
Another thing I like about Kelly is she does not overdo her singing it’s just perfect. I was watching battle video with her and another singer. Pretty much all I heard with other singer was oohhhhyeeeeaaaa. It was very annoying to hear. Lol
she reminds me of judy garlend. noone can beat her on over the rainbow. she is amazing. but kelly could come close. KELLY is the versile queem.. BEST
I hope her next album is a little more versatile musically. The rock thing kicks butt, but I think America needs to be reminded that she can sing EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!
Shes sounds a bit like Bethany Joy Galoetti from One tree hill!! Love them both! :)
what other cover songs have kelly done?
Roisin Murphy does the best version of this.
oh come on. her management organised the tour that was cancelled and kelly prefers smaller intimate performances. i dont like ppl who chat wat they dont know!
she needs to sing more of this and "breakaway" (haha)from the rock stuff that's damaging her voice. She sounds good either way, but i'm oldfashioned, and i love when she sange stuff like that there
Fabulous. But why did the orchestra play the ending to 'I Am Changing' from Dreamgirls?
@carlys011 i know i am agreeng with him .. I think its BS that she didnt make the list. She should be #1 on the list, therefor i agree with his comment. how on earth did she not make the list??? =(

serously, is there ANYTHING at all Kelly can sing that wont sound absolutely perfect?!
Ok ;)
She could sing the phonebook and I would pay to hear it!!! Freakin' Amaaazzzzing!!!
lets see Carrie Underwood do this
Also kelly's weight is irrelevant to music. Ella was heavy, and so was aretha franklin and many other singers. Who cares how singers look. @lizzyvance Yes, I have. It's amazing. That girl definitely has a gift and is here on this Earth for a reason. :)
Is the zoom broken? I mean seriously!!!
I agree 1000% I can't see many artist singing this type of song so on point or so well including Leona, Carrie, Beyonce, Christina etc.
Bye CarrotCompany
@DeoMoto and Christina is like 21 lol and tey wrote that she influenced kelly.. when i read it i was like WTF.. and i am an xtina fan
lol
Thats my point. she went from head voice/operaish musicals in high school to some easier, low belt demos, then into american idol, where she had recurring laryngitis, and then no voice by the end. she got it back, but loses it consistently now because of my december. if she reverted to songs like on christinas new album, sbhe would be an instant hit, and clive davis would not want to shelf the album
