I like that they show that neither the Atreides nor the Harkonnens are good people. It’s like the Hatfield and the McCoys, two families whose hatred for each other have existed for generations.
I like how neither families are monoliths either, some members are more ambitious and ruthless than others (e.g. Vorian and Valya/Tula) and it shows how those members are endangering their more reasonable relatives.
I am curious if Desmond Hart is somehow an Atreides. Also talk about the Game of Thrones flashback to the Harkonnen family and getting Mark Addy from Game of Thrones as the dad is just great. That present ending with him being alive is just awesome. Also the formation of the 3 members of the sisterhood with introducing Tabu's character Francesca is a perfect setup for her to appear since she is a former love interest to Mark Strong's character. The flashback to Tula Harkonnen and seeing her sacrificing the life she wanted for revenge against the Atreides clan says it's the hardest decision she had to make as a promise she didn't want to break.
It seemed like Tula didn't actually know she was going to be able have that life. When she came clean about her real family she found out she could have that life and Orry didn't care about her family name but it was too late because she had already poisoned his family.
This episode made me feel so bad for Tula because you realize that Valya had been bullying her since they were kids and Tula just wants her approval so badly

The Atreides are just as much the villains of the Dune universe as are the Harkkonens, or the Corrinos, that was the entire point of the moral arc Frank Herbert told.
Really this was a favorite episode for you guys??? Maybe i was tired tonight but i felt like the plot got a bit too convoluted and confusing going back and forth, i get what they are getting at with valya and her motivations but i felt it took forever for them to make their points
I found this episode entertaining in a vacuum but confusing as the third of six. Young Valya is deeply unlikable to me in a way that nearly tarnishes the older version, so I'm confused why we're spending so much time with her. It's less the actor and more the writing & directing for young Valya. It also feels like her being unlikable is intentional, since her own parents were saying, "UGH why did you invite her back home, Tula???". I was asking the same question, lol. Hopefully we're done with major flashbacks.
It's interesting to me that men who dislike this show reveal that they dislike women in positions of power and influence. They _love_ The Handmaid's Tale though. Figures.
Understandable, but not necessarily. It is perhaps that they just can’t get into the show because maybe they don’t care enough about the universe or maybe it’s too dark for them as well.
@flyknit504 except if it were those things, wouldn't they say that? That isn't what I've been seeing in comments here and elsewhere. The cast is mostly women therefore it's a show "for women," they don't like how "the witches" are "controlling" men, women can't be trusted, blah blah blah.
I hope women are enjoying this show. It’s made for them, not me. I want to see more action. More game of thrones early seasons. No one will remember this show when it’s done. It’s even adapted Dune lore that book fans didn’t like. Unfortunate waste of opportunity.
Your fear and distrust of women will disqualify you from EVER have a relationship with a woman that isn't purely transactional. I'd feel sorry for you except I'm too busy being relieved for the women you'll never date.

Great review, great episode, excellent festive shirt Coy!!!
Just to clarify also they aren’t known as the Bene Gesserit yet theyre still just the sisterhood by this point
Great world building ! Can’t wait for episode 4 of Dune Prophecy

I think he may actually be the great grandfather Atreides the one who killed her brother

My favorite episode so far.

I get up at 5 and leave at 7 for work and watch all my stuff in the AM and it has really made a difference.
inventive action, havent heard that before, gonna start using it. great feedback, i wonder if we'll see more of the decay of her home world
SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON PEOPLE! This view to like ratio aint hittin.
I think Desmond Hart is Tula’s son (Her and Orry Atreides son).

So are these witches not the Ben gesserit from the movies?
They are but they're not known with that name yet

This show is a solid 6 or 7. Just finished reading God Emperor of Dune, and I’m waiting for that adaptation 😅
I hope we get that one day but because of how insane it is i dont think we will
Ok clown,
I haven’t read the books but i really enjoyed the two recent movies. I’m kinda bored with the show so far though.

the whole atreides massacre was kinda cringe.
Tula is typical women, crying and stabbing you in the back lol.

@@IndomitableAde Good luck buddy, just watch your back. Nah its always transactional women are shallow asf.
This back and forth took me out lol idk what’s up with this show it’s good in moments and too far in between
It’s geared toward more intelligent viewers 😂
Maybe stick to pro wrestling and South Park instead. Easier to follow and understand for people like you. 😂😂

But you needed to post this for the attention tho? 😂😂

Great theory
