  • Today I'm going to show you how to get Microsoft to stop spying on you. Many people use scripts and programs to disable telemetry in windows 10 and 11 but I'm going to show you how to do it manually so you know which settings to change.

they also not only use microsofts automatic update, anti virus and windows firewall
they also use common software that have such abilities such as nvidia software (can auto update without asking)
here whatsapp used to spy silently someones smartphone:

it dont need to ring the phone or haveing the display activated

I usually uninstall programs like OneDrive, Cortana and Edge Browser using an uninstaller like Revo because it also checks and removes leftover folders and registry files. It will create a restore point for you too.I had done many of the steps mentioned here, but others like task scheduler and the regedit settings I did not. I am creating a restore point after your suggested settings as well. Thanks for this informative tutorial and explaining things clearly instead of just linking to a script that doesn't tell you exactly what is being done. Much appreciated.

Thanks for sharing a step-by-step process without using scripts or programs. If you are running Win 10/11 Pro, can you specify a policy instead of using regedit? Is a policy permanent (not affected by Microsoft updates)? BTW, can you make these changes by defining a policy?

    • @CyberCPU
      @CyberCPU  2 года назад +17

Yes you can change this setting in group policy editor. However, I don't like going to group policy editor because a lot of people have the home version and editing the registry works in all the versions of windows.
I've tested this with many different systems in this setting does not revert with Windows update. I've even made the setting in 2004 and upgraded to 21H2 and the setting stay the same. So editing the registry is permanent.

The reason people use the scripts or programs to do it, is because it changes settings system wide. In Win 10, if you uninstall things like One Drive or other MS apps, when the next build is installed they come back. You need to deprovision the package to prevent it from re-installing.

I do not trust turning off Windows defender.... If you turn it off... Usually it ALWAYS turns itself back on.... Idk if that's the same case for Win 11 or not but I usually have to disable defender from Local Group Policy Editor to make the changes stick (Win 10).... But I'm aware that not every version of Win 10 (or possibly 11) comes with policy editor..... I know home versions of windows do not get this amazing tool!

Great Fix! been using these recommendations for a few days now and my windows system is still running smooth. Which isn't always the case when it comes to those scripts you mentioned in the beginning of the video. Now I'm using a MS account for my login and I have a MS 365 subscription that came with my PC from Microsoft. For cloud storage I do still use OneDrive in the cloud not on my desktop or file system and I keep find my device turned on just in case. Now I would like to note I use a VPN with a permeant Kill Switch meaning an App can't just bypass it I have to shut that off if I want the Windows Store to load. If I wanted and need total privacy though I would just switch to Linux but I am still happy i can cut out MS seeing what I'm doing across applications

Well, it's really simple. Turning the options of stops Windows from sending data to Microsoft and it's partners without your consent. I have done a 'Start menu' quick search for 'Diagnostics & feedback', however re-direct back to the same place. Yet again MS have moved, renamed, or hidden/buried useful things some-where¿.
So more clicking, RegEdit, shell::{shortcuts} to get to basic settings (:Shacks-Head: at MS).
Apart from the 'Bubble/Plastic UI' they have been trying to push since WinXP, has been none to very little performance improvements.
The Win10 Live title and non-grouped taskbar application helpful for day to day workflow.
Win11 Dark UI Color (notepad, explore windows) great, however the workflow/outlay usable.
MS features for a long-time in the OS and apps have been add and removed due to performance issues (Office Word Paper-clip helper) or very a small amount of people using then, however what do you think bloat-ware dose and is!.
MS need to under-standard they will get not get real user data using telemetry, if they plan to drive the company design/workflow for their OS from telemetry.
as those whom turn it off are more adapted to using a computer for there personal workflow (if/when allowed).
If MS plan to drive the company design/workflow for their OS from telemetry, they need to under-standard those whom turn it off/change setting are more adapted to using a computer for there personal workflow (if/when allowed).
With this much tweaking and third-party software its time to move to Linux full-time.
Where an update will not revert my settings, place more ads, install unwanted apps, pay for free apps on the MS store, and so on...

Good to explain this and show people where those settings are, but as you said, on the next Windows update they could all turn back on again. As an IT Pro, I haven't got time to do all this continually, so highly recommend O&O Shutup 10. Each setting (and there are hundreds) can be individually unchecked, or you can chose different levels of removal (recommended is usually enough). Then, one click and a reboot later and it's all done (you can also take recovery point backups before applying). Much easier for the average user, and it's free. Also, I'd recommend disabling the 'Connected User Experience and Telemetry' service (DiagTrack), which is one service that will stop tons of telemetry collection.

We can agree it's better than nothing, but sadly Windows Defender is not good enough. I just love your helpful tips. Microsoft have really irritated me to the point of locking them out of my computer. I also became so frustrated with Windows 10 updates corrupting my touch-pad & making things play up every time a prospective update was downloaded or a windows 11 prompt was downloaded, that i simply remove almost all downloads & updates now via deleting all the Software Distribution & my computer now works perfectly all the time & with zero complications & no update glitches any more. I feel Microsoft Free.

I was using MS local account till I started watching your videos. I went in and applied most of your suggestions. And then I screwed up when I created my own local account. I did it and it was successful but I forgot to do it as an administrator. Now, I'm trying to figure out if I can recover the MS local account so that I can correct my mistake. Is there any way to do this or am I screwed for good? I had important work related folders that I need and I can't seem to access them under my new local account. Any help would be greatly appreciated...🙏🙏

If you go to the Microsoft website it will tell you that clicking these things off turns it from checking it every time to some of the time. Like the first time you use that application is always sent to Microsoft, but not every time after that, just sometimes. Read carefully the description you are checking, because not giving you a benefit isn't a promise to not track. They even admit they can "accidentally" read your Office documents, when they check each one of them that you use macros in. That's pretty invasive.

Thanks always looking for more ways to Shut down on Microsoft.

12 minute sin when disabling, it told me i dont have permission, but then gave me a window that had the security feature for highest privileges, I feel like ive been looking for this all the time cause more recent versions of windows always requires you to need "admin permission" but I feel like that access should always be enabled for people who arent completely computer illiterate. but it wouldnt let me changes the privileges to disable tha task in the pop up window, IS THERE a way to change that to highest privilege, then go disable all these tasks regularly again???

Why the hell do they need advertisment Id in Windows🤬? Unless they are a free software to pay for the use of the software, then maybe..... But not on something you have to pay for a key to use ... Screw that! I'll stay with my Linux/Ubuntu... And yes it also can run on your smart phone as well

are you really a tech support, how about if there was a way to utilize and make windows 7 Home Premium, Pro, and Ultimate plus Enterprise Editions and use Win11 kb update Files which i have and you get the full experience of win7 but it uses the Win11 kb files updates and its running 22h2 without the TPM2.0, Secure Boot, CSM and Raid supported, it doesnt matter if you have UEFI on or CSM Legacy support, and yes it will also support instead of doing MBR and allow GPT on your HDD SSD etc. well as i was looking through the KB files and seeing when windows 7 and win8 went over to Win10 it also allowed there upgrades and updates and they used a hash code to change 1 thing and i just changed that hash code on Win7 and it also tells Microsoft system requirements all pass with amd Radeon HD 4200, Nvidia GT8800, Intel HD 2000 and AMD & intel 5th Gen cpu and still has supports even to this day and a bios update from Microsoft but i wouldnt recommend it cause the bios chip has to be removed from the motherboard and then put back on the board but yet you have all and no spy and no third party software its all from microsoft and all i did was download the ISO of Win10 and Win11 and if anyone has an Official Win7 with Service Pack1 this will work to grab all the info using PowerISO or MagicISO and then use a Rufus to make the Bootable ISO in a USB minimum 2.0 of just 12GB of Storage so a 16GB Flash drive is all you need and use Win7 even in 2023 and i tried this with the earlier build of Win11 and has Upgraded successfully and even took the chipsets supports from 2017 from both AMD and Intel i guess thats why microsoft in 2024 is trying to put out Windows 12 cause Win7 has Win11 properties!

Spying spying spying...is any company worse than ... Google? I think they're 'worse' than MS. It's all bad imho. So I have a question. I want to follow your methodology and install Windows 10 or 11 on my old acer V3 laptop (it had Windows 10 on it when I bought it (used) which I rolled back to Windows 7 SP1 with full wipe/format). So I can either bypass the requirement to use an MS account or perhaps (looking to the future) I will instead use my 'dead end' MS account that I made yesterday. So my question: I have a Hotmail account going back 20 years and it's my main account for e-mails. Will it be a problem to use it on my computer that's set up with my dead end MS account? I also use my Hotmail account to log-in to Office (which I've been using since 1989) occasionally (to access templates, etc) but don't usually log-in when I use Office. Any thoughts on this? I'm sure I'm not the only one in this quandary 🙂 Thanks, I really enjoy your videos and your awesome beard is re-facing nerds everywhere!

Rich, I have tried to implement these ideas on windows 10 pro (fresh install on an old Dell G3). I actually bought a pro key off of VIPscd-key.. had to do a work around to get the key to work... Didn't use a Microsoft account however windows 10 has not auto offered to update to windows 11, maybe because of the Microsoft account? So, while attempting to do the edits in reg edit I came across that the system states incorrect parameters when trying to click ok or apply. Perhaps I need to get windows 11 before these settings can be changed? Seriously your videos are the only reason I am considering running windows 11 over Linux PopOS.

I immediately blocked location microphone and camera etc, but then setting it up re-enabled location because if anyone ever steals it I can find it. You can't with it off. Does that really even work? Also, I def didn't set up a microsoft account but used my e-mail instead of their garbage they wanted to set me up with, or my phone number. Don't like that at all now. EDIT/Did all your great updates I missed and when I went back it renamed my computer because it took my personal info off. Thanks you! Your the best. Subscribing and checking out your other videos.

All these tweaks are good, but i wonder if anyone knows that any one if these could be changed *back* by a simple windows update...
Basically all your work, could be ruined.. No one would check after each update.. Its one thing saying "you can just change re-enable" but how many are there ? Suddenly it becomes too much, unless you out all this in a .reg file..
Would be convenient. Then just double-click to import all entries

What I'm getting now is annoying splash screen on bootup that wants me to "finalize windows setup". It has several things that I by-passed on the initial install. I keep getting this notice every 3 days. Annoying. How to turn that off too, please.

Without knowing if they cached your data on your system, it would be hard to know if one of their updates changed the settings automatically back to invasive, then sent all your data back to their servers while the recently updated remained in place. It should be known, down to the byte, how much data needs to be sent to Apple and Microsoft servers in order to receive the updates which could then be enforced at the firewall level.
