    I don't feel like music by bands or recording artists are the medium for atmos. It's already going there, but it seems like surround mixing is more geared towards video games and VR experiences. I think there's a lot of mixers trying to adopt this early because once we figure out the main channel that consumers are going to be wanting this experience, it's going to be a huge cash cow.

    Im just not sure if the phantom center works. 1st its the biggest difference from stereo to surround (5.1, 7.1. atmos). Just the dedicated center changes things not just for having "center" kind of sound. but the fact that its not playing from left and right and your processing the center not with left and right. The headroom is way different, bandwith is different phase is different .But hey if he likes it, then kudos. But for surround and going to atmos, I think the center is a very important thing, not just for having a sound coming from the center. audio that will clip with with just phantom center wont clip if it is sent directly to the center channel as its not sharing the dynamic range available to the left and right. But damn! that room sounds greats even on youtube.

    Nice place! The biggest hurdle for ATMOS is 2x: the file sizes of the master are insane (mp4 alternate is total trash) and apple spatial is NOT where it needs to be in order to represent it anywhere close to what it actually sounds like in a room. Apple spatial is a phasey mess, at best. We'll see how the tech develops!

      @@RockmannMusic Independant measurements by Erin's Audio Corner are online. I don't see anything dramatic. Do you ? They're not the cleanest speakers you'll find, but every speaker has its pros and cons. The 8C have an uncomparable low-end for their price, a super homogeneous dispersion, boundary coupled bass, integrated room correction and other tricks that make it unbeatable in non-optimal environements. I dare you to find cardioid speakers (from 100Hz upwards) with such bottom end and at only 10k€.

    • @RockmannMusic
      @RockmannMusic Год назад

      @@BoringVic Metal cone driver as found in the D&D and high distortion figures are a NO for me [personal preference. I'm also not a fan of our Focal BE Beryilium tweeter]. The 8C might be good for someone with space issues . . but I do not need to find cardiod speakers for "only" 10K. I'm good with a set of way cleaner playing Faital Pro 18" subs [come at the price that they are washing machine sized]

    • @BoringVic
      @BoringVic Год назад

      @@RockmannMusic What you say is interesting. I never said there was such things as the perfect speaker that match everyone needs. Speaker design is just trade-offs. Compacity agains bass extension, sensitivity against power handling, beautiful design against better components... Your Faital subs may sound good, but they don't make for a compact system, don't they ? Also, their esthetics may not be the taste of everyone. And one sub don't get you stereo subs. The Dutch do produce stereo, all the way down to 20Hz. YOU may not need cardioid speakers, but other people might find it useful. The 8C probably sound better in a standard living room than an expensive pair of ATC SCM25 with Faital 18 subs. So please, don't ditch a speaker because of one flaw (even though this one you're pointing out is quite minimal IMHO). There's no speaker that is better than any other speakers in every aspect, both in terms of sound and other aspects (esthetic, price, compacity, durability, weight, etc.).

    • @RockmannMusic
      @RockmannMusic Год назад

      @@BoringVic In general do agree with you. I have "stereo" subs because it's a pair of them. Btw A "stereo" field isn't notable in sub frequencies but notable in the region from 120HZ or so [stereo sub frequencies/ a "stereo" sub bass/kick can also cause phase issues, so in a mix I would have everything below 100Hz in mono] . It's great having speakers with high air pressure in sub frequencies but most consumer speakers are not that linear in the sub region. Means someones perfect D&D speaker mix [or name your quality speaker brand] will translate with way lower [sub] bass on consumer speakers that are 12dB down at 30HZ.

    What I don't understand is who Atmos is for? Is average Joe really going to bother with an Atmos system at home? Are people even watching movies or listening to music in "regular" surround sound any more? Hasn't audio history time and time again killed off any attempts to move away from the stereo experience? Aren't people in fact more and more listening to audio on some kind of summed mono device?

    Atmos, headphones, binaural: "it's not quite there yet".
    I suspected that. After many trials.
    And it's today the MAIN problem with atmos as almost nobody have the money for 12 speakers and the room to put them in..

    Personally I am not a fan of the Dolby Atmos audio. I do not like what it does to the kicks in hip hop music.
