As a black person that grew up in dangerous hoods and survived it's no way I'm going to Mexico for anything. That's not a vacation to me. I don't see any reason to go to Cancun. I don't have to see all of the world.
Having gotten an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and having lived in a US border town, these are the things you learn about. These things have been going on for years. The cartel do not allow for violence in these resort cities because it is bad for business. They even own clubs and bars on the Mexican border. It doesn't end there. They own restaurants and small businesses, they have politicians and police in their pockets in US border towns. They also own alot of real estate in the US. Almost anywhere in the US where Mexican communities exist, they have investments and ties to the community. There's a whole underworld going on behind the scenes that the majority of the population isn't even aware of. Drugs coming in to the US and money going South. We walk past people everyday, drive next to cars on the street, and are neighbors with people we would never suspect who are a part of this underworld. There are sweet old ladies with kilos in their houses, cars with compartments driving by us and drop offs taking place in garages and restaurants. It would blow your mind if you knew.

This guy is spot on! During the pandemic, I left the U.S. with a one-way ticket to Cancun. I ended up befriending a local, and it quickly became clear that the cartel's presence was everywhere-Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel, you name it. They keep tabs on everything (you can’t even SEE them because they look like normal people, older people, people with normal jobs, yet they’re wearing an earpiece). My friend sat me down at a taco spot across from Coco Bongo and told me I was being watched. I mentioned the TSA officer who asked how much money I had when I landed, and I simply responded, “enough.” I left for Playa del Carmen that day, but they were there too. You can’t escape them.
There is a story about foreigners couple being ambushed in a resort. They tied the males hands and feets and raped all their girlfriends except 1 mexican female.
Exactly. All the people that say Mexico is safe... are either tourists who are visiting the vacation spots, or non-locals who have moved there to buy a cheap home. That happened in Iguala in the state of Guerrero, those 42 students had commandeered a couple of buses as was their annual tradition to protest against something I don’t recall, unknowingly a local cartel had put drugs to be smuggled on those buses just prior and when the students accidentally drove off with the drugs in those buses the local cartel had the local police chase them down shooting at them until they stopped the buses and rounded up and shot and killed all the students at the cartel’s direction as proved by the texting between them when eventually it all came out the local cartel lord and police chief were briefly arrested and let go !😮

I bought weed from the Cartel behind a watch shop in Quantana Roo. 2 days later they went into my hotel room in Playa Del Carmer while I was at the pool, took my cash and wifes jewelery, took money from our locked safe too and then asked us to come up from the pool. We walked up with smiley hotel staff and walked into a room of police. They tried to bribe us, but I was attending the resort with about 125 friends of mine for a wedding. We all walked into the room and stood outside of it. They left. When some of my friends went back to their rooms , they were robbed too. Fuck that place. Community is nice but its too corrupt. This was 2018. Did take a tour of the Mayan ruins which was fantastic but had to have a tour guide who was familiar with cartel and police. They both will rob you, especially the police. Our uber driver picked up somebody at a mall down the street and didn't let them know about it and they set his car on fire the next day. I spent 14 days there, will never go back. and yeah, its pretty much tacos everywhere you go
Well do you think all that would of happend if you didn't buy weed from them? I just got back from cancun on Sunday the resort was laid back and there were a lot of Asian and white people there.
Nothing new with corrupt police in Mexico, In the 1970's one of the slang terms for a police car on the C.B. radio in the USA was a "tjaunna taxi" Every other person was picked up and brought to jail with whatever you had on you as bail. Back then cartels were a Colombian thing for the most part. Up to the 1980's I never felt unsafe in Mexico. I wouldn't go now, prefer to remember it as it was. Some really good people & food.
It's not just in Mexico. I worked in the ski industry from the 80's to the late 90's. The cartel has a stranglehold on the labor force in the tourist industry in the states & has for decades. Everyone I worked with that wasn't a US citizen was being trafficked. It's not just the fee to get across the border. They pay the cartel for their housing, their ID, their P.O. box, their phones, everything. They are indeed debt bonded.
I remember the story about the 42 kids.. my mom said her friend who was a mother of the college student. They were picked up because of sum protest & they were all burned near a river & no evidence was ever recovered.
Begs the question ,why did Biden open up the border and overwhelm our Customs and Border Patrol? Stopped construction of the wall on day one, paid off the contractors and sent them home, sold the left over materials at pennies on the dollar and basically said come one, come all? And the left thinks that's alright? If a conservative did that they'd be squawking and rightfully so.
My brother got married in Mexico bout 10 yrs ago. A year later the same hotel we stayed at got taken over by cartel! They came on the resort when tourist were there and kicked everyone out!

Stopped, yes. Legalized. No. In Canada they have tried this with 'safe injection sites' that give government supplied 'clean' drugs. The idea is that addicts will be safe with clean drugs. But what happens is they get them for free. Then sell them. This lowers the street price so they become more accessible for younger people and in greater numbers. And besides it's now "clean". So while the idea was that it'd help a static number of addicts be safer, which is a laudible idea, in fact it multiplies the addicts. It's a bit like the Opium wars. And our leaders appear to continue promoting all these policies. Free Drugs. Open Borders. And so on.

@@ShrimplessScampidude is severely exaggerating. Tourist areas are perfectly safe. Obviously most rural areas are complete shit holes, but well populated areas are fine.

I was just there last year. I think it’s safer to say don’t drive through the border and don’t end up in a small town somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
Violence is a language that everyone can understand.
That happened in Iguala in the state of Guerrero, those 42 students had commandeered a couple of buses as was their annual tradition to protest against something I don’t recall, unknowingly a local cartel had put drugs to be smuggled on those buses just prior and when the students accidentally drove off with the drugs in those buses the local cartel had the local police chase them down shooting at them until they stopped the buses and rounded up and shot and killed all the students at the cartel’s direction as proved by the texting between them when eventually it all came out the local cartel lord and police chief were briefly arrested and let go !😮
This is true I live in Acapulco and the students find the drugs in luggage when the students cédete getting off bus but this cartel was the government and the governor of Acapulco was having a affair with the female governor i iguala

I just got back from my 100th visit. There were plenty of good Mexicans at the nightclubs.. a cop pulled me over, and told me how to get to Fastpass lane.. he didn’t ask for money. I’m sure it happens.. this Narc is someone that visited Mexico only to go into the lion’s den over and over and over.. so I get it.. big picture.. Mexico is without a doubt a Narco run country.. so is the US.. (ahem.. healthcare policies…Sacler family anybody..? I spent 14 days there, will never go back. and yeah, its pretty much tacos everywhere you go
Wow
Well do you think all that would of happend if you didn't buy weed from them? I just got back from cancun on Sunday the resort was laid back and there were a lot of Asian and white people there.
Nothing new with corrupt police in Mexico,
In the 1970's one of the slang terms for a police car on the C.B. radio in the USA was a "tjaunna taxi"
Every other person was picked up and brought to jail with whatever you had on you as bail.
Back then cartels were a Colombian thing for the most part.
Up to the 1980's I never felt unsafe in Mexico.
I wouldn't go now, prefer to remember it as it was.

Interesting. Vail has a lot of Mexicans and some with highly suspected cartel ties.

The insane question is why would you still go there, simple.
I spent 8 days in Mexico City last summer and it was the best vacation of my life. People were awesome. 🤷♂️

This the guy from dusk till dawn lol
This is why in America we have to live by the rule of law, so that we don't have to live under this type of sh*t life and evil.
If Americans stopped or legalized drugs, the cartel would be finished overnight
Stopped, yes. Legalized. No. In Canada they have tried this with 'safe injection sites' that give government supplied 'clean' drugs. The idea is that addicts will be safe with clean drugs. But what happens is they get them for free. Then sell them. This lowers the street price so they become more accessible for younger people and in greater numbers. And besides it's now "clean". So while the idea was that it'd help a static number of addicts be safer, which is a laudible idea, in fact it multiplies the addicts. It's a bit like the Opium wars. China is trying to destabilize the country by weakening it's potential for military mobilization in the event of a conflict. It's working. Obesity rates are also very bad. And our leaders appear to continue promoting all these policies. Free Drugs. Open Borders. And so on.
Na, they still have to earn money like human trafficking ect. They are diversified like most corporations.
I love this show. It really looks at the issues and talks openly about them. We have to do this to make change !
Hector is very enlightening to say the least. I have been all over Mexico many times and travel alone. The past several years I would go to Puerto Vallarta and also walk around at night. After hearing this interview I doubt I will ever go back. I grew up on the Southside of Chicago so I know danger--but nothing like this.
Complicity is what gives cartel power - it’s everyone who is willing to go along - the mother the daughter the sons, everyone who knows a cartel member and shuts their eyes is complicit in everything that happened - all the murders, rapes, and drug trafficking
