Semper Fi! I did my time as an 0311 in 2/5 Golf Company and went to Fallujah, Ramadi, and Karma, during the troop surge in 2007. I love what you have to say about leadership. I dealt with terrible leaders. I dealt with guys who would go out looking for their Combat Action Ribbon and that we’re in leadership positions. When I went through Boot Camp in 2005, most Drill Instructors didn’t take the time to teach morality, leadership, and the military definition of integrity. They taught kill, kill, kill. But during the surge, they really didn’t have time to teach us too much else. Keep up the good work inspiring Marines and civilians alike to become good successful people. God bless and Semper Fidelis. MSgt USMC/Retired.
Never even seriously thought of being in the military, just been in a pretty "pointless" rut after failing/getting screwed by a workplace rat. I come back to vids like these for inspiration, as I feel rather down at the moment. Thanks for the video.

Take some time and figure out what you're passionate about doing in life and would love to wake up to and do for the next 5, 10, 20, 30 years. Then set 3 goals - short term, medium term, and long term. Then you just start working towards that short term goal. I had to work for 11 years in the medical field, running around, breaking a sweat EVERY shift, over-worked and underpaid, as they say. Took 11 years of getting berated, patients hating seeing me (I did the blood draws starting at 4 AM in the hospital), getting yelled at by Dr's, and so on in order to get the dream job I wanted. But it's SO worth it, even more-so now that I know what obstacles I had to overcome and push past in order to get a career (NOT the job, but CAREER) that pays well, bought me my first house, and gave me a wife and 2 beautiful kids. Stay MOTIVATED, "hug the cactus" when times get tough (embrace the difficulties, don't shy away from them), and it WILL pay off!

Accurate video. Experienced numerous bad leadership in the Fleet. Mostly First SGTs out for themselves. Only cared about the welfare of the troops when an officer was around.
Spot on. I'm a former marine and almost 30 years later still working in public safety. I can attest to the correctness of the drill instructors words here.
SSGT Nicolas thank you for telling us about dealing with bad leaders in our lives including my life especially when the enemy come to do three things steal kill and destroy
You motivated me when I was 17 to join brother. I became a corporal when I was in bro. Thank you for your positive light and Christian ponderance. Fast forward I am 31 now and using your wisdom to reaffirm my victories.
Thank you for your service sir, as a civilian, I am proud to know that God grants these men the abilities to lead. God bless you SSGT Nichols, the USMC and God be with you 🙏
SSGT Nichols, thank you sir for the encouragement. I have worked under leadership that you have described. You are so right on with this. Thank you again and for your service.
I served directly with this Marine at Camp Pendleton and Iraq from 2006 to 2007. He’s the real deal and a tremendous leader! I learned so much from him! Semper Fidelis!

Unfortunately, it’s our costumers who suffer the consequences of avoidable mishaps. Especially ones, that I tried to warn leadership of but they chose not to listen to until it’s too late. Thank you for your service, sir!

After watching this video you showed me that there were no regrets in my decision and that it's never too late as long as you never quit. Stay healthy and motivated. Oorah!
Staff Sgt Nichols I agree. Tomorrow October 5th will be 40 years when I graduated us army basic combat training at fort Jackson south Carolina on tank hill. I was in basic training from August 14th 1979 to October 5th 1979 . My grandpa unit at fort Jackson had some great leaders our company commander LT,Taylor was a really great leader and all the way down the chain of command in my unit, A-3-1, 2nd platoon, if I met any of my former drill sgts and our co I still would have the same Respect for them as I did when I was in the army. Thank you brother for your service

However, just like you said in this video, there are poor leadership in this field. Sometimes I, just want to quit. I'm not going to give them the satisfaction. Once again thank you for serving our country and sharing your experience. God bless!

Thank you, brother, for the words you spoke in this video. You are a great leader and thanks for serving our country. Keep on keeping on and God bless you and your family
Don’t allow other leaders to talk you out of your destiny… Thank You SSgt. Nichols. You remain an inspiration in my life. You’d asked for topics, and if I may. The Nation so needs good leaders, and a strong Military is as important now as it ever has been. How do leaders become inspired to become leaders… how do we make available opportunities for the possibilities of leadership to our generation of young? I appreciate you, and have the utmost respect. Thank you more than I can ever adequately say. May God bless you, and those whom you hold dear.
I now work in nursing and to be honest with you, I never imagined seeing the poor leadership in a setting where lives are at stake ,but I knew it was there from my clinical just never in a million years expected it to go as deep is I've seen it now especially while fighting covid. Your words and knowledge on this topic is spot on. Thank you and YES, I've passed this video on to my fellow nurses and we've all had a good talk about how to adapt, overcome, put aside the BS and put forth our best despite the shit show we have faced and will face. GOD BLESS.
So much admiration and gratitude for SSGT Nichols 🎉😮 I’m 44 years old and never served but have studied the USMC vids on RUclips and it has changed my view on the military industrial complex because of how damn inspirational you are, not only as a fucking badass leader but as a Christian humanist as well..🎉🎉🎉
Semper Fi! Great words. I left the Marine Corps due to bad leadership. I did have one SSgt that was tough but he challenged us. I met him when I came back to my unit from a FAP. He had recently come off the drill field and was the best leader I ever had. He would take us out and train. We would train on the job we were supposed to do, not sit in the classroom and talk about it on the whiteboard. Also, my favorite drill instructor was assigned to my battalion a year later. I was on the battalion color guard for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. He said he was proud of me and bought me a shot.
I’m currently active in the US Navy and after my four years is done I’m going to join the Marine Corps, and I appreciate your words of advice. PS I remember my first RDC in Great Lakes telling me the same principal you said. God Bless You!
Good word SSgt. I dealt with that a lot of that (Officer to Senior enlisted) while active on duty but I never let that take away from the excellent people/leaders I was blessed with priviledge of serving with! Just like you said in your particular story with the Gunny brother there is always a blessing in the works. SF💪🏾☝🏾✊🏾 Couldn't imagine being a NCO today we live in a whole different society mindset I see it in the youth everyday @ work!
Staff Sergeant thank you so much for this. In my career as an attorney and prosecutor, I've dealt with my share of bad leaders (to be quite honest, I wouldn't even call them leaders, I'd call them bosses because their "leadership" wasn't worthy of being called that) and your advice is absolutely correct. You just have to keep going and give it the best you can. Thank you again and thank you for your service to our nation in the Marine Corps.
@@SSGTNICHOLS Staff Sergeant, the thanks really goes to you for all you have done. Also, you couldn't be more right, especially when I was a prosecutor. I worked as a prosecutor in a major city for three years and in that job, you have the power to literally ruin someone's life and when there's bad leadership, it makes it harder to stay focused on your mission to seek justice regardless of result. Like you said, you just have to keep going and not let it get you down.
I absolutely love these nuggets of wisdom in your video, especially the part about not letting the enemy take joy in seeing you walk away with your head down. Just as you said, the enemy loves to kill, steal, and destroy. Excellent video! Thx for all you do for your Marines and fellow vets! This is applicable across all the six branches of service-Army, AF, USMC, USN, USCG, and Space Force!
Ive been out for about 11 years now, haven't talked to another Marine since really and this was actually a breath of fresh air for me. I needed to hear another Marine speak. Thanks for doing all you've done, I've got your back till the end of time Devil. ✌️👁️
Spot on Sir. My Technical Sergeant has been putting a lot of pressure on me. I've been passing my physical tests for the Air Force fitness Special Operations development group but he is relentless when it comes to pointing out some of my flaws and putting me on the spot in front of the group. I know he's doing this to try and check and see if I break down and react the wrong way but I haven't given an inch and I have completed the tasks he has requested and he is starting to respect me more.
I only wish I learned this in the army. In my first duty station, I had a bad leader, and it caused my heartache no end. However, as in chess, where you learn to win by losing, I learned these things, and I went into my next duty station, able to show that I knew my job and knew it well, and I became the go-to guy when there were issues that needed fixing. That bad leader did make me strive to prove that I was better than that and to improve myself so that, when I did change stations, I came in with an air of confidence and ability to be a positive player on my team. I only wished I learned it sooner because if I had, I would have advanced quicker.
Having a bad leader at the first duty station is not ideal, especially if that gives a lasting impression. It's great that you progressed beyond that experience. OOH RAH!
Great words of wisdom!! I was in the Marines back in 03 and was in an infantry battalion stationed in Kanoehe Bay 1st Battalion 3rd Marines, Weapons Company. Keep up the outstanding movational videos. Semper Fi.
Staff Sergeant, your words inspire me as a junior Marine. You are the image of what all leaders including myself should aspire to be. Thank you and Semper Fi 🤙🏻
Once again the Motivational as always I have issues along the same lines as the poor leadership in my units A lot of the things you say help me realize that it’s true, it’s not just our marines who have these issues, and there are good Marines still out there Semper Fidelis SSgt!

His last bit of advice is the best I've heard.
OOH RAH!
@@SSGTNICHOLS KILL!
Amen. 🙏🏻 Wise words for any area in life when dealing with a poor leader. It takes a Great leader to deal with a poor leader.
Needed to hear this. I feel like all my life has been a fight, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
It makes the victories even sweeter Spencer!
Don’t allow other leaders to talk you out of your destiny…
Thank You SSgt.
Great message
OOH RAH!
Watched many videos you were in and many comments from trained Marines spoke highly of you. You damn sure are a leader, sir.
Thank you Staff Sgt. For this motivated video. This is something I needed to hear in this Devil Dogs career. Semper Fi.
OOH RAH! Thank you Leon. Semper Fi!
Outstanding!! I am definitely taking that onboard!! Thank You!!!
OOH RAH!
Awesome. Timeless advice. Please keep making more videos. Thanks!
Thank you Ray!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane SSgt .
Thanks SSgt, you're an enlightened gentleman as well as a certified badass. Looking forward to your next vid.
OOH RAH! Thank you Dan!
GOD BLESS.
OOHRAH and thank you for sharing your thoughts and the video with others! God Bless & Semper Fi!
I know all of this. I live all of this. Just good to hear it from another. To know I'm not alone.
OOH RAH! Times have evolved indeed. Thank you for what you did for our country on active duty!
You give hope to Marines that see this world crumble. You’re an outstanding Marine Staff Sergeant. Thank you
What a great human being.
Thank you. And you're in a tough field as a lawyer, so bad leadership is difficult to deal with there.
@@andrewdressler7076 Thank you for serving our justice system with integrity! OOH RAH!
@@SSGTNICHOLS and thank you for your honorable service to our nation and all you continue to do!
Nichols!!!! Genuine dude in life on this planet right here.
I love his advice and how he carries himself.
Thank you Staff Sergeant Nichols! It's very motivating to listen to someone I can relate to.
God Bless You SSgt! Well said! Semper Fi!
Amazing words thank you so much SSGT God bless you!
I've been watching your videos. You are definitely the epitome of Drill Instructor. Served in 2000 to 2008. Semper Fi warrior.
I remember when I was birdogging you came and gave me and a few other DI students a motivational pep talk.
Well spoken Sir- Thankyou for your service - you are a great American.

Just popped up in my feed. Thank you SSGT Nichols!
Oorah! Ssgt Nichols!!! We were stationed at Camp Smith, HI back in 03 I believe! I was working for SGM Skinner at the time!
Semper Fi!!!
Ive been out for about 11 years now, haven't talked to another Marine since really and this was actually a breath of fresh air for me. I needed to hear another Marine speak. Thanks for doing all you've done, I've got your back till the end of time Devil. ✌️👁️
Thank you for what yoy have done Ssgt. I watch your videos until this day.
That's the way to do it! You have to be relentless in your pursuit of Special Operations. OOH RAH!
Very well spoken SSGT Nichols
OOH RAH!
Once again the Motivational as always
I have issues along the same lines as the poor leadership in my units
A lot of the things you say help me realize that it’s true, it’s not just our marines who have these issues, and there are good Marines still out there
Semper Fidelis SSgt!
Thank you Ryan. Keep pushing forward even in the face of poor leadership and adversity! OOH RAH!
Your greatness exposes those bad leaders.
Outstanding advice! Much appreciated and well utilized!
Thank you Gaberial!
I appreciate hearing this after being a hat just like you
TONS of life lessons here. Military or not. Thanks for the words of wisdom brother. Top of the line respect for ye.
Thank you, SSGT.
I'm a Corporal now and I have been coming to this video for the last couple of weeks for your insight into leading.
Sarnt. You have inspired millions. What else is there to say or talk about? You have done your part.
Good way to deal with that issue! Good advice!
OOH RAH! Thank you Darryl.
