This was written by Peter Yarrow also wrote and sang “The Wedding Song, there is love” which is great and of course was part of the phenomenal Folk group Peter, Paul and Mary

No, The Wedding Song was written by Noel Paul Stookey who is the Paul of Peter, Paul and Mary group.
Anyways, this song was shocking in 1976 when it hit the charts. Mary Macgregor's singing is mesmerizing but the story was devastating even in the era of Free Love.
I think she regretted recording it

People wrote songs ,Vocalist sang them. Back then people got married very young and didn’t get divorced. There were so many unhappy marriages

A few years after this song, there was a TV movie "Torn Between Two Lovers" with Lee Remick. I'm guessing it was inspired by this song(?)

When I was a young teenage boy in the mid 70's who was into what we now call classic rock, me and my friends would call a song like this one and You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone, marshmellow songs because they were soft and gooey. And if you ate too many, or heard them too often, they made you puke! Ya, we were horrible little boys!

I was 24 when this came out. It's really stupid. I had forgotten about it until now. And now I'll forget it again.

If I recall correctly, this song destroyed her marriage...her husband believed that it was true 😢
