  • Panasonic VHS player with no power, which was originally turning on and off. This was another one of the items I picked up for £1 from a local 2nd hand shop. It was an obvious repair as you could see the leaking capacitors as so as the lid came off.

    Absolutely excellent video - thank you so much! I have an NV-SV121, which looks like basically the S-VHS version of the HV61, and the same two capacitors have puffed up in mine, although my C1260 is 1200uF as opposed to 1000uF. I'm tempted to fit a 1000uF cap because I have some of those in stock, but I think I'll order up the correct value and replace like-for-like.

      Brilliant, I'm glad this video has helped you. A 1000uF would probably be fine but like you say l would replace it with a 1200uF. Thanks for the lovely comment.

    Nice fix, I could do with one of those tester things

      Thanks for watching Sir Pete. A proper ESR meter would be better but they're expensive. This one is not the best but will at least give you an idea whether the cap is faulty, even if it's not budging.

    Great job as always I like your capacitor tester too, is it homemade or does it come in kit form?

    • @RetroElectronicRepair
      @RetroElectronicRepair  2 года назад

      It came in kit form but most of it was already built. I had to solder some of the components on. A lot cheaper than a proper ESR tester but obviously not as accurate. It will still tell you if a component is bad though.

      Yes, I was born in the 70's, we used to splice lots of things back together with tape.

      I don't recommend using ordinary household sticky tape to splice audio or video tapes together; unless the proper splicing repair kit is not available to buy anywhere and you need to fix a broken tape "in a hurry".

    i got Panasonic NV-J30 video and it doesn't turn on anymore What could be the cause ?

    • @RetroElectronicRepair
      @RetroElectronicRepair  Год назад +1

      Is there any signs of life, like any lights? If not it could be just blown caps in the power supply of the unit. These are very dangerous to work on though and you need some idea of what you are doing in case some of the caps are still holding 300 volts

    • @DerekHundik
      @DerekHundik Год назад +2

      @@RetroElectronicRepair it wasn't working I opened it to check the fuse which was OK. I put it back and it started working for some time then it went dead again. No lights . Nothing.

      It's hard to say then. Could be a capacitor going bad or maybe a cracked solder joint.

    • @RoughJustice2k18
      @RoughJustice2k18 Год назад

      @@DerekHundik Most likely bad caps in the power supply, but also possible there may be dry solder joints as well.
