It may be that music can be such a demanding calling, that those who respond very seriously, those with extraordinary gifts, actually shorten their lives by fully answering that call. Not always true, of course, but true too often, it seems.
A big surprise to listen to his voice for the first time. I imagined him with a powerful and low pitched voice. A bit disappointed, I must say. But still admiring his genius.
Musicians like him difficult to find! Nowadays everyone is trying to copy and perform the same. I love the difference that musicians put into the music! 🎶
Appearantly You do not understand the german language. Richters accent is a very typical Saxonian accent. It's the original accent of Bachs own region around Leipzig.
This pattern brings to mind Robert Burns Woodward. An equally great genius who dominated his field (Organic Chemistry), chain smoked and died too young (62). It is so sad.
@@Edseltje And Bach itself was so pipe love that, onde time, his younger son, when baby, didn´t recognize him when Bach arrived to house without smoking a pipe.
On the 70´s it was very common. Not only in Germany, but also in Brazil. I saw a little interview with the writter Clarice Lispector, and she was smoking during the interview.
i don't know, but seeing this interview let me with the impression that he was a very very very stressed man..
Well he had many health problems including an early heart attack
At least in this interiew, he looked like very calm.
@@marks1417 This might have had to do with his bad teeth ;-)
A straightforward speaker, yet terribly complex and gifted artist.
Remembering KARL RICHTER, who died on this day in 1981.
At the end of the video, "Richter's secret was in fact the creatively inspired performance".
Absolutely.
All very true what he says. Great artist.
exactly how Mahler described conducting..
Richter is a great representative of Bach's work. What a blessing he was.
Karl Richter was born in Plauen, Saxony, east-central Germany. The town is near the border of Bavaria and the Czech Republic.
Un très grand chef d'orchestre et artiste.

A great man.

as a quote by Lord Byron : Heaven gives its favorites - early death

Happy birthday, mein freund. 90.

i can imagine that his teeth is damage because of the cigarettes
No, it was during the War so like the eye. .. But he still smoked too much. Grande Maestro
Ach Mein Karl Du verstehst mich so gut - nur DU jsb leipzig cantor
He looks like Lestat the vampire in this clip. When he returns after having spent some time in swamp that is.
A genius though.
Er war gigantisch gut
interessant
Erinnert etwas an Klaus Kinski. Gibt anscheinend eine 70er-Jahre-Phonetik.
Why every single classical music genius is a smoker?
I can see a pattern here...

Now here we have the real Bond villain. Didn't know Jaws played the organ so well :D
lol is he smoking throughout the interview?

@mreldude
Seems to be true. Also pay attention to his teeth.
he speaks German whit an weird accent. Ican't recognize it.
Seventies-Accent
great artist, but i can't get past the teeth..
Sad, but true.
His teeth are unfortunate. He was very handsome otherwise.
awesome, he smokes cigarettes.
seine Zähne :O
My grandparents were both smokers. Their teeth were yellowed, but they didn't look as awful as Richter's do here. :/
@godeysen: Wen interessiert denn das?
Stinky monster's mouth
