Obama and Kenyan President clash over gay rights in Africa - Daily Mail

- Obama, whose father was Kenyan and has dozens of relatives in the country, hailed a 'continent on the move' which is lifting its citizens 'out of poverty' in a speech Saturday at a business event (left) in Nairobi. Thousands flocked to the streets to see Obama, who has a huge following in Kenya, where a school (bottom right) and dozens of children (such as they three Barack Obamas, top right) are named in his honor.

That’s the political answer, not the humanist one. Must be awful for those LGBT people living in countries where the culture is so regressive. That’s my point. They make up 5-10% of most countries’ populations. Denying they exist does not make it so.
@@222Vroom I don't think he does, I think he just downplays in an intelligent manner the inhumane and evil beliefs of traditional cultures like Kenya's. That's the humanist answer, but not the realist one. Things can't change quickly. We can fight for it, but I mean (to give an objective answer) we don't like three-wheeled cars in the West typically, but some countries take pride in them, practically. It's hard to make a comparison when development disparities are so high and there are so many different factors at play, and yes, you can sympathise, but there's not really a lot one can do from the outside looking in. There needs to be a "lightbulb moment" from the inside.

@@abdulmaliksuleman9111 awaiting your wisdom, desparately
I understand what the Kenyan President said 1000%. But at the same time it's not hard to pass a bill for infrastructure or whatever and also be like oh yeah also gay marriage is cool. I get they have issues to focus on like food, energy, water, housing. But passing a law like this if you are truly not against gay people is easy. The truth is that they are homophobic. Just say that don't pussy foot around the issue. I am not a liberal or anything like that I am actually quite liberation. If your country was really focused on other issues like food, water, energy like Kenya should be than keeping gay marriage illegal should not be an issue. Spending time, effort, and money aposing gay marriage isn't worth it.
I mean in fairness, to Kenya it really isn't that much of an issue, focusing on kids actually getting education, contraception, health care, nourishment and jobs is way more important.
If you're not careful, you might hurt some feelings.
And those are all issues that need investment and work put into them, reall issues, top priorities. The issue at hand that is the topic of this video does not need incestments and work put into them, merely giving the human right of freedom of sexuality to the citizenry
@Unspeakable Traditional morality of socially exiling, if not worse (jailing or killing), people for their sexuality...you don't give a rat's ass about it because it doesn't affect you, but it does affect people, no it's not "hurting people's feelings" it's hurting people's lives and sometimed livelihoods themselves...and it's easily mendable: the country stops making sexualities criminal, there, end of story.
@@miguelpadeiro762 The problem is that this will require a large amount of resources being put towards re-education and a strong drive to change the mindset of the general populace. That is a very tough thing to do. India struggled with this as well, it wasn't until 2018 that Section 377 was declared unconstitutional. It takes a long time to change a mindset, especially of those who are going through so much other than this right now.
@@shredheadterminal That is why I am merely promoting legislative reforms and not educational ones. Because yes, you can't just change a people's mindset in a day, but you can stop the laws suppressing people for their sexuality, even if de facto (as in it is still in the law, but you wouldn't get prosecuted)
Educating the people is a slow process, a shift of society from traditional mindsets that, say, sodomy is evil, to more accepting mindsets, say, do whatever you want in the bedroom as long as you are two consenting adults.
The process was slow in places like Europe, still a bit of anti-homosexual sentiment, most times religiously-fueled, here, wouldn't expect it to be any different there.
So that's my point, takes year if not decades to change the mindset, takes far less time to abolish prosecution based on sexuality. I say this because these so called "brave presidents" say they can't act on it because hunger and other humanitarian problems...when this is one of them. If there's something I can't stand it is politicians using honey-ed words to distract you from an issue.

How would the USA feel if a richer Africa started to try to impose their values on them?
how would a gay person feel if their own government imposed its aesthetic views on gay people?
If those values were inherently ruining people’s lives for no reason then it needs to be condemned
If Americans started moving to Africa like Africans are to the US, THEN and only then would that be something to worry about. Until then, it is not.

This already happened it was from 2008 to 2016.
I appreciate President Obama's advocacy for a minority population here in the US, as well as Kenya. @@creakyinertia872 How is it ill knowledged? its a fact that you can go to prison in Kenya just for being gay. You can be torn out of your homes. I would argue that the lack of knowledge of laws in Kenya to comment this is more of a show of propaganda

That was impressive and honest with out hurting both sides of the people
Just because Obama is gay doesn’t mean we have to follow his lead. He can butt out and do his thing.
The way the Kenyan president speak is just the best way forward ❤️
Obama is very fluent but when it comes to this matter, he started sounding dumb. He can’t make sense out of this. President of Kenya finished him well.
False, false and false.
He owned that Kenyan president whose voice even chirped at the start. Being gay is fine. You just want to tell gay people they are not ok to be gay. So you want to impose YOUR view on their freedoms.
@@LeMerch and you want us to accept something we say we don’t want? Dnt accuse us restraining another’s freedom if you are not allowing us express ours. Respect ours and we respect yours.
Did you watch the same video as us?? FYI Obama's wife is a man

Can anyone tell me what year this was from?

Steven Anderson pastor church I think he from USA 🇺🇸 ⛪️ and president of kenya I get respect both of them
So what's the alternative? All gay people should move to the West instead? Why should gay and straight people not live in harmony in Kenya? To protect a culture? Why protect a culture that discriminates against minorities?
Iam glad to stand tall as an African in Africa.Anyone who loves people should share positive cultural values.
I’m what way is criminalising consensual sexuality and discriminating against human rights a positive cultural value?
hating people for who they love isnt a positive cultural value…wtf is wrong with you people.
Question: Why don't Africans call Africa "Alkebulan," You do realize that a Roman general named your entire continent after himself, right?
@@randominternetuser3814 I don’t understand how you came to the conclusion that the Kenyan president hates gay people. All he said was that Kenya has more important issues to deal with *first*
@@Chadius_Thundercock if they have more important problems why are they wasting resources on imprisoning homosexuals?
