@jemhadar5029 I made a video a while back talking about the new rules which are supposed to help protect truckers by changing things up for brokers. The rule starts this year and goes through 2026. Check out the video or the breakdown in the description box of that video. Basically the 2024 portion does nothing for us, then 2025, and finally 2026. It's like brokers are a protected class. ruclips.net/video/4m_pJHgvrpc/видео.html
@jossa942 Almost seems that way, doesn't it? I made a video 4 months ago about some of the laws that go into effect starting this year which are supposed to protect truckers and bring some broker reform. Check it out at ruclips.net/video/4m_pJHgvrpc/видео.html or the description box of that video. Thanks for stopping by.
@@AFTDispatch yep I watched that video the day you made it. Lol. I’ll watch it again though because it’s been a while I can’t remember everything. But until they cap broker % it’s really just smoke and mirrors imo
I spent 25 years in the trucking industry as a company driver, then O/O. I have been on the admin side of the business as well as an independent operator locating work, signing contracts, onboarding new drivers and dispatching them. I am out now, finally, and I don't miss one second of it.
Before you drink all the liberatarian kool-aid did you know there's never ever been a society without a government? And most of them have been fascist dictator governments. What about the rates? Luckily I ha ent been a victim of a fraudulent company and I do feel sorry for those who have. The problem I'm having is when they gonna do something about these rates? How is it EVERYTHING has gone up in price except freight rates? Showers 20 bucks, a truck stop urgent and a bag of chips 10 bucks fuel 4 bucks a gal but Fright rates .80cpm in Florida. How someone poseto run a trucking company on that?
If the government in building a website all having multiple broken links to different pages and other federal government pages not working 404 pages and then the website will just loop around. Seems like Go Daddy website helper should be standard for these government websites. The government IT sucks.
The changes are way overdue, the should've updated that system a decade ago, in fact I remember logging into a USDOT/FMCSA related system once (not SAFER), and it looked like it was version 1.0 from 1985. Hopefully this ends up making this better and not worse. We'll have to see what happens.
That Indianapolis to Marysville KY is from CH Robinson and it's there all the time because it's dirty and nobody wants to go there. It's even cheap at $585 cause we got $650-700 but we ain't gonna do a dirty load like that again. Also, shipper keeps you there for a long time.
To be honest, I don't have the details on that particular load but I do know that some loads are best avoided. Many years back my brother was trying to come home to Utah and there wasn't much out there. The load on offer was a load of raw cow hides. We were new in business and didn't know what that really meant hahaha, luckily the broker was super cool and told us, warned us, and recommended against it since we were running a brand new reefer. Not all heroes wear capes hahaha
I actually talked to a broker for that Dixon, IL to Northwood, OH load and I was about to book it for $1100 but the shipper had terrible reviews. The driver would be lucky if he got out of there in time cause even customer rep claimed they often pay driver detention. You don't teach your dispatchers to read reviews before booking?😆
Next week I'll have one of my dispatchers jump on a call with us for the Sunday Live show we do at 4PM CST. He has a few things he wanted to cover with you guys which would help make more money and make more sense out of certain situations. I would recommend you stop by and call in, or watch the replay afterwards. The other thing is people are all different. I knew a guy who ran a reefer and always wanted loads that allowed for more time than was actually needed. He took is easy and ran very slow with lots of breaks. We try and use that to our advantage. It honestly varies from driver to driver.
Hi, I drive dump truck in DC Maryland and VA, I read DAT web site that In DC VA and Maryland that for hire carriers and non regulated loads can drive without active MC number, any info?
I would agree, things are pretty bad. Another reason why I advocate knowing and controlling your operating costs and getting help with increasing gross income. Cut out things that don't bring value and add things that do.
I'm not trying to be a wise guy here, but Short hauls always pay more. Short hauls eat up drive time. You're also speading to much time tieing down, loading and unloading. Ah, $2.30 + - on short miles doesn't seem so good. If you're dealing with manufacturers that are open 24 hrs a day for pickup & delivery it might be work out. Can you speak to these points? Thx
Yes, absolutely, short hauls always pay more, definitely not arguing here. They're not for everyone, during the peak of the market a couple of years or so ago, our guys managed to dispatch some of our customers on two straight-thru loads per day. Truth is, not everyone can make that work and it's not always possible with a flatbed, depending on the type of freight and/or shipper/receiver. Right now the market is pretty bad and our dispatchers are finding creative ways to use deadhead or shorter runs to move drivers more profitably. In fact one of my dispatchers will be joining us next week to talk about some of this. I encourage everyone to stop by and call in, ask him questions, it'll be a good show. I'll cover some of this tomorrow but I think I'll leave the meat and potatoes portion for Peter. Thanks for stopping by!
But what the hell Norman had 464 mile dead head so that 1800 miles goes to 2200 miles so that $6100 ÷ 2200 miles is $2.77 a mi I'm assuming $1400 in fuel $4700 minus dispatch fees at 5% $305 Net $4395 that's a basic week what killed it was dead head if you only count loaded miles everything would be great 😃🤷🤦
You can take a look at our most recent releases and you'll see me showing you guys deadhead miles. They're ultra low. Here are some examples: Anthony: 3,327 Loaded / 76 Deadhead Patrick: 2,39 Loaded / 90 Deadhead Lucas: 3,792 Loaded / 196 Deadhead Junior: 2,781 Loaded / 87 Deadhead Damian: 3,467 Loaded / 20 Deadhead Milagres: 3,953 Loaded / 15 Deadhead So as you can see, deadhead is minimal when running with us. All of these guys above are just from one week. I hope this helps.
In two years y’all gonna be complaining about too much government regulation. I can see it coming a mile away. Or in this case 2 years and one mile away.
Amazing how they can regulate and overhaul trucking biz but do almost absolutely nothing about broker industry
Right how funny. Almost on purpose

Oh I couldn't agree more. It's painful. And then they spend 1000X the needed dollar amount and it takes two forevers to complete.
Just making it harder for the small independent.
