I've always found it hilarious when movies and TV shows have scenes of someone playing a video game and it just looks weird. They usually have a non-branded version of a well-known console, constantly mash all the buttons on the controller (which might not be the correct one) when playing, and some weird CGI footage of what's supposed to be a video game. I know they usually can't show a real console or game due to licensing, but it's always awesome to see a video game reference or portrayal of a video game that is accurate in TV and movies.
There was another in NCIS, where a car is described as a Kuruma. This was when the only one was the GTA III era model, based on the Chrysler Sebring Sedan. If it was a newer episode, it'd be a Mitsubishi Lancer Sedan.
I remember my mom was watching this episode and I heard the name Niko Bellic and I instantly turned my attention to it. That shock was then added to by seeing a 60-year-old man actually know who Niko was. Criminal Minds went hard for me that night.
Games should be more widely accepted as Art, when someone drops a movie reference everybody plays along, when someone drops a book reference they act suprised at their choice in literature, and when someone drops a Video Game reference they just look at them like the biggest weirdo to walk the earth. I can name atleast 10 games with better writing than some of the "Mainstream" movies. And plus Movies are just an hour or 2 long, while Video games can tell you a story so detailed and interesting throughout multiple hours. Like if we got the Visuals and action of a movie, the writing of a book, and add player choice into it, and boom, you're the main character of a detailed story.
@@artemis1993What they are you must be kind a young. Because I remember a time when you'd be ashamed to play games. Now so long as you don't seem like a complete nerd or geek it's acceptable. Been surprised over the years of people I've found out played games.
That put a smile on my face, I’m always down to play GTA IV. Still my favorite in the series. Every GTA game has a unique feel and that’s why I love them.
Crazy that my favorite game was refferenced by my favorite show! I would watch Crimminal Minds late into the night a few years ago. In the middle of some episode, & the night, I'd walk out to buy snacks & binge it till it was gone. The best show, I swear!
GTA 4 is a great game, San Andreas is still my favorite but GTA 4 is my second favorite GTA game. I loved the story and gunfights and Niko Bellic is literally one of the best characters ever written in video game history, not even CJ is as good as Niko, I'd say Vic is a strong competitor to Niko in terms of morality, both are great characters, Vic is my favorite GTA protagonist and Niko is my second. The DLCs were incredible on their own, even though they were short.
There is also a reference to a car being called a “Kuruma” in a show. But then finding out that the person was lying because a Kuruma is not a real car.
I can't believe this, this must be the most accurate videogame reference in the history of television.

Little did they know in ten years it would be perfectly normal for a grown man to be playing a Grand Theft Auto game.
