    I like to put my date inside the lip, just above the seal. That way it has a layer of plastic protecting it. Use a cardboard backer if you are worried about bone or fin spike punctures, and you can put the date right on the cardboard backer.

    Good one Adam. My daughter and I catch black perch nearby our place out here in the east bay and I’ve struggled a little to fillet them well. Yes, practice makes perfect but seeing it again always helps. I like that you start with catching all the way through to storage. Love your patter and advice along the way.

    Remove the sharp fins with a pair of side-cutters... I do that with all my rock fish prior to scaling or cleaning !
    Side-cutters easily snips off those nasty sharp fins that occasionally have some mild poisons that will cause
    your hand to hurt like hades (and swell-up)
    "Side-cutters" a very inexpensive tool that often can be found in thrift stores even cheaper.
    Great video Adam !

    I like scaling and gutting where I catch the fish . Rinse in ocean water saves on drinking water ( every bit helps in the dry west ) . I also use a soft flexible cooler and I use ice packs . Saves money and once again fresh water .

    You can make little individual pouches for your lures with the packer you have. Just use the sealer to melt the plastic in the desired size for the lur you want to protect. Especially with the bulk bag material.

    Here is another tip for helping to preserve fish: use wet grass to keep your fish fresh, while your fishing and don't have ice. I will often put ice in grass the day before. Keeping them in a mesh bag also helps. I would often use a fishing cereal, when on the beach, or fishing streams and rivers.

    • @woody350ep1
      @woody350ep1 3 года назад +2

      I learned that from an old timer here in Indiana as well. I've done the vac-sealing route but more often than not, I just use a freezer bag whatever size I need. Put the fish in the bag, fill with water to cover the fish, zip the bag 90% of the way closed, squeeze it down until all the air is out of the bag and water is coming out, then finish closing it to seal it up cutting off the flow of water. Now you have a nicely sealed bag with no air! Lay it flat in the freezer to freeze and there you go!
