  • Andy Kershaw presents The Smiths performing 'Bigmouth Strikes Again' and "Vicar in a Tutu" from the album 'The Queen Is Dead' on the BBC's 'Whistle Test' series in 1986. This show is often named on RUclips as the Old Grey Whistle test, but by the time of this Smiths performance, the show had been renamed "Whistle Test" I recorded this on a Sony C6 Mono Betamax VCR.

The two months from “Bigmouth” through to “Panic” marked The Smiths imperial phase. For that brief period they were the best group in the whole world, and as this and their performance on “Euro Tube” a few weeks later demonstrated, they knew it.
