I was just thinking the same. Its amazing how his voice sounds just as good, and then he also nails every note. I guess he truely is one of the best frontmen since mick jagger.
The Smiths were/and continue to be a Northern English treasure. Ignore the progressives that call Moz a racist; if you read his biography you’ll find he’s not, he’s an English patriot.
'I am a living sign'. I feel this is the eye of the duck in the body of Morrissey's lyrics. His sheer joy and freedom and his heart touching idiosyncratic movements as he sings, pulling the jacket away from his body as though he is molting just lights me up. Molting is a difficult process not every creature can survive but Morrissey does it time and time again......his vulnerability is his strength. The combination of being a sign and a human individual at the same time is paradoxically sublime. A perfect way to start the day.
first smiths song i ever heard, and i fell in love. johnny marr's riffs are just stunning, and mozza's lyrics are incredible " as the flames rose to her roman nose and her walkman started to melt" what an amazing piece of art, and not forget vicar in a tutu, great jangly guitar and morrissey's humor, great song.
Man they were so cool. I miss those days. It's nice that Craig Gannon was in the band too as the 5th Smith. He's quite a guitarist. Rourke's bass playing was incredible. Marr we all know he's the greatest. Listen to Mike Joyce's drumming superb. Then Moz he had coolness no one did in those days.
i was one of the lucky few who saw The Smiths live, U.S. Meat is Murder tour....Vicar In A Tutu hahahaha omg he could just sing that phrase & nothing else...i'd blissfully listen to it all day every day.
Does that make me one of the lucky few as well. To be honest there was loads of us at the time that saw them live, it's just that now we're all old and twisted with nowt but our memories to keep us warm. Vim under the sink, two bars on the fire etc etc. If the young kids want to sit in a circle at my feet I shall regale them with magic stories of shows at Manchester Palace and Salford University...
Wolfington Yes. it does. I'm heart broken that the tickets we have for Morrissey's U.S.Washington, D.C. area tour date for 2014 became souvenirs after getting a call from the venue just a few hours before the show telling us the remaining tour dates had been cancelled due to Morrissey's poor health. I was distraught as I hadn't seen Morrissey solo since the late 80's-early 90's & I needed my fix man! In an effort to cheer myself up I put on Bona Drag, then got upset again cause it reminded me of the cancelled show. I was stuck in a love/hate Morrissey Catch 22 Aghhhhh! Getting old sucks big hairy donkey ballz. I don't recommend it. .
Wolfington I'm 42 & saw them 26/10/86 London Palladium with my brother & sister, I wonder if I was one of the youngest? We met Andy's mother at the stage door & she got them to sign our poster though not Morrissey as he had already gone? Someone signed his name on it anyway. She was lovely as we obviously didn't know who she was, she approached my sister.
thank you for posting this gem! i could watch Morrissey dance and sing and look so fucking cool all day, fuck having a job. why cant i get paid to worship Morrissey??? seriously, i would drool on his toenails!
"As the flames rose to her Roman nose, and her Walkman started to melt." This one of the wittiest lyrics I've ever come across in my entire life. Just Brilliant.
I much prefer this version of Vicar in a tutu over the actual studio recording of it, the way Moz sings the "I am the living sign part" gives me the chills, it flows so much better.
Adam I just covered this song the other night. The video is up right now. I was I a smiths coverband and was told that I sound alot like mo'z when I would sing his music. I love the smiths!!!!!! You Rock morrissey -3
Beautiful to see - an' let's hear it for Andy too please, surely the most uniquely gifted, and effortlessly musical bass players, who inhabited the oddball world that is indie/alternative music. Truly Johnny's 'other half' and together, it was high-artistry beyond cleverness... then add Moz into the mix, and... 🥰😍💗💥 R.I.P. Andy 🙏 x
I wish I could have seen them live but it would hit me hard to be so into the band and then they break up. In some ways it’s been better being born later and getting the full catalog without being attached in the moment.
carl jules not really, havnt listened to spellbound in some time now but as I recall, it was similar, in the sense that they were both fast and in a similar key, but they're not the same, I may be wrong though
i had tickets to this concert in 1986 to take my boyfriend, really the one i loved most in my life, but was grounded for stupid reasons. my mother was so abusive, irrational jealous, alcoholic with low iq, and would pick fights, bait me and when I opened my "bigmouth" she would ground me. she smiled in spite about my not going. my mother is ironically one of the reasons i appreciate this band, their lyrics, their dark humor and irony so very much! i knew in my heart it would be the only concert, the only opportunity. i got to see morrissey in france in 1992, beautiful voice, but just not the same... they might have sounded like this... brilliant!
Morrisey is not of this planet...such an astonishingly original band. As long as there are sensitive teenagers, The Smiths will never go out of style.
I remember buying 'Hatful of Hollow' in London when it came out. The sound was so lush, it was like nothing I had ever heard before.
We must hold onto every ounce of our youth like Morrissey and his immaturity.
Ahh, bejazus, paddy, as des would say.
"Now I know how Joan of Arc felt/As the flames rose to her Roman nose and her Walkman started to melt"
the world was not ready for the smiths
patrick ...so true... .brilliant band!! 👍👍
the world just didn't need them
Erik ruiz, please go re-read what he wrote.
"patrick they were huge what do you mean" sounds like a Morrissey lyric.
The world won’t listen 😞
The Moz in his prime...the live vocal is as good as the recording
Or even better
The greatest band ever 😂😅
I was just thinking the same. Its amazing how his voice sounds just as good, and then he also nails every note. I guess he truely is one of the best frontmen since mick jagger.
Discovered this band 3 days ago, can't get enough of them.
LuxuryWhip Best band with a fresh sound.
I feel you. I've been listening to them on and on for weeks now!

The lyrical genius, the greatest band to walk the earth. Timeless!
No lies detected
fucking smiths man. one of the few bands i never got bored of
How I love his rolled 'r', his voice and his movements!!! 😍
Good to hear Vicar in a Tutu live. Really shows just how good a singer Morrissey can be.

There has never been any one before or after morrissey for such original, truthful or intelligent lyrics.

The “i am the living sign” is just amazing
I could listen all day, where did that voice go?
@@mutahmarriagecounselor2272 Morrissey got old, just like everyone does unfortunately!
@@Harry_84 just like everybody else does
I have a bad habit of dancing in elevators like Morrissey
I shall try that, as long as it isn't full of people :)

***** it's ok, you're in the right company here
Bad is relative.
cool

that rolling of the R at 0:15 tho
Moz nailed the outro of "Vicar" even better than on the album.
loving the rolled r's
I really like the way he performs. It brings a whole new dynamic to this awesome song!
I remember watching this when it aired. It was the week of The Queen Is Dead's release.

can't imagine life without them...
moz looking bloody gorgeous in this ☺☺
Wonderful stuff. But a massive Shout out to Craig Gannon. The Unofficial Smiths Member. We will always love U.
There is no better band in the entire world.

You're a living sign alright Moz!😂😍😉
This song is a masterpiece. Love the "Bigmouth, la da da daa!" in the chorus.
Really consistent singing by Morrissey here.

I remember this well. Was a great performance
What a beautiful human being, Morrissey is!
Those dance moves though lol gotta love Morrissey
Starting at the 4:53 mark; Morrissey signing with full abandon and The Smiths firing on all cylinders. Wow.
goosebumps
One of the many reasons the 80's was so boss, like totally.
These are some of the songs I’d be down to listen to at any time
I said it then, I say it now. Marr is the bloody definition of cool.
Amzing performance

this tv moment was a classic for all the clued in peoples of the UK , !!
One of the best looking Smiths clips I've seen. Love IT!
The “I am a living sign” part is so powerful from Moz and the band, I’m in tears.
By far my favorite Smiths song.
Back when singers had actual talent. Let alone, this whole band is talented! I hope they reunite soon!
Franciosi & Friends Productions I don’t see it happening :( If only it would
I only care if Andy, Marr and Morrissey do
The singer is fucking shite now though
Utch Punk Yeah they will never be The Smiths ever again...
Sweetness.
I have not seen this one with vicar in a tutu
excellent stuff.
Thanks for sharing.
That bassline! Andy Rourke rocks! Epic!
Que música linda! E você então! Que saudades! .
Amazing performance...thanks for posting.
Thanks so much for posting this. Johnny Marr's looking like unbelievable cool as usual.
What a great way to start the day! You are indeed a living sign mozz!
great performance, never new until now how good the drums are in this song,
SAUDADES ... PARA MIM A MELHOR BANDA !!! DE TODOS OS TEMPOS ...
I love Morrissey singing "I am a living sign" with beautiful voice and smile.
Love this song, best 80s band ever
Quel groupe ! quel leader ! Quels musiciens ! Quelle alchimie ! ça n'a pas pris une seule ride. Intemporel.
haha- Moz looks soo cute here, love his dress sense- always soo stylish and
They always say he doesn’t allow cameras!! I always bring one!!!
Ah, that style. I feel sad for not living in that era :(
I miss it every day!
Yes. The 80's were great. Being 17 in 1984 was such luck which I now really appreciate. Even rap was good then.
I wish I could have seen them live but it would hit me hard to be so into the band and then they break up. In some ways it’s been better being born later and getting the full catalog without being attached in the moment.
Iconic artists of a generation. On par with the greats of rock 'n roll.
Forget Wham, the Smiths were the best band of the 80s. Pure legend. They should do a reunion like all these other 80s group seem to be doing lately.
Absolutely love Morriseys voice. ♡ the smiths
Fantastic -so cool -will always love them. Go Johnny go!
Perfection I never tire of!
I love his sarcastic 'hahaha's at 2:48
Johnny Marr's opening guitar riff is the chorus of guitarist John McGeoch on Spellbound by Siouxsie and the Banshees
carl jules not really, havnt listened to spellbound in some time now but as I recall, it was similar, in the sense that they were both fast and in a similar key, but they're not the same, I may be wrong though

Well I think that the high pith voice gives the song even more character! I love it
Damn I need to listen to the Smiths again... it's been a while.
