I hate that so many public resources go to addicts and not to elderly and disabled people living in poverty. Not just the money but the cost to local businesses and families who can’t use sidewalks safely. These people don't want help because they can't do drugs at shelters. In other countries family members can have them forced by the police to go into rehab as many times as it takes.
This problem took a while to grow worse and naturally it is going to take a while to end it completely. At least things are moving in the right direction. A major challenge in this process is that SD rent keeps increasing to unrealistic, ridiculous heights. Something needs to be done about that also.

I Retired in March and will live out the rest of my life in beautiful Alpine with my gorgeous Wife in a charming home.. I didn't give up on myself... I knew when I was homeless that there was a better life for me only if I earned it. Most homeless people don't want to contribute to Society.. they expect Society to fix problems that they created.

Lower the property taxes since it is the largest portion of rent the landlord must pay the government. Then the insurance company, then the maintenance cost. These are the components of how rent is calculated.

Well, most of them are on the needle. No constitutional rights would be violated arresting them on drug charges and giving them a choice: rehab/work farm or prison. Now those things aren't cheap, but they can't possibly cost more than we are throwing at the problem currently.

The homeless did not go away, they just moved to different blocks. SF isn’t the only city that does this when there’s a big event. San Diego does this with Comic Con every year. Los Angeles did this when they hosted the Super Bowl and Seattle did this when they hosted the MLB all star game this past season.

Well I was homeless for 10 years before I got a hotel voucher and thsn my own apartment now it's been 4 years and the place k was living treated me like crap and wanted me out saying I was homeless gutter trash and belonged on the street I showed the summons for court to my hud worker and she told me to put in a 30 day notice and find another apartment not worried about where I was to stay or where I was going th o put my belongings just about when I was out of the apartment now I'm on the street in a tent I proved the eviction notice was full of forged documents and falsified paper work even my signature had been forged but did they do anything no now I'm on the street in a tent again it's winter and even harder to find an apartment when I have to haul my things with me by the way I had to throw sway anything I couldn't carry having a bad back and infected leg at the time plus my small dog it's not easy when I don't qualify for anything the apartments want I did everything right but in th e end I'm homeless again
I got off the street just to have them put me back on it because the turd of an old hotel got painted to lookalike a rose construction was done half asked and the rent was over priced there slum lords trying to fool every one no me I knew too much about what they were doing no insulation in the ceiling showers were just the shell and they begged me not to contact SDGE for anything wonder why ? And I was so proud of my self to finally have my own place for onxe in my life things got better no it's 10x worse I've lost everything I cry my self to sleep in my cold tent in the rain I almost froze but do they care no my worker for HUD stopped contacting me as soon as I was out of the apartment I feel like she okie doked me telling me i would lose my voucher if I didn't move out
The police shut down many homeless camps. Things are not perfect but much better, I can use the sidewalk again. The police are doing a good job under pressure. 🚔👏👍😎
