I’m a Coronado resident. I don’t understand these folks all of a sudden being “…furious and angry…” (are those two different emotions?). Everyone in Coronado is upset and concerned, but it’s not as though this is a new issue either this year or just now at Memorial Day weekend. For years and with particular emphasis in recent months, Mayor Bailey of Coronado, Mayor Aguirre of Imperial Beach and US Rep. Scott Peters and many others have been working with the powers in Washington as well as all the relevant stakeholders in Mexico to hammer out the solution currently being implemented. Published reports have indicated the steps being taken will reduce the pollutants in the water by 80% in 2024 with temporary measures. Further reductions will occur in the ensuing years as more sophisticated, permanent changes are made to the processing facility in Mexico ultimately removing the pollutants by 2027. The US is not financing this entire project. The Mexican federal and local governments are also committing many millions of dollars on their end. Since the problem affects people, wildlife and the economic interests of both countries, it is appropriate for both countries to contribute to the solution and that’s what been ironed out. Allowing this to continue is NOT an option. This issue has been extensively discussed at City Council meetings, articles and opinion pieces in the Eagle-Journal and Coronado Times. A new newspaper was recently started in town, The Coronado News, in direct response to the ongoing problem. The solution part of the story was rather hastily glossed over by Channel 8 in this news item. It left the impression nothing much was being done to bring about a solution and that locals are just awakening to this problem. Those yellow sign have been up nearly every day since the storms in January and February. Rather lax reporting by Channel 8.

every time TJ spills sewage, simply close the border for longer each time until their politicians/government get their waste systems fixed. Their loss of revenue will quickly result in them taking actions.
Why are we using our tax money to fix a problem in Mexico? I thought Mexico didn't want the US interfering in their country according to AMLO. Oh, wait..that just applies to the Cartel that pays AMLO and all politicians and police to leave them alone. Sending money to fix their infrastructure is 👌
I think the reality of the matter is that they can't buy a septic tank, and they don't want their caca and dump it in the river. Well, the Mexican government has no interest in the peasant people who have no money, and if they do have jobs, then their boss pays them $7 a day for full time work. If people in Mexico would stop bullying each other in this fashion, then they could take care of their own caca instead of dumping it where it can threaten the United States of America.
It’s true that for many years the Coronado beach would be forced to close for a couple of days a couple of times a year. The current situation is that on steroids. It stems from the double whammy of the updated and upgraded equipment being used to more accurately measure harmful pollutants in the water and, the winter storms causing a break in a sewage line near the border allowing a constant flow of raw sewage. These have turned an occasional annoyance to a serious health and economic problem.
@@robertcampbell8027 In the early 90's I remember the posted warning signs and closures. I totally understand the upgraded testing equipment in addition to the Increase in people's waste. USA needs to sanction Mexico until they get these problem's controlled.

Some people in Mexico who have money have a septic tank and don't see why they should have to clean up caca that isn't theirs, but the peasants in Mexico work full time for $7 a day and cannot dispose of their caca properly, so their solution is to dump it in the river.
