Steve Knight talked with Tony Owens, Hatchery Manager at Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, about the process of spawning the Florida Large Mouth Bass.
Hi, fish nerd and pet store worker here. I sell baby peacock bass but essentially anywhere between 60 something to high 70s will work. Essentially room temperature is perfect for largemouths. If you’re comfy, they’re comfy.
Also, the warmer the water, the quicker they grow. I personally would match the water temperature local to you and raise the fry at that temperature so their bodies can adapt to it!
@Dontae James so not liking to watch animals suffer is weak? Calling me weak? I watch animal and human surgery irl a lot but I can’t with animals suffering and dying. I would rather be a snowflake ❄️ than a bloody sadist
God bless Texas. Can't wait to move there.
That is really cool.
Please tell me what the temperature of water?
Other than size is there a method you use for determining male vs female?
Age and shape of lower jaw
The females have darker fins and the most accurate fin is the anal fin, if its a female it will have a noticeably darker fin than the males
I am trying to make hybrid yellow perch bass with a catfish
Update lol
You’ll have to move to Alabama so that they fuck anything that moves
How’s that going?
If I want to spawn the Big Mouth Bass what tank size would you recommend and what is the ideal water temp?
its large mouth bass but i recommend 75-1000

@Dontae James yes but is it really necessary to kill things when you just want to watch fish spawn?
