    I'm not quite sure I understand. How exactly can any Scythe be considered 'wise and compassionate' when their job is state sanctioned murder?
    Wouldn't a genuinely wise Scythe, or any regular person in this world really, ask why their nigh on all-powerful and all-knowing 'Thunder Head' hasn't implemented any form of austerity measure for who can be allowed to breed? Like, having everyone be on a form of birth-control as a standard practice (through their nanites for instance) and then only let those who had been judged by The Computer to be the most fit parents be allowed to become fertile and then be allowed to have and rear children?

    • @cloudytearz4365
      @cloudytearz4365 5 лет назад +1

      The good scythes don’t enjoy their job. They feel horrible about it, but it’s their job. They are wise and compassionate with the murdering. Have you read the book?

    • @alexanders4293
      @alexanders4293 5 лет назад +1

      Miraculously, if you actually read the book, you just might find out.

      @@emmaemmaemma8925 But that's just it. I have read the books. And my question over why the thunder head doesn't control the immortal population through new births rather than controlling the population through deaths (it itself created the Scythedom, as you well noted), is to point out how evil it and the author is. The people in the world of the book series gave given up not only the external power of self-governance to the thunder head, something which wars have been fought for in the real world in order for a populace to have it for themselves, but also the internal power of self-governance as we see even in as early as the first book where everyone, even if they don't have a hormonal imbalance, aren't even allowed to fully feel their own emotions and, instead, are kept from feeling *any* particularly strong negative emotion at all from nanite control. True one may go out of their way to turn it off, but that's also the point, it is not default to have your emotional limiting nanites be turned off, and is even considered a little taboo to turn them off. The thunder head controls all of this in every individuals life, but, the idea of it being able to say who will be allowed to conceive, not banning sex, merely preventing procreation, is somehow beyond the pale, but creating a whole job of murdering the populace is good? In later books we find that the thunder head literally has buildings set aside for malcontents, because it recognizes that there will always be some level of malcontents no matter how much peace and prosperity there is, which means it knows there are some humans that are better for society than others, to say nothing of how some parents are simply better than others (like not caring if your 36th child lives or dies since you've already raise a couple dozen already).
      This is all to say that it is a huge inconsistency with the internal story structure of the world as a whole that, knowing how much control thunder head has over everyone's life, and how happy they are to give it that control, that none of them wouldn't accept something as small as birth control.

    It's a bit arrogant to ask "do you really think?" when the author says which house a character he created belongs in.
