actually, being ignored has helped me overcome some aspects of social anxiety. i think most people who chose to play in public don't do so to impress or receive praise. and the moments of breaking through to the few people who appreciate and/or know the pieces you are playing is more rewarding than having the attention of, as emily dickinsons once put it, the whole "admiring bog"
