Such a great idea to “collaborate” in this way. They didn’t take away from her. “Our gang” blended with her perfectly. Interesting choice to not show themselves performing this. Without Whitney, it just wouldn’t seem right. It was probably done out of respect. It seems better this way. Of course, my favorite dancers were the kids. 🥰 Both sets did a great job. And, no, I didn’t notice that you weren’t talking. I was mesmerized as well.
We also pronounce it "Hyuston", just like the city in Texas which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from where I live (and where I spent a lot of time in my younger years). When I first heard this, I did a little research on how it all came together. Whitney recorded the song in 1987, early in her career, for a various artists Christmas compilation. She never released it on any of her own albums, so it was not that well-known. PTX got the rights to the recording and removed the instrumental track and backing vocals and added their tracks. This is one of the few PTX recordings to include vocal overdubs to give it more of a choral sound.
When I got this "assignment" I first listened to Whitney with PTX, then out of curiosity I listened to Whitney’s 1987 recording of the song with instruments and backup vocals (thanks Larry for the information in your comment). I definitely prefer the Pentatonix version. Were Pentatonix featured enough vocally in this recording? My answer: PTX served as backup singers (and they did an amazing job!). I think Pentatonix got it right. 💖

He sang a song like 15 years back called, "Home", it was so, so , so good. From Louisiana, sings the blues/jazz like. Has that raspy blues voice. Add him to your list. I'd love for you to see "Home". Ya know how HF did Man of constant sorrow, that sound? Like that, but faster, better, the best New Orleans kinda music that'll grab your attention. Great reaction. PTX’s goal for every song is to have the best song at the end. They don’t want to work with great performers like Lindsey Stirling and Dolly Parton ( and Whitneye’s voice) to have them be backup singers. Since Whitney is gone the vocals with the dancers was lovely. PTX did amazing and I can hear their vocal contributions. I am happy this is a song that honors Whitney and the end result is something you could have on a Christmas playlist on repeat. Amazing. ❤

Whitney had such an amazing gift fro God! Christmas has always been difficult for me due to family who can’t get past their differences and enjoy each other. I finally walked away and have the most beautiful Christmases with my own family. Sadly Christmas will never be the same again for me. No, but did they make the best backup singers ever? Yes. I can sorta understand why it was done this way, her legacy needed to be up front and center. What baffles me, is the visuals of the video. The dancing is fine (and beautiful), but the ornaments and gifts take away from the meaning and lyrics of the song. Mind you, Home Free sung their version in ice caves, but it worked. (visually) The lights reflecting behind them, on the ice, it didn't take away the lyrics of the song. (If you are never going to react to it, go watch it. Is a must see.) (That's all me, though, through my eyes)
If you're swooning over Whitney, check out Vanessa Williams' Star Bright album. In my opinion, her talent has been vastly overshadowed by artists like Whitney.

Wow!! I never knew anyone could hack this song up so bad, destroyed it would be more accurate. Only one person can sing this song and that's Bing Crosby. That was trash.
@@marylynne9104 yes, they had all instrumental tracks removed. They also did this with Bing Crosby’s White Christmas. His original instruments where removed and replaced with an orchestra, with PTX’s voices layered in. It is quite beautiful. It debuted last year by Bings family. This year they where allowed to add it to their newest Christmas album. Regardless, instruments or not, they are extremely talented and have beautiful voices.

Whitney had such an amazing gift fro God! Christmas has always been difficult for me due to family who can’t get past their differences and enjoy each other. I finally walked away and have the most beautiful Christmases with my own family. Sadly Christmas will never be the same again for me. My husband is facing lung cancer and we are running around to medical appointments. Sigh...

It is 12:30 am here and I am in total distraction mode. Went to the Doc today, thought trivial, not so trivial, he decided to take care of it in office, turned into an entire thang (thing) but all is okay. It just hurts. I cannot sleep. 1 more hour until more ibuprofen, perhaps that will help enough to sleep? (long story short)

We always pronounce Whitney’s surname like the US city here in Ireland. Can’t say I’ve ever heard it pronounced any other way to be honest.

No, but did they make the best backup singers ever? Yes. I can sorta understand why it was done this way, her legacy needed to be up front and center.
What baffles me, is the visuals of the video. The dancing is fine (and beautiful), but the ornaments and gifts take away from the meaning and lyrics of the song.
Mind you, Home Free sung their version in ice caves, but it worked. (visually) The lights reflecting behind them, on the ice, it didn't take away the lyrics of the song. (If you are never going to react to it, go watch it. Is a must see.)

It is not a cappella to sing with a recording. That's really not live. She's dead.
Technically, it is a cappella if no musical instruments are used, regardless of one of those voices having been pre-recorded.

@@marylynne9104 yes, they had all instrumental tracks removed. They also did this with Bing Crosby’s White Christmas. His original instruments where removed and replaced with an orchestra, with PTX’s voices layered in. It is quite beautiful. It debuted last year by Bings family. This year they where allowed to add it to their newest Christmas album. Regardless, instruments or not, they are extremely talented and have beautiful voices.
