Hi Barry! So glad to see you working through the Evolution videos in order! I think it really shows clearly how they have grown over the course of their careers so far. For me the difference between MJ and Ariana Grande is huge- the transitions run into each other instead of stopping and restarting, which helps it blend amazingly!

All of their stuff is fantastic. I would love to see your reaction to Imagine, Light in the Hallway (an original) Aha in Singapore, Gold, and literally ALL their stuff you cannot go wrong. I watched them in 2011 on the show The Sing Off and knew if they stayed together they would be such a blessing for the world. Thank god they did and are!!! Angels!!! And they are the same live as I have seen them.

You definitely need to look into "Superfruit", Scott and Mitch doing songs on their own. More medleys (especially Beyonce!) and fun stuff like Hip Hop Goes Broadway 1+2.

Kirstin Maldonado, the band's lone female, sings wonderfully in Spanish. PTX's mashup of DESPACITO X SHAPE OF YOU is fantastic. Unfortunately, there is officially only an audio release. There are some fan recordings from live concerts, but the sound quality is poor. Since you seem to like Spanish, you may want to take a listen sometime.

Totally agree with you I also felt that Rihanna’s presence was evident. At first I wasn’t a fan of Pentatonix but persevered and found a version of Australian Singer Gotye’s Song, “Somebody that I used to Know”
and I was converted. They put a whole new spin on the song and I love it. Thanks for your input and reactions on their music. ❤️❤️🌹🌹🇦🇺

Their version of Gotye's song is just great from their young, young years. So well done and when they were so new together still!
Yes we all miss Avi in the mix, but Matt has really stepped in and become a seamless part of the group. I can't imagine trying to step into Avi's place.... For myself and many Pentaholics, the first time Matt was a part of the group and not just a stand in, was in their cover of Sound of Silence... After that, there was no doubt, that Matt was a member of the group and not just filling in for Avi, but bringing his own talents to the whole.
I’ve only reacted to a few songs so far and Avi really stood out. I’m happy that I have lots more of his videos and audio recordings to react to (including his solo work) but I’m equally as excited to discover all that Matt has to offer. I love the original “sound of silence” so I’m really looking forward to their version. I hope you’ll join me on my PTX journey. Thanks a million Arcusfp1 👍

His name is matt. One of their amazing songs with matt is “new rules x are you that somebody”. No joke... it is phenomenal... he destroys the bass line in that one. Well he destroys the bass in all of them but that one has a heavy distinct bass.

Yeah, I miss Avi too, but he's done some amazing solo stuff, which is well worth checking out ('Change On The Rise' and 'I'll Get By' are some good ones to start with.) If you want to fall in love with the new guy, Matt, I can recommend their cover of 'You're A Mean One, Mr Grinch' - he sings lead vocals on that, and he totally OWNS it.
Other great Pentatonix ones to listen to: 'Mary Did You Know?' (Kevin, the beatboxer, gets a solo singing bit in that,) 'Can't Hold Us,' 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight?' and 'When The Party's Over.' And of their original songs: 'Love Again,' 'Standing By,' their latest one 'Happy Now,' 'Natural Disaster,' and 'Run To You.'

Hi Barry, I am with you in this cause I'm not a fan of Rihanna either. But amazing ability of PTX. They make it looks so easy and it is so hard just keeping the right pitch when you're singing a capella and with all those changes, it is stunning. But not my favourite songs unfortunately. We all miss Avi but wants him to be happy. Matt is a good replacement and some of their newer stuff really shows that. I love their version of Blinding Lights. Can't wait for Christmas so you can go all in on their massive compilations of great christmas songs. Oh and isn't it time for you to do Qairan Elim by Dimash now?Love from 🇸🇪!

So this video is your introduction to Matt. He was hand picked by Avi to take over bass. They’re different but Matt brings his own sound.
Avi really stood out on my first few reactions and I have so much more of him to discover (including his solo work) but Matt has a lovely tone and I’m really excited to hear more of him as I jump head first down into the PTX rabbit hole. I also missed Avi, untill I saw his solo career. He is brilliant and now he gets to make all his creativity desires. "Change on the rise" is a great song of his, so visceral! He has calmer ones, lots of songs about living with anxiety, I just love his solo career so much! He even looks hotter!
I think you are losing a bit on the Pentatonix experience in only watching their evolution videos. Watch Bohemian Rhapsody, it will blow your mind, or their Daft Punk Medley, that they recorded in a closet for 400 dollars and got and got a Grammy for, or the dance of the sugar plum fairy, where they sing classic music and won another Grammy.
They have so many great songs I wouldn't even remember those evolutions you are reacting to.

In the beginning of their career, the trio often sang with their hands...meaning they used hand gestures to keep track of their part in thos complex arrangements. But you can see in this video you can see that they dont need to use their hands anymore. (Except Scott, guy cant keep his hands still)

Given how much you enjoy Scott’s rasp, I highly recommend your next two related reactions be for Pentatonix covering “Shallow” and Superfruit (Scott & Mitch) covering “Rise” ... two of my favorite showcases for Scott (though there are so many more).
I’ve added your great suggestions to my list and I WILL react to them. I do like all of Scott’s vocal techniques but the rasp-a-roo sounds fantastic!

I saw that other commenters have already recommended Superfruit, and yes Hip Hop Goes Broadway is hilarious! But my all-time favourite medley so far (with members of PTX) is Superfruit's "Empire Medley". I didn't recognize any of the songs, but it is stunningly beautiful and emotional. I can't wait to see more from you!

I have always been impressed by the arrangements, yes the voices are killer, but who is doing all the arrangements especially the evolutions? I do believe they work collaboratively which tells you how they are musical geniuses.

I’m so pleased to hear that. I think I get less views than other channels because my videos are too long and people only watch the reaction part. Avi left in 2017. The pace of arranging-rehearsing-recording-touring is brutal, and Avi’s mom was ill. He left amicably, and helped find Matt as his replacement! To get a feel for Matt’s talent, review PTX’s most recent cover, “Mad World” (by Tears for Tears and Gary Jules)-Matt has a duet with Mitch that’s stunning!! Pentaholics call that matchup “Match”!

Hi Claudia, I understand if you didn’t get much of an emotional reaction. This video is a fun mix of songs. I did feel a lot of warmth and emotion in their version of hallelujah and they have other songs that I expect could be similar. As a HUGE ABBA fan I love all kinds of music because they performed music styles from all around the word (most people think of them as a disco act)
As a performer and songwriter I can really appreciate the quality of these PTX medleys (as you mentioned).

It's me Barry How could I leave you 😁 the eyes, the eyes ... 😄 Joke aside, I can understand everybody who likes their music, as I said the voices are great and their technical abilities are nearly unique. Their songs are really a capella masterpieces. I’m into many music styles, too, from classical music to hard rock, but, as I said, I have to feel something. I am an empath, I can feel the feelings the artist brings into the performance, like pain, hope, love, sorrow.... or at least energy. And sometimes there are no feelings brought into the song. I don’t only listen to music, I feel it with my whole body. Without these emotions it won’t work for me. Maybe a little hard to explain. You experienced it a little when you first watched Dimash. It hit you directly after a few notes. And like this it’s for me very often. Not only with Di, but with many other artists. Last weekend I mainly listened to Linkin Park. Chester singing like an angel and screaming like a demon 😁 I felt his pain. Felt it with every cell of my body. That’s how it has to be for me. Can be Bach, Beethoven, Depeche Mode, Mahalia Jackson, Johnny Cash, Queen, Metallica, Rammstein, Dimash. Or my absolute favourites Twenty One Pilots. The music style is not so Important. The feelings I have, are. Here I felt brilliant technical abilities. Nothing else. And nothing to worry, I’m still on your bus, just not with PTX.
Perah HARDING I can understand you, and the song by Gotye is one I love. I will check the PTX version out. My point is when I first listen to music it’s not much about thinking. Feeling comes first. Thinking can come later, when I study the lyrics for example. But if the first feeling isn’t there the rest will not follow. It’s really hard to explain. There can be so many different feelings be involved. And this is different for each person even while listening to the same song 😊 It may be even different with songs from the same artist. For some artists it may be only one or two songs. For others, like TOP, it’s every single song, in a different way. This is quite rare. But now, I’m off to check the Gotye cover :-)

I know everyone loves Matt, but I really miss Avi. I love his solo work, and I'm glad he's happy, but... yeah, for me, it's like someone is missing. I think you should explore their channel some more, so you can hear Mitch's range. He has one of the most beautiful voices on the fucking planet.
Avi left the group for his family. Too much traveling.
Family is the perfect reason to leave and shows us what a good hearted man he is. I’m sad that he had to go but at least he gave us lots of wonderful music to enjoy and is now giving us even more with his solo work.
