    Current footage looks like it was shot with the same equipment that shot the Baker Bowl! Can’t hear a lot of the commentary with the music playing. Who thought that this was a good idea???

    The Spectrum was not in Rocky. The ice rink and fight scenes were in filmed in Los Angelos. The rest of the movie was filmed in the Kensington section with a few shots of South Philly like the docks scenes and Pat's steaks. And no mention of the civic center, Franklin Field and th PALESTRA? The holy grail of college basketball? Post Millenials 🤯😅

    The spectrum was just mentioned in the movie Rocky. they filmed the fight scenes in Los Angeles at the sports arena next to the L.A Coliseum! The sports arena got knocked down a couple of years ago and now has a soccer stadium there now! I grew up in philly but moved to L.A in 1987 as a teenager! Philly always will be home but I am glad my adult life is in L.A.!

      The Vet will always hold a place in my heart. My late father took me there to my first Philies games in the 70's. I'm sure I'm not the only one with the same story.

    The Arena housed the Warriors, before they moved to Convention Hall. Also, Shibe Park was renamed Connie Mack Stadium in 1953, before the A's left town at the end of the 1954 season. The narration makes it seem as though the Phillie renamed the park after the A's left. Not so.

    • @kellybetz1964

      The Warriors left Philadelphia before the Spectrum opened.

    It doesn't seem like Municipal Stadium was ever used on a regular basis by any team.
    I remember the early 60's and it was already in disuse by then.
    I'm pretty sure the Eagles were using Franklin Field in the 40's and 50's
    but I could be wrong about this.

    Why show Connie Mack's demolition when discussing Columbia Park? Narrator sounds like he is talking while eating a sandwich in the next room.

    A-blast-from-your-past = Hooked on Phonics is needed very badly! I am born and raised in South Philadelphia, been to all the sports events, and obviously lived through all their incarnations. So, what do you want a lolipop? A medal of honor? And blame the sports teams for leasing out the facilities to the banking institutions, Septa renamed the Broad Street Subway station at Oregon Avenue, the A,T&T station, so, suck it up!

      I just remembered that the Armory is nearby the previously mentioned locations and has often been used as a concert venue for Electric Factory Concerts. I suggest packing it with explosives and lighting a match-just like at the sports complex@ 6 south broad street and pattison...KA-BOOM!

    You posted the picture of JFK (Municipal Stadium) with a baseball diamond wedged in. You can also find this photo at the music tribute to Dick Allen from Brazil (Echo's of November- Ana Volans- Brazil). Do you know when they attempted baseball there?

    • @MontgomeryMall
      @MontgomeryMall 3 года назад

      Yes, it was used for baseball in 1926 as part of the Sesquicentennial Fair that was held in Philadelphia that summer. The game was between a team from the US Navy versus one from the Marine Corps. It was also used for games of the American Legion World Series between teams from Pocatello, Idaho and Yonkers, New York in 1926. Neither the Athletics nor the Phillies ever played a game at Municipal (JFK) stadium.

      CoreStates, F.U. Center, Wachovia, Wells Fargo- I mean who really cares?! All corporate names that will never jibe with nostalgia nor the sports that go on in the arenas that bear their names.

    I've been to many stadiums across the country, starting in my childhood in the early '60s. The Vet was the WORST I've ever been in, because of the 700 level. Too damn far from the action. No other multi-purpose stadium of that era had that level. Pure greed IMO.
