Waiting for CEX to get realistic on their pricing or it dropping into HMVs 2 for £30 deal. You must get Alien in 4k if you don’t have it already as it’s excellent
I got Aliens on 4k when it first came out this year and thought it looked stunning to me with great detail and textures in the film so don't know why people are complaining so much about it. I loved it. I like the box you had made to put the 4k in lovely artwork on that really nice.
Hi Matt, My copy came yesterday, like you i waited for a little discount before picking it up, Glad you enjoyed it and i am looking forward to watching my one, probably get hated for this but i think James Cameron has been put on the same list as Disney and Star Wars, everything they do is hated now. Thanks for the video.
All this talk of AI messing with it. Personally I loved revisiting it in 4k whatever they did it looked great and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Price has gone down on this at present so can see it being in the 2 for £30 soon
@@MattVs_Movies I’m determined to get it on a 2 for £30 with True Lies. I’m testing myself to see if I can hold out 😂 I don’t think it’s necessarily AI. Maybe AI assisted but Cameron is a bit of a control freak so I’ve no doubt he went through everything and decided how HE wanted it to look.
@@MattVs_Moviesabyss is great. True lies awful. Aliens is to good. If it was someone’s first watch I’d show the Blu-ray. The films works better darker so you can’t see everything. This version is a nice addition to sit alongside the Blu-ray
I am glad you enjoyed it Matt, however I disagree somewhat with your assessment of the video quality of this film. The reason you haven’t seen many of these details before is because they didn’t exist in the first place. The problem with this release is that it’s just an older master with a ton of digital processing and AI algorithms to make it look like a modern shot movie. I got into 4K to get a presentation closer to the original film as possible, not revisionist whims such as this release is. These films should be preserved as originally shot, not tinkered with destructively. James Cameron now has at least the top 3 worst 4K transfers to exist. True Lies at number 1, Aliens at number 2 and T2 at number 3.
@@MattVs_Movies Thing is it’s sets a dangerous precedent for others to follow suit. Plus t’s not just his film - it’s all of the cast, crew and technicians that made it what it was in the first place, with the format of film and the technical restraints of the time. Cameron used to be all about Theatrical preservation, but seems to have swung the other way now, trying to make his (and others) legacy of work look like something it’s not.
@@dr.impossibleofcounterpunc1984 I dread to think! Not long before we find out. With any luck Cameron and Park Road will have e take some notice of the criticism and consider the negative responses rather than just coming back with schoolboy reactions such as his recent comment “leaving Mom and Dads basement”
@RetroReels I've already heard a few things about the new version. I doubt Cameron will even include the original Mono audio. My beloved The French Connection that was re-issued on Region A in the States had the option of both with the original Mono track committed to The Signature Series release put out by Fox. Cameron is very much the "poster child" for leading the charge of A.I. revisionism. I doubt Spielberg will touch any of his films with this crap. But I would imagine when Spielberg pops his clogs, studios will probably go in with a touch-up.
Hi Matt, cool that you loved the transfer on this release, I know some people are complaining about the use of A.I but sounds like that wasn’t an issue for you at all 👌 nice one mate, take care 👍😃👍
I was just amazed at details I hadn't seen before a very different experience But I still have the blu ray so all good. I suggest people who don't want to see detail are best just sticking to the blu ray then everyone is a winner 👍 Cheers 😎
Hi Matt thats what I thought as well, I thought it looked great I never noticed details before on any other transfer like the ripleys shoe brand. I did also notice hicks unfitting uniform as was made for the actor from the warriors that got fired early in production
Aliens 4K just doesn't look like Aliens when I saw the film at the cinema in 1986. This does not look like film. Neither does it look like a film, filmed with digital cameras. But it is some weird in-between digitised amalgamation of stunning clarity and rubber. That might sound odd, but it's not. The clarity is the issue for me. There's just too much clarity that destroys the more earthy and darker nature of the photography palette. This destroy's the films original intent. Suddenly, you lose detail, faces become smooth, clothing loses its edge, and all that ‘dirtying up’ becomes just a tad too clean. Adrian Biddle shot the film on 35mm. The lighting in certain scenes was mean't to be ominously dark and have suttle shadows within the frame. With this 4K hybrid version of Aliens, you have an ultra clean, synthetic look that produces a highly unnatural look. The colour temp has had a slight makeover as well. Instead of the steely blues, it is now greener/teal in nature and quite obvious in places. This goes against the late cinematographers wishes. This is a very clear example of revisionist cinema. For me, this is unacceptable. To others, it's perfectly acceptable without a thought.
Seems to be dividing opinion this one. I guess the Blu ray is probably the best way to view it for you. Personally I'm happy with what I saw on 4k I guess it's all individual preferences I guess Cameron feels this is the way he wants the film to be watched now. It certainly still felt film like to me watching it on the projector. Sound was pretty immersive as well
@MattVs_Movies Good job Adrian Biddle isn't here to see it. This technology betrays the original intention of the cinematographer. You might as well ignore the rules of lighting. But there we go....
👍👍👍

I’ve got it on digital (iTunes) but WILL be picking up that physical regardless.

I guess as a director he can do what he wants a bit like Lucas at least we have the blu ray as well 👍
@RetroReels Where will The Terminator sit, I wonder. Not far off number 1.
