Thank you so much Guys for a good and frank Podcast - always great to listen to you come what may with the results ! Lets not forget that we were promoted to the premier League via the play-offs so are ranked bottom this season if you look at the teams that are already in the premier league and then we were third best in coming up . Each game is tough and yes we are lacking at the moment, but lets be positive and hopefully acquire a couple of influential players in January , notably up top and maybe a wide person and midfielder ! Lets stay positive ! UTV

Keep going lads, it’s hard I know but we are all Villa till we die. At the moment no one knows what our best team is, and that includes staff and fans. Every week the team changes, some players have a decent game followed by an absolutely garbage one. I feel for Deano and I know he stands accountable as well, but unless every player rolls his sleeves up and shows fight, passion, desire and determination we are doomed. Yes there is still time for us to get out of this mess but only if what I’ve already said happens. Oh well boys try and have a great new year , and whatever happens by hook or by crook keep the Villa View going. Keep the faith. UTV 💜💙

IMO, whilst I think that Dean has been found out and we lack a plan b, I feel the biggest problem lies in the fact that the opposition want it more. They work harder and fight on where as villa especially just before and just after half time, seem to have no fight. Players need to start pulling their weight and hopefully Mings returns soon as ever since he got injured our defence has not been the same. Doesn’t help that their isn’t really a proper centre back partnership like we had with Engels and Mings. Need to do business in January, whether that’s loans or buying. I’m smith in, and hopefully a bit of good business and effort from the players will see us stay up! As ever UTV

Let's get behind the team and Dean Smith. Disappointed with the Dean Smith out comments on social media, he needs time to build this team. I don't think there's a quick fix, especially with FFP being so restrictive. Also Wesley gets way too much flack, he's only a £22m striker, we paid almost that for Bent years ago... We signed a lot of promising players with hope of developing them - they won't improve with fans on their back. UTV!

    • @sebblackmore3697
      @sebblackmore3697 4 года назад +1

Stuart Watterson Fully agree mate. After what the team managed last season, they deserve a full year with their plan. Wesley was involved in all 3 goals today(I'm including the goal that was ruled offside, even though the PL's best ref Michael Oliver didn't spot it, nor the linesman). I can't believe that VAR can accurately measure heels off the floor, or length of studs in that window of time when they are making a decision, after a goal. Shame Wes got what looks like a bad injury! It was a tough battle against Mee and Tarkovski for him, but he did well.
Having Mings back and changing the shape to 3 centre backs, with wing backs definitely have us a better defensive platform to build from. I thought Douglas Luiz was great also, doing a good box to box job! Nakamba and Trez also played their part, but need more match time.
It is always going to take time with a new squad. It took a while last season for it to blossom. Positive signs if we can become more versed in the 3-4-3/ 3-5-2.
Nyland will be in for some games now, which will be good to see! I think he was improving before his bad injury last season. Kalinic might even get some football in the F.A. Cup? Taylor was solid, with the added security of Hause+ Mings behind him. Good signs for me. We could just do with a loan replacement for McGinn and maybe a premier League quality attacker, if they are guaranteed to add goals or assists. Like a Giroud or Pedro.

Great podcast fellas. On the Luiz Vs Nakamba debate for me it has to be Luiz for the simple fact that if we are going to get back to “Smith Football” then he is by far the better footballer. In terms of transfers we need premier league experience. Need to raid Chelsea for Giroud and Drinkwater (former England and EPL winner). I like the sound of Mitrovic and I know it’s dreaming, but Rachica from the Bundesliga looks mint.

Every team we face the opposition want it more than us. The lack of effort from the players "jack aside" worries me more than Smith's tactics if I'm honest. I hope nothing has gone on behind the scenes because we just don't look like we are trying anywhere near hard enough at the moment.

We’ve gone from the general opinion being we’ve played well but not won, looking good and we’ll be alright, oh it was a tough run of games and we shouldn’t be too down for not winning, competing in games and not getting destroyed, all the way to now were nobody can predict the next positive result lol Wednesday is massive. although if we can replace wes if we can

There is a fundamental problem with the side right now......we don’t use the middle of the pitch at all. No matter who plays the holding midfield role when they get the ball it’s sideways or backwards......way too easy to shut a team down when you only have to defend 30-40% of your half no matter what the formation or who starts. It must be an instruction from smith not to lose the ball there, but we are anyway! Surely you have to get to a point where you have to stop being scared of conceding goals and start trying to create them!
There is still a long way to go this season, and there are teams who will be in the battle with us.....need to remember it’s Smiths first year up too so he also has an amazing chance to find the solution!

I 100% agree about our summer recruitment as Even though Wesley is now on 6 goals he’s not a target man he plays off a target man, i would of preferred Moralos over Wes.
For me there’s not room for both Luiz n Nakamba i would of rathered Phillips than both of them.
But the team are so heavily reliant on Mings, Jack n Mcginn the moment we lose one of these the overall style of play falls apart.
Today Mings was back and defensively we looked a lot better.
Positives i preferred playing 3 at the back we looked a lot better going forward and defensively
But now we have Wes and Heaton injured

    1. Villa need a goal scorer
    2. Villa need a holding player who can both keep a midfield at arms length to allow forward players to track back
    3. Villa midfielders need to track back quicker and give better defensive shape
    4. Smith needs to stop bullshitting fans about performances. I understand it is to protect the players but there is a fine line there between BS’ing supporters, having them turn on you and then getting sacked.
    4. Guilbert needs to play
    5. Jack needs to play centrally, even if that means as a forward playing right next to Wes.
    6. Villa fans need to stop moaning about Wes. He cannot control that he cost 22million. We have no alternatives.
    7. A few years ago, Napoli turned Dries Martens from a good hardworking technical winger into a goal scoring machine. Could Smith do the same with Hourihane or ElGhazi?

I’ve loved almost everything he’s brought to our football club but unfortunately it’s come to an end because Dean Smith can’t take us any further. He’s simply reached as far as he can go and he doesn’t appear to have a plan B which is another reason on why I think he should go. I wish him the very best in the future but it’s time for a change. It seems to me that the club took too big a risk signing too many players with little or no prem experience under the age of 24 for prices that were a 5th of the 50 million mark that pretty much guarantees quality in the hope that these signings would just about keep us up and then they could grow from there to be great players and we could compete with Wolves. But now it seems just like Southampton we're confirming are status as a feeder club who strengthen the rest of the league making it more difficult for ourselves to do well in the prem, if we go down which I think we're the most likely team to do so with their being no dross in the prem this season unfortunately when last season the whole bottom 4 were dross but I still think we have a 25% chance of staying up which will see the plan work and us be in at least the top ten in 2-3 years time but if we go down we'll lose a lot of our best players by Feb 2021 who will be closer to peak ages in their careers andhave more prem experienc. I suppose the club wanted to get the thrill from playing russian roulette with our prem status which shouldn't have been in doubt with building a team around our key players strengths with a 130 million pound budget, because they thought this way we're going will give us a 25/75 chance of survival and accelerate are possible progress into the top six by 3-15 years than a sensible steady approach. There is history of us being like Southampton over the past decade by giving players the harsh premier league learning curves from giving them there first prem season and other teams benefit by signing these players from us and instead of having them when there 20-25 have them in a players best years from 25-30 I mean here's a list of players whose best prem years were after they left villa just since 2008
Milner, Delph, Westwood, Lowton, Stevens, Robinson, Gueye, Clark, Ayew, Traore and I've probably missed a few on top of these.
And we will confirm our status from what it was as top 4 challengers ten years ago to a feeder club with more sales but if we stay up we will grow as we add small numbers of additions to our squad who can tell into the team quickly and as what we've got get into their peak ages get more and more vital prem experience and get more chemistry and coehision in the team from the same players playing more matches and having more pre seasons together.
But as usual the club has made us fans as nervous and worried as possible by producing a team right on the line of relegation in such a way that maximises the disastrous effects of relegation and the opportunity to build fast from survival.
But if it was up to me in hindsight I would have signed no more than 3 players who were 24 or under excluding all the re-signing of loan player signings of whom we needed to get back as many as possible and I would also have bought two strikers instead of putting all our hopes on one man, I still would have spent all the club's 130 million pound budget but more on quality than quantity and if I was Smith I would have focused more on getting a faster start to the season by playing the already cohesive, quality midfield of Conor, John and Jack who are also already in their best years than upset what was the best part of our team by a mile last season and as we can see in Sheffield playing an already established midfield helps a lot in any league.
But I'm keeping some faith in survival because I think Smith will finally see how badly wrong he's got some things and change it to give us a chance at survival if we work hard and every individual plays near their potential.

Tend to agree. I suspect Smith wanted players he knew (esp. from the Championship) but Pitarch kept proposing players from Belgium and abroad - and Pitarch is higher up the pecking order than Smith. Pitarch might know Valencia and the Spanish League but doesn't understand the Premier League. That's where I'd place the blame. Plus the big warning sign that they only wanted to buy young players with a resell value later on. In retrospect we'd have done better with fewer newcomers, more known players (Maupay), even if they were expensive, and more British players with experience of the Premier League (Heaton). I suspect the lot of them underestimated the size of the jump between Championship and Premiership.
Thanks again for the podcast, everyone. The honesty is hugely appreciated.

I’ve been saying this since November!! I’ve said nkamba Wesley and luiz is absolutely shit!!! What a waste of money. You look at dean smiths past ok. He’s been at Brentford and been weeling and dealing for all of his managerial career. 1 million here and 2 mill on there. He’s never had 130 million to spend. He was like a kid in a sweet shop, but a very shit sweet shop if that. I haven’t seen any player to come through and justify they price tag. All are pathetic and only Tom heaton is worth the money we spent. 22 mill on Wesley. He hasn’t even won a header from a cross. We haven’t scored a header all season. And with a 6.ft4 striker that poor. He’s not for us. We had a better team last season!! I’d take miles jedinak over nkamba and luiz put together. So all this. Dean smith spent 130 million and absolutely shit performances plus we in the relegation zone!!! You’re telling me that’s not sacking material?? He’s got to fucking go!!! The job is too big for him. Change it now or we will go down. Trust me. And I’ve been saying it for ages on fbook villa fan pages which I’ve been banned from for speaking the truth. Back then every villa fan was clearly deluded. But now I bet they thinking. ‘Oh shit’. Get smith out!!!! Before it’s too late. If we don’t win against Burnley dean smith has to go. You can’t protect him and say give him time. Because we haven’t got time lads. He needs to go!!

If Smith does get the sack and Sam Allardyce that would be awful, yes he has kept teams up in the P.L before but his tatics are dire, Benetez or Pochetittino would be my choice, we are a huge club with very rich owners, why shouldnt we go for the BEST?? The players we got in during the summer are not good enough apart from Heaton, and we are a one man team and our captain do it all alone, we have one of the BEST centre backs in Premier League history on our coaching staff, what on earth is he doing on the training pitch with the players?? I think we will stay up by the skin of our teeth BUT right now Villa are so poor.

Sorry fellers, I feel so down I can't even get past the first 6 minutes of this video. There are no valid excuses for Dean Smith at the moment. The team are playing like they've never even seen each other before, let alone played together before. You mentioned something about Smith's "passing style of football," Tom, but these players can't even pass to a team mate 5 yards away now! Confidence? They're getting paid 20, 30, 50, 60 thousand smackaroonies of confidence every week for Christ's sake. There is no excuse for this turgid football. They made Southampton, Watford and Norwich look far better teams than Liverpool against us. It's down to the coaches and the players and, unfortunately, the buck stops with the manager. He clearly hasn't got the know how to reel these players in and get them performing again. Are our new owners seriously going to sit back and watch a £140 million spend on (poor) players drift off into the sunset as we go back into the Championship? If they are then it will show that they've been talking absolute bollocks about rebuilding Aston Villa and they've only come along for the ride. Anyone who's ever watched even a couple of seasons of Premier League football can see a mile away that we have a manager way out of his depth in this league. We need change and we need it now; or wave goodbye to the Premier League for a few years at least. Thanks for everything Deano but it's time to go. UTV VTID

Can you both think it and don’t want to be saying it. But Smith is out of his depth and the squad lacks premiership quality. It’s over as far as the premier league is concerned. The team doesn’t believe in the message.

I just dont think our players are intelligent enough with their movement off the ball, yes players are there to receive the pass going forward ( half the time), but its not being played with the right intensity for the prem, with the thought of creating gaps.
