    Something that my dad uses to make transferring easier is using a satin pillowcase (empty, not filled with a pillow) to make sliding from chair-to-bed, for example, easier on him. This lessens the “drag” of trying to move his clothed body across a fabric bedsheet. 💫💫💫

    Thanks a bunch, Brian. I'm old but relatively a para newbie and your posts have been most helpful. I've had a couple of J2 gel cushions but think the Roho Hybrid would be better for my purposes. I found a Roho Nexus on a popular web site but haven't found the Hybrid yet. Hope they are still making and in my size. Thanks again, Brian. You make a real difference in real people's lives. That must be a great feeling! :-) Blessings!

    I have been T10 paraplegic since 1983. I've sat on numerous Roho Low Profiles and Supracor Slimlines. I prefer Supracor because it lasts forever, it doesn't puncture and leak, and its firmness helps me to sit up straighter. My current Supracor Slimline has lasted 6 years and is still usable.
    I haven't tried a Roho foam-air cell hybrid, such as the one you have. The firm foam under the thighs would help with posture but the air cells will leak after a while. How long does your Roho last before it deflates and dies?

    Thanks for the review I am in the process of choosing another cushion and this one really looks much more logical to use, because those transfers with the ROHO really makes to challenging because you sink down to your chair seat giving you 3 in less of push off transfers. Thanks

    I use a Jay Balance, which is also a hybrid like Elite. Couldn't be happier. Got it in 2018 and actually this year was first time I had a puncture which I solved with a patch and some liquid PVC/rubber. Well build and like you said, probably the best, the results from BodiTrak were better than honeycomb and gel. If I will get another, will probably be the same type.

    I like the stimulite had good success however it goes flat after abit, like 5 years. Tried ROHO & Jay Gel and got flats with both them. I have a custom RIDE cushion now which is perfect as my ITs are totally floating all weight is held up by back of butt side/hips and thighs. Very hard and light weight cushion makes it great for transfers. I cannot feel anything so that doesn’t bother me. Thanks as always for your videos. Well done!

      Tanhia Young Hi Tanhia, know this is an old post. I would meet with a physical therapist that does pressure mapping. They know what cushions work for your son according to how he distributes his pressure when sitting. This will help prevent future wounds.

    There is another Jay cushion I have that I've liked and will be getting what replaces it. I have the Jay Active which has a gel compartment you Velcro at the back. It has been replaced with the JX2 which I'm getting soon. I think the gel centers are easier to push back into place but I never really had to do that much. I just had trouble with the gel centers busting, but I think I was not careful enough about taking care of them. I'm hoping I get a much better experience. Several Roho cushions were suggested to me but I wanted to stick with what has worked so many years for me.

    HI Brian. I also use a Roho, though full size, and covered with a full sized cover. You mention issues with punctures. Have you explored a cover that might protect the air cells? +DonWW The 2 leaks I have experienced were not so much of the cells being punctured but seemed to likely be caused by wear and tear. The leaks developed in the crease at the base of the cell.

    I use a Roho and I've also used the Jay2. I like the Roho b/c I feel like the air chambers give me more pressure relief, but I like the Jay2 b/c it had the contour (plus I had side wedges for my adduction weakness). I was wondering if you have ever tried the Roho Contour Select? If so, do you think this would give me better control so that my legs don't splay out as much and the way there are different heights to the chambers it will give me that contour I am looking for? Thanks!

    Hello there, I have Cerebral Palsy and I use a honeycomb cushion. While I've not gotten sores from it, it does start to dig into my body after a little bit, and I find that after about 6 months of usage the cushion gets kinda squished and is less comfortable, my insurance is a pain, they avoid replacing anything like the plague. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on possibly a different type of cushion, especially if it's easier to clean, as I have issues with bladder leaks. Thank you so much for your time.

    I have spina bifida and i am not a fan of cushions. That gel cushion you showed the one thats heavy and you didnt like ive tried that one and i didn't like that one either, i thought it was to thick and it felt weird. i find that because of my spina bifida when i sit on a cushion unless it is a thin one i feel kinda like im being pushed forwards if that makes any sense. i tried explaining to the OT that cushions i feel don't make me sit right with my back and all they did was give me a lumbar thing which made things worse. so right now im sitting on nothing and hoping not to get a pressure sore. :-(

    Where does one go to get pressure mapped? I'm on my second chair now and this was never part of the process for me. Is it something that insurance covers or is it more of an optional part of fitting?

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  8 лет назад +3

      +Cheshire House Pressure mapping is usually done by physical medicine and rehab therapists. I have always been pressure mapped when trying a new chair or cushion and yes, it is covered by insurance. We have a "wheelchair clinic" at the Ohio State University and they have specialized therapists that focus on getting the best fit and efficiency out of your wheelchair.

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving  6 лет назад +1

      Yea, I can imagine that would be a problem in a dress. I've had to add support under my cushion to raise my legs enough to keep them together. As long as your under leg to foot plate is well proportioned your legs won't spread. You can always add foam pads under the cushion to raise it enough to solve this problem.
