Great video, will now stick my patients on 18”, 20”, and 22” wheelchairs to trial them. I measured my patient wrong width wise and actually got the width as 26 inches! Thank god a more experienced occupational therapist helped me out on that one

what level is the patient at ? if its light amounts you could use a pad if its more maybe a catheter depending on the setting, but it also depends on if they are incontinent because they dont know they need to go or if its because they cant get to a bathroom on their own either way improving patient independance with transfers is generally a good idea.

Insurance companies pay for the cheapest wheelchair. They save money on the chair, but end up paying for in medical bills.

I was in a nursing home and saw the damages to my fellow Veterans and the extra physical therapy they needed.
I also learned this my reading about the insurance companies and what they will pay for and how much.
I am looking for a wheelchair, and the one I like is outside what they will pay. But my health is more important to me.

@@williamhubschwerlin3096 I know the VA got a wheelchair when I had my stroke. I don’t know how much it cost probably under$2500 at the most. The one I have is good. My health got better and I I need a better wheelchair. I have to wait almost 2, maybe three years before the VA buy another. I’m kind of strapped for cash right now too so maybe get one on credit😂

Do you happen to know if they base what the insurance can give you off what you need ? Or is it more it’s whatever your insurance can pay for and you have to have that kind, hope I asked that right.
I have to get my first wheelchair unfortunately due to health issues getting worse
    I’m 25 years old
If I’m weak and I’m a really small guy ( very short and petite )and can’t push a bulky chair do they have options that are more lightweight too ?

Tyler, I've been a paraplegic for 45 years, and the best take away from this video is don't listen to these guys. You are young and need to talk to people who specialize in fitting and supplying wheelchairs for active users. Yes, there are very compact and lightweight chairs available. Look up TiLite and Quickie for U.S. made , and Kuschal and RGK from Europe. These are just a couple of many. Good luck bud.

These clowns label this video how to choose a wheelchair and then they’re sitting there in two transport wheelchairs those are not made for people in wheelchairs permanently those are made for pushing people around please don’t follow advice from these clowns

Truth spoken right there. They are the last people you want to take advice from on wheelchairs. 45 yrs lived experience.

Those aren't transport chairs. Look as the wheels.

@@rabbit_scribeThat just means that you can propell yourself but if you look at the armrests and footplates then you should se that those are not made for active full time wheelchair users, I would need to start to use a wheelchair part time by my 30s or earlier to to my disability and there is no way I would use either
